Dyeing Silk ScarvesDo you love to wear beautiful scarves? Have

you ever thought about making your own? Join us to create five wonderful wearable silk scarves. Learn the Shibori technique of resist dyeing that includes methods such as clamping, tying, and binding to produce beautiful designs on the silk fabric. These silk scarves are beautiful accessories and make unique gifts. Sign up for one or all sessions! Intro to Fused Glass Jewelry Make your very own glass pendants in just one day! Learn the principles of fusing glass to create cabochons, pendants, and earrings. All the tools you need will be supplied by the instructor, so come prepared to work on projects in this hands-on class.

photography course. Learn advanced composition, shooting raw photos, histograms, using your flash, and studio lighting techniques. You will develop a better eye with our in-class critiques.Note: Students need to bring an SLR camera with manual capability (digital or film) to all classes.

Outdoor PhotographyAre you getting the hang of photography,

but need a little more information to become great? Learn tips and tricks about equipment and location. We will focus on photographing wildlife, nature, moving water and action photography. Note: Three sessions will be in the classroom from 6pm - 8pm, and two classes will be held in the field from 5pm - 7:30pm.Prerequisite: Photography - Beginner

Photographic Lighting TechniquesDiscover the art of good lighting. Ever tried to take photos at an indoor celebration and they didn’t turn out well? Join Peggy and learn the qualities and techniques of natural, flash, and studio lighting. Learn what to look for in an accessory flash and how to use it. You will also participate in a hands-on studio lighting session.

Photography Portfolio Certificate Capstone Class

The portfolio class is for those students who have taken all certificate classes and are ready to finalize their portfolios and have their exit show. We will discuss how to present your work and how to approach galleries.

Portfolios will be critiqued during the first two classes. Your exhibit work will be chosen by the end of the third class. The final class will consist of hanging the exit show and attending the reception and final exhibition.

Expenses/Supplies: Students should expect to have at least two pieces in the final show. Expect to pay $100 to $300 for printing and framing.

The Photography Certificate Program is a professional certificate program that gives you an excellent opportunity to explore an interest in photography as a hobby or for professional development.

It is ideal for those who wish to enhance their knowledge of commercial photography or to complement careers in public relations, marketing, graphic design or writing.

To earn the Photography Certificate: 1. Fill out an application (available online) 2. Successfully complete six core courses over a one year period (*see list below). 3. Exhibit your work in the final show.

This class is intended for those who know nothing (or almost nothing) about bridge and for the casual players who want to brush up on basic rules of bidding and play. Register soon! You will go home with a beautiful container garden full of herbs to prepare many tasty meals.

This class will take a “field trip” to see examples of appropriate pieces to complete your look. Using the same techniques seen in popular magazines and on HGTV, you can create a comfortable environment with visual appeal you will love to call home.

Appalachian Egg Basket Weaving Weave an Appalachian egg basket, twine

a gathering basket, and make a random design basket. Then you will apply the techniques to many other projects. Beginner and advanced students are welcome.Notes: 1) Vines will be provided. In this sequel to Introduction to Medicinal Herbs of Appalachia, you will learn about the art of sampling, the herbal medicine chest, tools of preparation, dosages and therapies, women’s health, pregnancy, men’s health, children’s health and pet health. Teen and Tween SewingThis sewing class is the perfect place for

learning very beginning sewing skills. Students learn to thread their machines, stitch straight lines and curves, and more. Come alone or with a friend for lots of fun! Studying Appalachia makes sense for all students—those born in Appalachia and those new to it. The Appalachian Community Studies Certificate Program is a professional certificate program designed to explore images of the region and its inhabitants, nurturing an awareness of the rich diversity of life in the area, its history, culture, and people. You will complete a series of courses that provide extensive preparation in the field.

You will learn about history, culture, challenges, health, and sustainability within the region. The question often comes up among students interested in exploring Appalachian Studies: “What can I do with an Appalachian Studies Certificate?” The answer truly is, “Whatever you want.”

Please Note this change: Effective January 1, 2011: In order to earn the Appalachian Community Studies Certificate, candidates must fill out an application and successfully complete the four core courses and four electives within the calendar year.

