Aurora Grain Facility
Muth Electr ic was
awarded the electrical contract
for the Brookings Regional Air-
port in Brookings, SD. The work
began in March 2014 and is ex-
pected to be completed in
Spring 2015. Muth Electric in-
stalled a new lighting system for
the airport. We built a new main
runway and modified an existing
runway, so all new lighting was
needed. This included runway,
taxiway and threshold lighting, REIL lights and PAPI lights.
The airport vault building was demolished and rewired. Muth
also replaced and rewired the airport beacon. The project
also included installing a new instrument landing system.
The new instrument landing system included a
MALSR system, glide slope tower system, localizer system,
outer marker system, and a relocated AWOS weather sys-
tem. The FAA furnished new control buildings for the
MALSR system, glide slope sys-
tem and localizer system that
was shipped from out of state.
Muth Electric is the gen-
eral contractor, and the engineer
is Helms & Associates of Aber-
deen, SD.

ject Manager, Josh Broek-
huizen is the Project Foreman
and Wayne Schneider is the
Project Estimator. Other Muth Electric employees that are assisting on this project are as

Muth Elec-
tric received the
electrical bid for
the data center
project at the
University of
Nebraska Medi-
cal Center in
Omaha. Work
on this 50,000
square foot fa-
cility began in
December 2013
and was com-
pleted in Sep-
tember 2014.
This job is in
the administrative
building on the
UNMC campus.
The work is a new
UPS room for the
UNMC Data Cen-
ter. It is the main
data center for the
entire UNMC cam-
pus.
Muth Electric
installed new 2000A normal switchgear and EMER gear,
two new 1600A bypass switchboards, two 1200A CRAC
distribution panels, new feeds to existing PDVs and CRAC
units, as well as two new UPS battery banks and four
1600A ATJs. There is a maze of crossing conduits that took
detailed planning to achieve the end result.
The work was performed without disturbing
existing power. It took critical coordination and com-
munication between many different parties as to not
disturb normal campus conditions for a major hospi-
tal in Omaha.
The general contractor on this project was
Prairie Construction, and the engineer was Morris-
sey Engineers, both of Omaha.
Roger Schnitker was the Project Manager,
Gary Witherell was the Project Foreman and
Todd Stickler was the Project Estimator. Other Muth Electric employees that assisted on this pro-
ject were as follows: Derrick Kuta, Diego Hincapie, Jer-
emy Ramos, Jorge Hernandez, Jose Alvirez, Mike Stro-
hbehn, Orlando Hernandez, Paul Wuertz, Bob Holtz,

Build Dakota Scholarships are awarded to skilled scholars entering high-
need workforce programs at South Dakota technical institutes. Excellent elec-
trical programs are offered at Mitchell Technical Institute, Western Dakota
Technical Institute, and Southeast Technical Institute.
Both in-state students and out-of-state students are eligible for the electrical scholarships.
The electrical scholarships will support tuition, fees, books and other required program expenses in the eligible techni-
cal institute electrical programs.
Recipients of the electrical scholarships must commit to living and working in South Dakota, in the electrical field, for
three years following graduation.
In the first five years, a projected 300 scholarships will be awarded annually. Beyond the first five years, the endowment will
support approximately 50 full-ride scholarships.
The AGC (Associated General Contractors) also has scholarships available to students pursuing a construction-related
education. Below is a link to view the list of scholarships available.

The IEC (Independent Electrical Contractors) Foundation also awards scholarships to both entering and continuing col-
lege and apprenticeship students in an IEC-approved apprenticeship program, who are employees of IEC contractor or as-
sociate member companies, their children or grandchildren. Scholarships range from $500 up to $1,500 and are to be used
for tuition and/or books.
Over the past 18 months, the move to paperless at Muth Electric has taken
shape.
All of the project information that is utilized in the field is stored out on the
cloud using the Muth Electric 4-P system. Our onsite project offices all have a 55”
monitor to view project plans and specs. The plans are then loaded onto tablets to
be taken into the project building for the electricians. Pictured at right is a touch-
screen monitor which the estimators use to aid in going paperless.
The electricians have access to the full set of plans and also the specifications
for the project. They can move from one sheet to another and make notes on the
electronic plans if needed. Virtually all forms and paperwork have been converted
to electronic and are either being uploaded to the cloud or emailed to submit saving a large amount of time and handling of
paper.
The service departments at Muth Electric are currently utilizing iPads to enter all the information on material and labor
used on their jobs. This iPad entry will eliminate the paper flow from the field to the office. Additional information is available
to the technicians on their iPads to help them be more efficient and complete the jobs quicker.
We are excited about even more improvements that will be coming to our systems and how they will help us to be on
the cutting edge and work more efficiently for our customers!

A Distributed Antenna System (DAS) is a way to deal
with isolated spots of poor cellular coverage inside of a build-
ing. This is accomplished by installing a reception antenna, sig-
nal amplifier and relatively small antennas throughout the build-
ing that serve as cellular signal repeaters. Basically, you are
rebroadcasting cellular signals inside the building. Cellular tele-
phone users have come to expect their devices to work every-
where. With so much relying on being connected, today’s users
cannot afford cellular dead zones. Two major factors leading to
poor coverage are an expanding user base and the raw materi-
als utilized in today’s building construction. Combine these fac-
tors, and your facility’s interior becomes a cellular dead zone.
The DAS alleviates both issues, providing reliable cellular cov-
erage throughout your building.
Our company has the proper resources, tools and ex-
pertise to design and fully implement an in-building wireless cell
phone repeater system specific to your needs. If you are inter-
ested please call us today at the office nearest you!

Training Leaders of the Future
We are proud to announce that Muth Electric started its first
12-month Leadership Training Program. Towards the end of 2014,
36 employees were selected from a list of nominees gathered from
throughout our company. We sought out individuals not necessarily
in leadership positions, but those with leadership potential. In addi-
tion to potential, an important criteria is positive and energetic atti-
tudes they show every day at work.
Countless challenges confront all leaders today: The workforce and leadership
pool are shrinking; the demands for services are increasing; and, the needs of an increas-
ingly diverse and growing population are evolving. In addition, many organizations such
as ours will face significant challenges in leadership turnover and their capacity to pro-
mote leadership development.
We believe that we need to begin preparing tomorrow's leaders today and this
model of program will lead the way for us.
The participants in the program will attend 12 monthly 1½ day sessions covering
current leadership competencies, as well as a series of programs designed to expose par-
ticipants to new concepts of leadership. Participants will be given time to practice new
skills, and will have opportunities for in-depth conversations with current leaders and pro-
viding coaching opportunities throughout the program. At various times during the pro-
gram participants will be evaluated based on the progress, participation and performance
they have shown.
While it is our intention that all participants will be able to apply what they have
learned to their positions immediately – the true benefit will be a long term personal
growth of the employees in our company to help us many years into the future.
