Chairmans Foreword

On behalf of the players, coaches and committee of Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers, I extend to you all a warm welcome to our Annual Sportsman’s Dinner for 2013.

We are delighted to once again welcome John McKelvie as our Chairman for the night and also to welcome John Gahagan back as one of our guest speakers along with Andy Goram and I am confident that you will be highly entertained by this trio.

This year has seen significant growth in our Club, with the introduction of a Girls Academy and our Mini Kickers teams. We now have close to 300 young footballers and 60 coaches across 16 teams.

The expansion of our Club means that managing our finances well is more important than ever. In season 2012/13 the club has spent over £47,000 running its 16 teams

Some examples of the expenditure we have incurred over the last year are as follows: £26,000 to hire pitches and sports halls for matches and training; £10,000 invested in football kit and equipment; £8,000 for team regis-trations, referees, and other match costs £2,000 for our end of season awards night £1,000 for coach education

The Club can only manage to sustain this investment if we raise enough money through our weekly subscrip-tions, kit sponsorship and fundraising events such as our Sportsman’s Dinner, Christmas raffle and our Hotshots event.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the players, parents and coaches who have helped with our fundraising efforts this season. I also want to give a special thanks to all of our team sponsors whose generosity in sponsoring teams has helped us enormously once again this year.

Last weeks presentations at Motherwell Civic Centre had over 600 players, parents and coaches in attendance and this once again highlights the growth of the club in recent times, and, as we move towards our 20th anniver-sary in 2014, this growth will continue with another girl’s team and a 2009 Mini Kickers team already planned.

On the field our teams continue to flourish at both developmental and competitive levels, our under 19’s retained their league title and also lifted the league cup, whilst our under 14’s reached the final of the league cup and finished second in the league, our 2000’s also finished as runners up in there league campaign, whilst our 2001 and 2002 teams took part in festivals in Southport and Ayr respectively, whilst our 2003 team recently took part in the prestigious Rossvale tournament in Glasgow and were awarded with the Fair Play trophy for the way they conducted themselves throughout the tournament.

This is only a very small example of the successes achieved across the season and there are many more across the various age groups, tonight should therefore be seen not only as an important fundraiser for the club but also as an opportunity to celebrate these successes, none of which would be possible were it not for the efforts of all our excellent coaches who continually give up their time without complaint.

On behalf of the Club Committee I would once again like to thank parents, sponsors and other friends of the club for their continued financial support.

John Glancy
