With the increase in pace of Yoga many progressive steps are being taken to ensure that yoga education and training are qualitatively up-graded.

Yoga Teacher Cadre – National Council of Teachers Education, under the Ministry of HRD, Government of India is formulating the courses of D.Ed, B.Ed and M.Ed in yoga, in efforts to create a cadre of Yoga teachers for schools. This cadre would enable the recruitment of good quality yoga teachers in these schools.

The certification of yoga instructors, yoga teachers, yoga masters and yoga therapists will be made by the Quality Council of India. Evaluations of certified yoga students, or students possessing some yogic knowledge, will be made using a minimum standard module which is currently under development. Students attending a certified yoga institute, a certifica-tion which is also under development, will have an advantage of getting certified.

For the purpose of yoga in higher education The University Grants Commission has set up a committee to promote yoga in central universities.

With these aforementioned efforts we hope to see that the quality of Yoga education improves. These plans have been established for the trainers/ teachers, inter-alia and those involved in imparting training. These stand-ards have not been set for ‘sādhaks’, or those who practice as sādhana, involved in the experiential paradigm.

Plans for the next International Day of Yoga celebration are under way, thanks to the work of the The International Day of Yoga committee. This year, we hope every state finds a way to celebrate.

The International Conference at Kaivalyadhama was successful, with par-ticipants from India and around the world. Given the feedback, our main effort to ensure high quality and effective interaction was achieved and will be improved for future conferences.

My heartfelt thanks to the families of Kaivalyadhama who helped us to make this possible.

Namaste !

Anushthan with Shri. Tiwariji

In the yogic tradition anushtan is the process of remaining in a particular condition. This year, Kaivalyadhama offered a selective spiritual training course, anusthan, for those practitioners looking to advance in the field of pranayama. Led by Shri O.P. Tiwari, one of the world’s leading authorities in pranayama and disciple of Swami Kuvalayanandaji, the course welcomed over thirty long time prac-titioners of pranayama from over a dozen different countries. As anusthan is more focused on yogic

In November, Shri O.P. Tiwari led an advanced course in pranayama for those practitioners look-ing to further their practice and knowledge in the field of pranayama. Two daily practice based sessions were led by Tiwariji, with daily question and answer sessions as well as discussions and chanting of Patanjali’s yoga sutras. The students also had the opportunity to attend daily lectures with various professors and doctors on pranayama related topics. Kriya practices and asana classes were also held everyday under the guidance of one of Kaivalyadhama’s most beloved teacher, Neeraj Singh.

Kaivalydhama’s biennial teacher training course (TTC) in pranayama was led by Shri O.P. Tiwari this past December. The TTC was mainly focused on practical teaching methods for developing teaching skills rather than deepening one’s self practice. Many students were long-term practitioners of pranayama

This December, teachers and students of Kaivalyadhama were given the opportunity to re-acquaint and hone their teaching skills as per the Kaivalaydhama lineage. Guided by Shri Sudhir Tiwari, the work-shop focused on specific technical teaching methods, which were based on traditional yoga texts and addressed the practices of asanas, pranayama, and kriyas. Interactive lectures and question/answer sessions made for vivid discussions on the importance of lineage, tradition, and the scientific veracity of yogic practices. Teachers and students were also given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills with practice teaching sessions twice a day.

“Kaivalyadhama Yoga institute, as one of the oldest institutes, has been dealing with yoga teachers since 1924. Especially in recent years a lot of certified yoga teachers from many lineages visited kdham and we noticed that although they may be well trained in yoga philosophy, physiology or asanas, very few of them actually know how to teach yoga. Hence we recognized the need to create an opportunity for teachers to hone their soft skills in teaching methodology.

Another aspect missing in many yoga training programs is emphasis on self development. There are a lot of certified teachers actively working in the field yet very few of them either have their own personal sadhana or even care about spiritual development. Since Kdham is known throughout India for its expertise in classi-cal yogic texts - we felt that we can make a meaning-ful contribution to yoga teachers by offering courses on self development of yogis according to information presented by ancient yogic texts.

This way Master Class was born with intention to assist teachers in practical ways to become better teachers by introducing course which teaches “Yogic Concepts in Traditional Texts”, “Yogic Anatomy” and "Teaching Methodology”.

The Yoga Instructors Course (YIC) is a reoccurring online teachers training program. Students receive 100 hours worth of theoretical training in yoga vis-a-vis an online lecture series. These online lecture series educate students on the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, the anatomy and physiology of yoga, other ancient yogic texts such as Hathapradipika, and information on meditation tech-niques. The practical portion of the training, whereby

bAAL MELA

A mega event organized by the students of KVN took place on December 18th, 2015 in the school prem-ises and was inaugurated by Shri Subodh Tiwari, Trustee and Nominee Chairman. Baal Mela is an initiative wherein a mainstream school of the city reaches out to welcome children from all walks of life and engage them in various games, activities, and food stalls. The main purpose of this event was to give exposure and opportunity to those children who do not have the privilege of space and resources as well as a chance to enjoy the joys of childhood. Parents were also invited for this event. A facility of coupons was provided to all visitors and invitees in order to let children use it as they want, either for game or for food. Over 500 attendees enjoyed the activities and food items of the mela.
