15 Saturday January 26, 2019 STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour by various educational insti- tutions across Jammu province where Tricolour was unfurled and cultural activities were presented by the students to mark the occasion. Delhi Public School (DPS) Nagbani celebrated Republic Day with enthusiasm. A special assembly started with the singing of patriotic songs acknowledging the martyrs for their sacrifices. Cultural activities were also presented by the students. The Principal of the School, R.K Verma said, "Every year we at DPS Nagbani, reaffirm our loyalty to our country, acknowl- edging the sacrifices by our unsung heroes and rededicate our- selves to building a stronger and better India, an India of our dreams." He concluded by saying that we are proud of our nation's achievements and look ahead to the bright future of our country. Stephens International Public School celebrated Republic Day with fervour to celebrate unity, harmony and fusion. The celebration commenced with the recitation of the nation- al song which was followed by patriotic thoughts. The students threw light on the priceless sacrifices done by our freedom fighters and about the relevance of the constitution and the preamble. The Chairman of the School, Dr Kamal Saini and Director, Satvinder Saini wished everyone a joyous Republic Day. The Principal, Manoj Kumar Agnihotri talked about the diverse nation and its national achievements. Jammu Sanskriti School Kathua celebrated Republic Day with passion and zeal and a realisation henceforth to build an even stronger nation. For classes 4th to 10th the school organised a special trip to the Cineplex to watch the Biopic of 'Jhansi Ki Rani- Manikarnika' so as to foster an understanding and realisation of the intense and brave sacrifices performed by our freedom fighters to achieve Swaraj. The students of classes 1st and 2nd presented some heart rendering slogans on our motherland India, simultaneously paying a special tribute to Bapu Gandhi as they reflected on the theme for this year's Republic Day i.e. '150th Birth Anniversary of Gandhi ji'. The students also performed a Nukad Natak on Fundamental Duties of our Constitution. The students of classes Pre-Nur, 4th and 5th performed on a medley of patriotic songs based on the India. Mili R. Smbria, Principal JSS, Kathua thanked and encour- aged the coordinators Pardeep Kour (Middle Wing), Smriti Sharma (Primary wing),. Monika Sharma (Pre Primary Wing) along with Romy (Adm. May Fair Schools Girls Brass Band contingent is going to participate in the Republic Day celebration held at University of Jammu tomorrow. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Secretary Tourism Rigzin Sampheal along with Director Sericulture Gulzar Ahmad Shabnum on Friday started a pilot 'Seri-Tourism' project at Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC) Sidhra by planting highly improved ornamental mulberry saplings. On the occasion, Secretary Tourism said that the Model Mulberry Garden coming up adjacent to the turf of the golf course in a well-designed fashion shall prove a green destination to fasci- nate the golfers as well as the visitors to the area. Lauding the support of Sericulture Department in formulation and execution of the novel project, he said that completion of such projects shall give impetus to the promotion of both the sectors directly involved with the liveli- hood of the people. He said that Food Craft Institute at Jagti Jammu is also being covered under Seri-Tourism by way of mulberry plantation. "The success of this project could encourage extension of the pro- gramme to other tourism destinations across the State in years to come," Sampheal said, adding that Seri-tourism and eco-tourism shall go all together to fetch more nature lovers to the State. Director Sericulture enumerating various facets of Seri-Tourism said that it shall open new areas of entertainment for the tourists as well as creating more green reserves for the commercial activities under the Sericulture sector. He said that one thousand mulberry saplings are being planted in the garden and an equal number alongside the approaches and other patches of the Course. He further said that the Sericulture Department is also exploring other joint ventures, where eco-conservation and pro- motion of sericulture will go side by side. Shabnam said that the Department shall also be supplementing the efforts for the preservation of age-old heritage of the State. He said that the Department shall be extending its support to any sector having relevance to sericulture activities. Secretary JTGC also spoke on the occasion and elaborated on the various components of the pilot project. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Students of Delhi Public School (DPS), Jammu came out with flying colours in the prestigious VVM State Level Exam-2018-19, conduct- ed by Vigyan Parishad, the state chapter of Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) on January 20, 2019. The students of Classes VI to IX and XI participated in this exam held at CSIR-IIIM, Jammu. Parikansh Rakwal (VI-B) and Nadia Jarin (VIII- B) stole the limelight by scoring first ranks at State level, while Siya (VII-F) and Rachit Gupta (XI-A) proved their mettle by scoring 2nd ranks in their respective Class categories. These four students will now participate in the national level talent search camp to be held in Hyderabad on May 18 and 19, 2019. Further, a commendable third position was also scored by Shalin Sawhney of VII-E. The winners were awarded certifi- cates of merit and participation and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000, respectively. A total of 126 candidates were shortlisted out of more than 1,200 who appeared from J&K State for this exam. STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Secretary Tourism Rigzin Samphealalong with Director Sericulture Gulzar AhmadShabnum on Friday started a pilot 'Seri-Tourism'project at Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC)Sidhra by planting highly improved ornamentalmulberry saplings.

