SPORTS AND FAMILY DAY 2013
PATT’s Sports and Family Day 2013, held on May 25th,
was a day of fun, healthy rivalry and camaraderie.
Hundreds of employees, along with their families,
attended the event at Trinity College Grounds, in Moka
Maraval.
Minister Chandresh Sharma walks with Sharon Mark Ag. GM/CEO
The Port’s line minister, Minister of Transport, the
Honourable Chandresh Sharma made a surprise
appearance, much to the delight of employees, and
presented a special prize. Lured by the aroma that
emanated from the Cut-up Crew’s tent, the Minister
made his way there to join the Chairman, and even
sampled some of the cooking. Port’s Chairman, Joseph
Toney, Commissioner Dorant Jack and Commissioners
(designate) Ms. Nirmala Harrylal and Ms. Patricia Herry
were also present on the day.
The four teams that took part in the March Past
competition certainly put on an outstanding show,
displaying their creativity, originality and style. The
teams were judged by two experienced judges- Derek
Mc Clean of the T&T Defense Force and Mr. Malcolm Boyce of the T&T Police Service. It was a spectacular show and the judges praised all four teams.

which was well-received by all in attendance. The venue
was the Conference Room, where employees
assembled during the lunch break to learn about our
country’s East Indian heritage.
Chandra Rampersad of the Accounts Department
shared her knowledge of the East Indian Indentureship,
the voyage to the island and the rich legacy that now
forms part of our national heritage. The highlight of the
event was a fashion show where ten females (including
two contestants from the Port of Scarborough) and
three male contestants participated.

Betty Ann Gibbons, encouraged crowd participation by
posing some simple and at times entertaining questions
to members of the audience. In attendance were

throughout the Port.
FUSION VII - BIGGER AND BETTER
PATT’s Fusion VII was a great success, and it was evident
on Saturday 8th June that the event keeps growing in
popularity. Fusion which began in 2007 with 14 teams,
had an increase to 106 teams in the event, with a total
of 424 persons participating. The event started and
ended at Samaan Park in Chaguaramas, which proved to
be a beautiful environment for the hundreds of
participants and supporters. There were three legs to
the 2013 race, which began at 3:45am and ended when
the last teams came in just before 6pm.
The three legs of the day’s challenge were:
1. An 11km. hike over the northern range.
2. A 19km run – with a 14lb weight known as the
Fusion Friend, followed by a cross harbour
swim.
3. And finally, a 4km. run along the golf course.

There was also a team mental component as the Fusion
event challenges both the physical and mental ability of
participants.
An all-female team takes on the mental part of the challenge
For Fusion VII, four teams from the Port Authority
entered. Team ‘Jerry-Ah-Tricks’ placed 38th in the final
standings and was the first port team to reach the finish
line. Also in winners’ row was team TTIT Trekkers who
captured the prize for the ‘Team with the oldest
participants’ - an accomplishment of which they were
extremely proud. But the day belonged to Peake’s Bush
Warriors, a group of adventure trailers who walked
away with the challenge trophy and the $10,000.00
prize cheque. They were followed by last year’s winners
Fantastic Four, while Now You Don’t (an adventure trail
group) maintained their third place standing from last
year.
At last – the finish line
Representing the Port’s Management Team at the prize
giving ceremony were: Ag. General Manager/CEO. Ms.
Sharon Mark; Ms. Betty Ann Gibbons, Manager Public
Relations, Ms. Vilma Lewis-Cockburn, Manager

A special salute goes to Charles Bobb-Semple, former

also be given to the Port Authority Sport Club and all
the other port employees who assisted in ensuring the
day went smoothly. And finally, a big thank you is sent
