Alasdair Bright has been a freelance illustrator since 2001 and works from home in the Castle Road area. He particularly loves drawing, whether using a Wacom stylus or an old fountain pen, and uses Photoshop to colour his digital work.

Alasdair also produces ink and watercolour images, which he exhibits through the Eagle Gallery. These pictures often include people and places around Bedford, but he is also rather fond of drawing wildlife giving him a great excuse to head off to the coast.

David likes to use traditional drawing tools such as pens, pencils, watercolours and pencil crayons but sometimes uses Photoshop to add texture and to ‘tidy up’ his fingerprints and smudges.

His illustrations have appeared in magazines, children’s books, album covers, on t-shirts and as part of marketing campaigns.

David recently completed a self-initiated ‘Drawing A Day’ project in which he created one illustration a day for a year and put them on-line for the world to see and critique. The 365 drawings from the project have been exhibited in a number of gallery spaces around the U.K.

Artwork:

Hello, I grew up in the middle of nowhere - well a tiny village near the peak district. I have always loved stories, drawing, ice magic chocolate sauce and woolly socks.

I worked as a textile designer before making the decision to concentrate on my own illustrations. I use mixed media techniques, a combination of pattern, drawing, collage and sometimes embroidery techniques. I have just recently shown at the affordable art fair spring show and am represented by Dadbrook gallery, Avery Contemporary Arts and Degreeart.com.

My illustrations are available to purchase as prints cards or original artwork and I take commissions for personal projects, please get in touch lovely people.

Scarlett Tierney

Using pencil and a splash of colour she creates delicately detailed illustrations, favouring portraiture.

Scarlett studied Fashion & Textiles at Bedford College but moved into illustration because she mostly enjoyed drawing with the sewing machines, Scarlett still returns to Bedford College occassionally to work as an associate lecturer.

She never finishes a cup of tea.

Stuart Adams

Stuart enjoys creating imaginary cities and drawing daydreams onto paper. The best way to describe his artwork is to say that it’s like taking a mystery tour bus through a city where Hieronymus Bosch morphs into Disney World.

The nucleus of his work begins with the imagery that he loved from his childhood. Characters are often taken from Stuart’s sketchbooks and then collaged together to form abstracted narratives.

He is inspired by Naïve Art, retro computer game visuals, The CoBrA movement, light shows and the music of Captain Beefheart.

Kristina Bullen

There are many things we could write about Kristina in this space but there are only three things you really need to know. She is obsessed with Disney movies, addicted to tea and lives on a diet that is almost exclusively cheese.

Although she believes it to be her calling in life to one day work for Disney and become a world famous animator, in the meantime Kristina makes her living designing websites and iPad apps, while pursuing other artistic endeavours in her free time.

James Freckingham (AKA Robotic Industries)

James been a professional model maker and sculptor for 15 years working in a number of different areas and mediums.

To express his more creative side he likes to design creatures and characters both in 2D and 3D and has exhibited his pieces in a number of galleries and stores.

This piece taps into James’s love of movie and music posters. He has given it a narrative, filmic feel despite it being for a sports event. It also explores his love of simple lines and flat bold colours, something that he brings into to both his 2D and 3D work.

He lives locally, however much of his time is spent in London.

Jamie Stevenson

Jamie was born and bred in Bedfordshire apart from a few years spent living by the sea chatting to donkeys on the beach.

Now Jamie finds that there’s nothing better than creating colourful characters through writing, illustrating and all sorts of craftwork.

Jamie is a member of SCBWI and Artist’s Network Bedfordshire and has won several competitions for her paintings, illustrations and craftwork, with some being published.

When she isn’t scribbling, doodling or up to some crafty activities you can find her playing her violin (badly) or playing in the counryside or beach with her husband, little daughter and crazy hounds, chatting to donkeys!
