Athletics Rochdale Year 7 Indoor Athletics - Boys 5th & Girls 5th
Boccia & Kurling Cross Country
Zak Gorton-Rigg, Aaron Waddington, Nu’aym
Manzor, Jude Anders, Emily Higginson, Tierney
Dutton, Sahar Ali and Haniah Zulfiqar represented
the school in the Rochdale Year 7 Indoor
Athletics. The best results of the day for the boys
were Nu’aym and Jude who were runners up in
the vertical jump and the boys relay team who
were placed third in the eight lap Paalauf. Haniah
and Emily were third in the vertical jump and the
girls relay team were also placed third in the 8 lap
Paalauf.
ISA North of England Finals The Senior finals were held at Scarisbrick Hall in Ormskirk. The Prep finals were once again held in the mud at Beech House. Thirty four schools attended the event, with 820 runners competing. This was by far the largest ISA sporting event ever held in the North of England. Howard for their performance at the
boccia and kurling tournament. The
students performed really well,
considering they have only
participated in the sport a handful
of times. Both the students worked
well with pupils from other schools
and improved their teamwork skills!
Dodgeball Football Che Sullivan-Manders and Charlie Egerton represented the school for a football training session and tournament at the Soccer Factory in Castleton. They participated in various skill stations such as passing, dribbling and shooting. At the end of the event a tournament was held, mixing the teams and various schools together. Che and Charlie remained on the same team and ending up winning the tournament. The event was held as a talent spotting event for Bridgeability football team, and both Che and Charlie have been invited to join the football club.

Gymnastics
U11 Rochdale Tournament - 4th The following students took part in the first
Preliminary round of the Rochdale Schools
dodgeball tournament: Grace Pountain,
Anais Aston, Lauren El-Hage, Farhaan
Shoaib, Harry Hurst-Grover, Zidan Illahi
and Rayan Hussain. The students came
joint 4th but will sadly not progress onto
the finals. They won 4 games, lost 7 and
drew 1.
They played against Kentmere Academy,
All Souls, Castleton and Caldershaw.
U13 Rochdale Tournament - 3rd Congratulations to our U13 boys dodgeball team
for receiving bronze medals at the Rochdale
schools games. The boys played against Holy
Family, losing 2 out of their 3 matches. They then
played against Kingsway Park and won all 3. Their
3rd game was against Hollingworth where they
won 2 games out of 3, and their final game was
against Matthew Moss, where they lost 1 game,
won 1 game and drew their final game. Well done

Rico Bernales, Jawad Ali, Che Sullivan-Manders,
and Charlie Egerton.
Greater Manchester School Games – 5th Earlier in the year our Year 2 students qualified for
the Manchester School Games Finals to represent
Rochdale against the other boroughs in
Manchester. The students came 5th place out of 9
schools in this final and performed their three
routines in front of Olympic Bronze Medallist Beth
Tweddle. Congratulations to Arabella Hey, Laya
Karunanandarajah, Haris Sheikh, Ihsaan Al-Haqq
and Luchia Wild for their performance. Also, well
done to Laya Karunanandarajah for receiving the
award of the best individual performance for Beech
House School.

House Results Spring Term 2019
Cross Country This year’s event produced some exciting races. The result of the competition was in doubt until the final race. The results are: 1st Saturn – 19 2nd Mercury & Jupiter – 16 4th Neptune - 15
Prep Swimming Gala The gala produced a clear winner, which was the gala itself. All but one Upper Prep pupil received a certificate for being in the first three places. The result saw Mercury clearly retain their title. 1st Mercury- 39pts 2nd Saturn- 22pts 3rd Neptune – 22pts 4th Jupiter – 11pts
House Points The totals at the end of the Spring Term are:
Saturn : 571 Neptune : 501 Mercury : 402 Jupiter : 359 House Captain Luke Ashworth receives the Prep swimming gala trophy on behalf of Mercury
The following students who took part in the Mini Stars event, ran by Hopwood Hall College students: Avalee
Sullivan-Manders, Yahya Tahir, Yumna Rana, Fatima Afzal, Sarim Khattak, Evie Wallet, Yusuf Rizwan and
Aayan Khan.The first activity was the tennis ball challenge, where the students had to work on their balance
and co-ordination. Well done to Yusuf for completing this in the fastest time. The next activity was won by
Avalee and Yahya, which was the bean bag toss, working on accuracy and precision. Sarim was the
champion of the agility fun race, where students had to run around cones. The next activity was a team race
called bean speed, to which the students completed this in 4 minutes and 9 seconds. The volley basketball
shooting event was won by Yusuf and Evie, showing some great skills of power, and the final activity was
won by Yumna. The students had to roll a ball at some skittles whilst blindfolded. Well done to all
participants, it was a great day which we all very much enjoyed!
