Dear Residents of the West Chicago Park District

The ARC Center is up and running strong, certainly the District hopes you have had the opportunity to stop and see the myriad of recreational choices available. A few areas of great interest are the Treehouse which is available for birthday parties, drop in activity, or childcare; Open Gyms have become extremely popular for all ages to enjoy; and the walking track is open every day to accommodate those needs during the great weather we enjoy!

The main area the District would like to emphasize to you during the New Year resolution plans is the fitness center and workout rooms. The ARC fitness center has over 1800 members and room for more. A bright, open environment features many cardio machines with TV monitors, an array of free weight and selectorized equipment, cross fit and personal training and large clean locker rooms. There truly is something for everyone.

Most of all the ARC Center is becoming the community center for West Chicago. Family and friends meet, recreate, socialize, hold parties and meetings and generally have a great time. We hope you find time this season to Discover the ARC!!

Senior Health & Fitness Day:Pickle Ball! What’s That?

Calling all Tennis, Ping-Pong, and Fitness Fanatics!!!! If you haven’t heard of or played Pickleball, you’re missing out on the biggest craze since the Hoola Hoop!

What is Pickleball and how is it played?

Pickleball is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special Pickle-ball® paddles, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abili-ties, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. It was created with one thing in mind: FUN! It is easy to learn and play whether you’re five, eighty-five or some-where in between.

Grab a few friends and head to the ARC Center and give Pickle-ball a try! Hoffman Estates Park District Pickle-ball Club will be on-hand to demonstrate and teach participants the game. The first 10 participants to register get a FREE Senior Health & Fitness Day T-shirt. Light refreshments will be available. (ML)