On the occasion, Secretary Tourism said thatthe Model Mulberry Garden coming up adjacentto the turf of the golf course in a well-designedfashion shall prove a green destination to fasci-nate the golfers as well as the visitors to the area.

Lauding the support of SericultureDepartment in formulation and execution of thenovel project, he said that completion of suchprojects shall give impetus to the promotion ofboth the sectors directly involved with the liveli-hood of the people.

He said that Food Craft Institute at JagtiJammu is also being covered under Seri-Tourismby way of mulberry plantation. "The success ofthis project could encourage extension of the pro-gramme to other tourism destinations across theState in years to come," Sampheal said, addingthat Seri-tourism and eco-tourism shall go alltogether to fetch more nature lovers to the State.

Director Sericulture enumerating variousfacets of Seri-Tourism said that it shall open newareas of entertainment for the tourists as well ascreating more green reserves for the commercialactivities under the Sericulture sector.

He said that one thousand mulberry saplingsare being planted in the garden and an equalnumber alongside the approaches and otherpatches of the Course. He further said that theSericulture Department is also exploring otherjoint ventures, where eco-conservation and pro-

motion of sericulture will go side by side.Shabnam said that the Department shall also besupplementing the efforts for the preservation ofage-old heritage of the State. He said that theDepartment shall be extending its support to anysector having relevance to sericulture activities.

Secretary JTGC also spoke on the occasion andelaborated on the various components of the pilotproject. Project Executive Jammu, JavidAhmad, District Sericulture Officer Jammu,Farhat Abbas and other officers of Sericultureand Tourism Departments were also present onthe occasion.

STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Students of DelhiPublic School (DPS), Jammucame out with flying colours inthe prestigious VVM StateLevel Exam-2018-19, conduct-ed by Vigyan Parishad, thestate chapter of VijnanaBharati (VIBHA) on January20, 2019.

The students of Classes VI toIX and XI participated in thisexam held at CSIR-IIIM,Jammu. Parikansh Rakwal(VI-B) and Nadia Jarin (VIII-B) stole the limelight by scoringfirst ranks at State level, while

Siya (VII-F) and Rachit Gupta(XI-A) proved their mettle byscoring 2nd ranks in theirrespective Class categories.These four students will nowparticipate in the national leveltalent search camp to be held inHyderabad on May 18 and 19,2019.

Further, a commendable thirdposition was also scored byShalin Sawhney of VII-E. Thewinners were awarded certifi-cates of merit and participationand a cash prize of Rs. 5,000,Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000,respectively.

A total of 126 candidateswere shortlisted out of morethan 1,200 who appeared fromJ&K State for this exam. Only12 top students have qualifiedfor the national level exam outof which DPS Jammu clinchedtwo first positions, two secondpositions and one third posi-tion.

Principal DPS Jammu,Ruchi Chabra congratulatedthe students for their outstand-ing performance and encour-aged them to do well in theirNational Level Exam.Headmistress, Meenu Guptaalso applauded the students fortaking the school to greaterheights and expressed her con-fidence that their stellar per-formance would continue in theupcoming national camp.

SPORTS REPORTERJAMMU: Under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir KabaddiAssociation, the State team on Friday left for participation in the 66thSenior National Championship to be held at Raigarh in Maharashtrafrom January 28 to 31.

Before their departure, the team members presented with the sportskits by President of the Association, Anil Gupta in the presence ofKuldeep Kumar Gupta (CEO), Surinder Mohan (General Secretary)and Sangram Singh (Treasurer). Also present were Sanjit Kumar(District Secretary), Anil Modi (Organising Secretary), Ankush Chib(Associate Secretary), Dinesh Gupta and Rakesh Kumar (interna-tional player). Besides individual achievers across different recognised andunrecognised games, the Women's Ice Hockey team of Leh wasselected for the State's top sports awards.

The awardees, as per an order issued in this regard today shallget Rs 51,000 cash award, medal and citation. Other awardees areDanish Farooq, presently part of the Real Kashmir football clubplaying in the I-League; Rasik Salam (Cricket), Bilal Ahmed Dar(Cycling), Jasia Akhter (Cricket), Ummar Ashraf (Deaf Cricket),Hiteshwar Singh (Rollball), Faheem Fayaz (Pencak Silat) andChandeep Singh (Para Sports).
