GAP YEARABROAD

CIEE is accredited by the Gap Year Association for demonstrating excellence in the field of gap year education and passing all required standards which are approved by the U.S. Department of Justice.

A gap year abroad is a unique opportunity to discover the world and find the right path for your future – at your own pace.

Take off for a semester or two! Choose a focus and one (or more) of over 15 extraordinary destinations worldwide. All our programs balance structured learning and cultural immersion to help you build confidence and skills with lifelong value, like problem-solving, self-awareness, and intercultural competence. Each week features group meetings to explore your topic further, take the next step in our global competence course, and join in on fun cultural activities. Our programs also include overnight excursions and opportunities for independent travel.

Just think: a year from now you’ll bring home so many great memories, new skills, and a fresh perspective before college.

LANGUAGE & CULTURE

Take the opportunity to fire up your fluency in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, or Spanish.

Stay with a carefully screened host family, and enjoy interactive language classes and cultural excursions for a fully immersive experience. Come home with a certificate of language learning, renewed confidence, and a global mindset.

SERVICE & LEADERSHIP

Spend your gap year serving a cause close to your heart and make a lasting impact on a community, while developing a new set of skills and perspectives. Created in partnership with local NGOs, our programs balance service time, local adventures, and mingling with community members for full cultural immersion and maximum fun. Come home with a certificate of international community service and a whole new perspective on the world.

GLOBAL INTERNSHIP

Join an English or Spanish speaking organization and get hands-on experience in a career or industry you’re curious about. All our programs combine at least three days of interning and two days of professional and self-development seminars each week. It’s not all work! We build in plenty of opportunities to experience everything that makes your host culture unique – language, arts, sports, food, sights tourists miss, and more – for a fully immersive adventure. Come home with a certificate of internship, a head start on your resume, and maybe a new career plan!
