Matagorda’s Yuletide Sail-A-Bration at the Matagorda Harbor attracted a great crowd Friday night. The event included a spectacular fireworks show hosted by STP and cash prizes for the best boats. All proceeds from the annual event help local charities.
By closing out their regular season and playoff run with a 4-1 streak including both a bi-district and area championship, the 2014 edition of the Van Vleck L e o p a r d s posted one of the school’s all-time best seasons. The Leopards finished the
season with a 9-4 record and hopefully established a precedent for future Leopard teams. “I hope this will carry
over to next year,” Leopard Head Coach Robert Blackmon said. “Each year you have a different team. But that’s why we brought a lot of the young (JV) guys up for the playoffs.“This should give the
returning players a taste of success they can build on for the future. Having experienced this postseason run, they have a better understanding of what it takes to get this far and what it takes to go even deeper into the playoffs. “I really feel bad for the
seniors. This is going to hurt for a while. But was proud to have the opportunity to coach them.”

“Being perfect is not about that scoreboard out
there. It’s not about winning. It’s about you and your r e l a t i onsh ip with yourself, your family and your friends. Being perfect is about being
able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didn’t let them down because you told them the truth. And that truth is you did everything you could. There wasn’t one more thing you could’ve done. Can you live in that moment as best you can, with clear eyes, and love in your heart, with joy in your heart? If you can do that gentleman - you’re perfect!”This famous movie quote
from Coach Gary Gaines in 2004’s Friday Night Lights perfectly sums up this year’s Leopard squad. They were perfect. It was an honor to follow thier magical run and to experience the mountaintops with them, as well as the valley. It is my sincere hope that they know just how proud they’ve made their community, and that they would hold their heads up high. Well played, men. Well played.

The alleged incident involved a social media post thread regarding the Ferguson verdict that resulted in the complainant being named in a racially
provocative rant and an offensive image posted in the feed. The complainant took a screenshot of both incidents before they were deleted off the newsfeed.
“The Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of comments allegedly made by a Matagorda County Sheriff’s Deputy using