Trains of the Colorado RockiesExperience the majesty of the Colorado Rockies from four trains that celebrate the can-do spirit of the Old West. Scale Pike’s Peak on the world’s highest cog railway. Climb aboard an 1881 steam train for a journey through the San Juan Mountains. Travel the Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous highway in the U.S., reaching 12,183 ft. Discover the ancient culture of the Anasazi Indians at Mesa Verde National Park. Relish cowboy culture in an evening of authentic dining and entertainment.

reCreationBelly Dancing – Intermediate Are you ready for some more challenging belly dance moves? Join us to go beyond basic belly dancing. Learn more challenging combinations and choreographies. We will also explore more of the musical and dance styles of the belly dance world. You should have basic belly dance experience. Note: A signed liability waiver is required for participation.

Karate Beginner – Learn the basic stances, blocks, and straight middle punches used in karate, the basic physical exercises for agility, and then you will learn Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido techniques.

This fly-fishing class emphasizes fishing in the small and medium streams of northeast Georgia for novice fly fishers who want to develop their basic skills to enjoy the sport.

Pilates Pilates is designed to stretch, and strengthen

the body in keeping with balance and alignment. Your focus is on posture, length and core muscle control as well as enhancing your physical and emotional well-being.Note: Please bring a mat and water to class.

A Little Paddling, Hiking & A Picnic Start the morning with an informative kayaking session across the reservoir, and then learn about hiking. Enjoy a leisurely half-mile hike to a hidden lake to eat a picnic. Then take a short hike back to your kayak, and kayak back across the reservoir.Notes: 1) All kayaking equipment will be provided.2) Bring a daypack including a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, hiking boots, towel, water, and a sack lunch.3) Both sessions led by Patrick Hall.

Senior Stretch You will learn a complete series of standing

SCuba

ZumbaZumba is a Latin-inspired cardio dance class that turns the chore of “working out” into a fun, easy to follow, and addictive activity that you will want to attend again and again. Zumba combines the traditional genres of Latin and international dance with fitness variations designed to increase your cardio endurance, tone your body, and work on your coordination.

There is something for everyone in each class with a diverse spectrum of rhythms including Salsa, Flamenco, Samba, Reggaeton, Hip Hop, Indian Bhangra, African Dance, and even Belly Dance! Scuba Diving – Enriched AirTailor your scuba diving skills. With enriched air diving, you can extend your no stop limits. Learn the procedures, safety protocols, hazards, risks, benefits, and theory of no decompression diving with oxygen-enriched air. No dives are required.Note: You will receive a PADI Certification as an Enriched Air Diver at the end of the course.

Scuba Diving – Open WaterIf you want to become certified in Open Water Diving quickly, then this class is for you. Finish your PADI knowledge review and confined water segments in one weekend. You will learn water entry, descent, ascent, equipment use, safety, and other relevant topics. Notes: 1) A dive trip is required for Open Water certification. 2) Classes will be held in the classroom and pool.

Discounts may not be combined. Discounts cannot be used on online classes, music lessons, or travel programs. Programs not meeting minimum enrollment requirements will be canceled.

CanCeLLationS: If you must cancel, please notify us in writing at least three working days before the course begins. You will receive a refund of your registration fee minus a $20 processing fee. No refunds will be given on cancellations made within three working days of the course starting date. If we cancel a course for any reason, you will receive a full refund. We reserve the right to substitute instructors and/or class locations without prior notification.

SubStitutionS: If you register for a class and cannot attend, we will accept your substitute as long as you notify our office prior to the class start date.

tranSferS: You may transfer to another class if you notify us by phone or fax at least three working days before the course begins. The class to which you transfer must be already scheduled, and transfers must be made within the same fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Transfer requests made within three working days of the course starting date will not be granted and no refund will be given.

ChiLdren in CLaSS: Our goal is to provide quality instruction; therefore children are not permitted to sit in on classes they are not registered for.

SPeCiaL aCCoMModationS: If you require assistance under ADA to participate in any program, call at least 15 days before the course start date. See website for complete details on the ADA process.
