I AM PROUD to say as the Sacred Sports Foundation chairman, the organisation founded by my late

brother Keith Alexander, that he had the character to enact change. His struggles as a player to both be

successful and retain his own identity, helped build a fiercely intelligent character, with great wit and

tremendous humility and determination.

His success as one of the first Black UK professional managers in the English game is a testament to his

spirit and ability to rise above even the most shocking cultural and racial discrimination. Keith was

passionate about the potential for sport in the region and actively worked to ensure that the power of sport

was utilised positively. That is why we hope to be an active catalyst for change.

At a micro level the Foundation will continue to positively change the lives of those we work with, providing

opportunities for people from all around the world. At a Macro level, we hope to influence and force our

sporting family to actively debate and change those practices that have disempowered participants in the

most socially life affirming activity there is SPORT!

SPORT IN BLACK & WHITE CARIBBEAN COLLEGE SHOWCASE

The Sport in Black & White Caribbean College Showcase is designed to give the prospective college

player from the Caribbean an opportunity to participate in a typical college preseason, under the

watchful eyes of top college coaches.

Participants will be assigned together and "the team" will participate in the evening matches against

other groups.

Players will be put through their paces by leading coaches, including former Arsenal player and

Professional Football Association (PFA) Senior Coaching Instructor Paul Davis and former England

player and UEFA B licensed coach Brian Deane.

It is expected that more than 25 leading college coaches from around the US will be in attendance,

including National Soccer Coaches Association of America representatives. NSCAA Board member

and Black Coaches Committee Chairman Daniel Gordon who is also Head Boys Coach at University

School of Nashville will also be attending.

College coaches from all academic levels will be in attendance and youth from all academic levels

will get the chance to show what they can do in front of a unique gathering of North American and UK

based talent evaluators with scholarships available to play football/soccer at the next level.

Participants from the following Islands will come together to showcase their talent

unseen talent

SHOWCASING THE CARIBBEANS BEST TALENT- Typically men & women aged 16 to 20, will be encouraged to attend. Youth that are set to complete secondary school will have the chance to meet and perform in front of coaches at Junior College level. More advanced academic students will have the opportunity to showcase their talent for NAIA schools and NCAA Division I, II and III.

A special feature of the Sport in Black & White Caribbean College Showcase is the Question and Answer Session with our coaches.

The Session will be led by St. Lucia Football Association Technical Director Ces Podd, a former professional player of 20 years and past Leeds United advanced academy director. He has also held senior technical positions in St. Vincent & the Grenadines and St. Kitts & Nevis. The panel will include coaches from NCAA Division I, 11 and III NAIA and Junior College, covering all levels of athletes.

This unique opportunity will only be open to a limited number of players from around the region.

The Sport in Black & White College Showcase is the first event of its kind and will see college coaches integrated with the players by taking training sessions and with a Q&A session that will educate our attendees on the college process and the best steps to take.

A full written evaluation will be give at the end of the process, assistance will be provided with references and placement in college programs.

Prior to the camp, all players are expected to complete a player profile that will be available to all coaches for the sessions. With the unique nature of this Showcase enrolment will be limited to 150.

Who should attend

PLAYERS

Invited International College coaches will integrate with the players by taking training sessions and

with a Q&A session that will educate participants on the college process and the best steps to take.

A full written evaluation will be given at the end of the weekends session.

Assistance will be provided with references and placement in college programmes.

Prior to the camp, all players must complete a player profile that will be available to all coaches for the

sessions.

With the unique nature of this Showcase enrolment will be limited to 150.

the college showcase is open to:

Male & Female Soccer/Football players.

Must be resident in the Caribbean between the ages of 16-20.

A special feature of the Sport in Black & White College Showcase is the Question and Answer

Session with our coaches. The Session will be led by St. Lucia Football Association Technical

Academics

Simply put, you must be eligible for the level of play. High school graduation through to a high

educational proficiency and leading SAT at the other end of the scale. It is important to match

student expectations with college coaching goals.

Here are some academic questions every recruit might want to ask:

• What are the admission requirements for an athlete?

•Will my specific major interfere with the athletic schedule?

•What are some of the most popular majors for athletes on your team?

•Does your team have a full-time academic advisor?

•Do your players graduate in four years?

•Can the application fee be waived for athletes?

Football/Soccer Recruiting In many cases an athletic evaluation will determine how heavily the coaching staff will be

recruiting a prospect.

Here are some “must ask” questions for recruits at any point in the process:

•Has your coaching staff evaluated me?

•Where do I fit on your recruiting board?

•Have you offered scholarships to others in my class? At my position?

•Have any other athletes in my class accepted the offers?

•How many players will you be recruiting at my position?

ORGANISERS

SACRED SPORTS FOUNDATION is the realisation of a lifelong dream to build a sustainable future

for ourselves and our families, while giving back to local communities. The Foundation is a legally

registered not for profit charity – economically, politically independent non denominational

organisation based in Saint Lucia, West Indies.

We are one of the few sports-based charities in the Caribbean that works to increase opportunity

and social inclusion for Caribbean youth primarily between the ages of 6-23. We also act as a

bridge between sports tourism promotion and youth development. The nexus between the two is of

critical importance especially in terms of confronting some of the challenges faced by our youth.

We are a relatively young, innovative, driven organisation, determined to help change the fortunes

of our most disadvantaged youth. And we are proud of our inclusive approach, strong community

links and market leading implementation and management skills. That’s why the EU funded us in

2009 to produce a national sports coaching development programme for the Government of Saint

Lucia.

As well as having partnered with Caribbean Governments, stakeholders and social agencies, the

Foundation has also signed a three year agreement with Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE)

and secured important grants from UNESCO and the Australian Government among others. We

also act as a bridge between sports tourism promotion and youth development.
