Using SmartPlant Review The following memo will try to explain the basic commands needed to effectively use the SmartPlant Review software to visualize the electronic model made in PDS. Opening a SmartPlant Review session To open a Smart Plant Review session, follow the procedure below:

1. Open SmartPlant Review by double-clicking on the icon shown on Figure 1. If you cannot find this icon on your desktop, go to the Start menu, and navigate to All Programs > Intergraph SmartPlant Review. If none of these methods are available contact your project's PDS Coordinator.

2. A warning message will be shown giving you information about the number of days left to

use SmartPlant Review's license, accept it. The SmartPlant Review main screen will appear. If the warning message indicates there is no license available contact your project's PDS Coordinator.

3. Go to the menu File > Open and navigate to the file of the SmartPlant Review Session you

want to visualize. These sessions will usually be stored under the "spr" folder on you PDS project's directory structure. Note that PDS files are not stored on the same server as the rest of the documents for your project.

4. SmartPlant Review will start opening all files necessary to visualize the entire model, this

process could take several minutes, please be patient while this happens. Basic Tools This section will describe the basic tools used to move around the electronic model. Common Views:

This tool allows you to switch quickly between predefined common views, these views are: Top, Bottom, Front, Back, Left, Right, and 8 isometric views. When you select any of these views on this tool, SmartPlant Review will adjust the zoom and angle of observation to present the entire model in the desired direction. If you do not see this tool you can find it in the menu View > Toolbars > Common Views, or press on your keyboard Alt + 4.

Position Control:

This tool allows you to change the position from which you are visualizing the electronic model. You can specify coordinates (North, East and Elevation), Bearing Angle (from 0° to 360°, measured on the XY plane), and Elevation Angle (from -90° to 90°, allows you to look up or down on the model). If you do not see this tool you can find it in the menu View > Toolbars > Position Control, or press on your keyboard Alt + 1. Forward/Back, Left/Right Command:

This tool let you move around the model as if you were walking through it. Moving the mouse up or down let you "walk" forward or backwards, moving the mouse left or right let you turn in the desired direction. This tool is located on the "Common" toolbar. If you do not see this toolbar you can find it in the menu View > Toolbars > Common. Pan Command:

This tool let you change the position from which you are looking at the model. Moving the mouse up or down let you change the elevation, moving it left or right will pan the view in the desired direction, always perpendicular to the plane of view. This tool is located on the "Common" toolbar. If you do not see this toolbar you can find it in the menu View > Toolbars > Common.

Fit View to Object: This tool let allows you to quickly center the view on a desired object. Just right click anywhere on the model, select "Fit View to Object", select the object you want, and accept it by clicking anywhere on the model again. Zoom In/Out:

These tools allow you to zoom in or out of the actual view. It is located on the "Common" toolbar. If you do not see this toolbar you can find it in the menu View > Toolbars > Common. Find Object: This tool let you zoom to any equipment or line on your model simply by knowing their tag or number. To use this tool follow the procedure below:

1. Go to the menu Edit > Find Object. Or press Ctrl + F. The following form will appear.

2. Click on "Insert" so you can add new search criteria. In the little menu that displays select

"FIND", then select "Data".

3. Select the type of data you want to search; this can be "Equip No", "Line No", "Nozzle No",

etc. Then select "=" to tell SmartPlant Review to look for an exact match.

4. Enter the information you want to look for and accept, SmartPlant Review will adjust the

view to fit the element you are looking for. If more than one element match the criteria specified before, a dialog box will let you cycle through the results.

Auto-Highlight:

This tool allows you to see information about any component in the model; it can be an equipment, a line, or the piperack. It is located on the "Common" toolbar. If you do not see this toolbar you can find it in the menu View > Toolbars > Common. To use it just click on it, and then click on the element you want. The information displayed will depend on the type of element selected, the figure below illustrates the information shown for a line.

Text View (Object Data): The text view is an easier way to look at he information provided by the auto-highlight tool. To

display it click on the "Four Views" button ( ), located on the "Window" toolbar. If you do not see this toolbar you can find it in the menu View > Toolbars > Window.

When you click on this button the "Text View" window will be displayed at the bottom of your screen. The next time you use the Auto-Highlight tool, the information will be displayed on this new window.
