Unfortunately the Lightning Premiership was cancelled due to wet weather last week. When we received the notification of the cancellation on Friday morning, I used the FlexiBuzz app to inform parents. During the course of the day I discovered that some parents did not receive the message via FlexiBuzz. Upon investigating why this happened, it came to light that some parents have yet to update their “boxes” to that of their child’s 2017 class. Please update your links to the 2017 classes to ensure you receive Flexibuzz notifications. Also, just a reminder that FlexiBuzz can be used to notify the office, and your child's teacher, of absences.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY All families will receive an invitation to participate in the 2017 Parent Opinion Survey with today’s newsletter. In the past, a random sample of parents were invited, however I would like to provide all families with the opportunity to have their say. I value your opinions and I use the results for future planning at Katandra West Primary School. The survey is your chance to acknowledge the things we are doing well and the things we need to work on as a school community.

CHESS TOURNAMENT Mrs Woolley has been working with the students in our school’s Chess Club each fortnight throughout 2017. Students in the Chess Club will have the opportunity to demonstrate their chess skills in a tournament that Katandra West Primary School is hosting on Wednesday 30th August. The other schools in our cluster will be invited to send along any of their students who would like to participate. Students who are not in the Chess Club will not be able to participate due to restricted numbers. A note with details of the event will be sent home today with the Chess Club members. This includes a form for a lunch pack that our P&F Committee will be providing for Chess Tournament participants. The entry fee for Chess Club members is covered in the Parent Payment. All Chess Club members have expressed a desire to participate in the tournament, if you do not wish your child to participate please inform the office. 15 MILE CREEK CAMP There’s a buzz amongst our Year 5 and 6 students at the moment. The excitement around going to 15 Mile Creek Camp next week is building. Our program for the camp is Exploring our Environment giving students the opportunity to learn more about different types of environments (alpine,

rock, bush, water). Families are reminded that the final payment for the camp was due TODAY. If you have yet to finalise payment please contact the office to make arrangements.

PARENT/STUDENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES Thank you for supporting the Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences with your attendance and participation. It was a fantastic opportunity to see and hear about your child’s learning from both your child and their teacher. We believe that students are empowered and become engaged in their learning if they are expected to take responsibility for their own learning. If at any stage you wish to speak with your child’s teacher, please contact them at school to arrange a convenient time to have a chat. TRANSITION Our Transition program for Foundation 2018 students started today with our current Foundation students paying a visit to the Katandra West Children’s Centre. Both current and future Foundation children enjoyed spending time together. We are currently taking enrollments, so if you know of anyone intending to enroll their child at Katandra West PS or unsure of where they will be enrolling their child, please encourage them to contact me at school.
