“For many years, McDonald’s has been a REAP board member and also a facilitator of REAP classes across the United States. McDonald’s values the REAP relationship as a source of talented diversity candidates interested in corporate real estate careers. As a former member of the Board of Directors for REAP, I had the pleasure of meeting many REAP participants. I consistently found REAP candidates to be very professional and educated with an impressive desire to work within the real estate industry.”

—Mark Kerrigan Real Estate Director

McDonald’s USA

About The Real Estate Associate Program (REAP) It would be not entirely accurate to say that REAP exists exclusively to create diversity in commercial real estate.

It does. But there is a component more crucial and more beneficial to you.

REAP links talented professionals to companies like yours who need smarter, more resourceful, more strategic, more results oriented people than ever before.

America is in the midst of unprecedented demographic change with an increase of multiple cultures from diverse backgrounds. This demonstrative fact will extend to the professional community as well. It is logical to assume companies that open their doors to this growing talent pool will prosper while those that do not will languish.

The lesson is simple. Talented people make a great team. Talented people make a great company able to better see opportunity, create more profitable relationships, make smarter deals and build more successful ventures. REAP is the nation’s largest talent resource for multicultural professionals. REAP exists because the commercial real estate industry's professional ranks are less than 1% minority at management levels—less than 1,000 people of color in an industry with over 125,000 professionals. During its short existence, REAP has increased that minority cohort by 10%—by spotlighting a talent pool that was always there, but previously unacknowledged. REAP was launched in Washington (1998); Atlanta (2001); New York City (2006); Chicago (2009); Los Angeles (2011); Cleveland (2012); Columbus (2014); Dallas (2015); and Kansas City (2017). Over 1,000 talented professionals have graduated from REAP with 300+ placements in some of the most successful CRE firms. We hope that you will take advantage of this innovative program and contribute to its success.

Why You Should Support Project REAP

Why REAP Needs Your Support and How Your Support Benefits You

1. Follow the money. REAP alumni have saved their employers money on commercial lease deals, made their employers money on lease deals, found their employers development sites, enhanced the bottom line of income-producing properties, maximized the sales proceeds from asset dispositions, and financed the development and acquisition deals of real estate owners.

2. Follow the leaders. Of the estimated 1000 REAP graduates produced since the program’s inception, a number have been hired by the real estate operations of preeminent corporations and institutions in the U.S.—industry icons such as Walmart, Citibank, Cushman &Wakefield, CBRE, Simon Property Group, Tiffany & Company, The Howard Hughes Corp., Belk Department Stores, NewYork State Common Retirement Fund, The Rappaport Companies, MetLife, Westfield and McDonald’s Corp.

3. Enhance team creativity. Economists and researchers tell us that the problem-solving, deal-making and predictive capabilities of organizations are enhanced by talent with diverse perspectives, skill sets and cultural filters. REAP candidates are CPAs, attorneys, marketing professionals, sales reps and other professionals pursuing career transitions.

4. Enjoy national recognition. REAP sponsors are featured in REAP’s newsletters, marketing materials, classes and events—favorable publicity and image-branding from association with the nation’s leading diversity initiative focused on the commercial real estate industry. Whether your support is provided as national or local program sponsorship, you can promote your organization’s endorsement of equality.

5. Follow the demographics (again). Economic demographers, retailers, politicians, pension fund investors, urban planners and other thought leaders and policy-makers understand that America’s mi- norities are not minor, and they are on track to become important majorities in the nation. In short, REAP is an opportunity to be on the cutting edge of the leading edge of demographic change.

6. Lead by example. Talent, that indispensable resource needed in every industry and profession, that essential human capital whether raw or refined, knows no barriers of ethnicity, gender, age or nationality. Leading organizations in other sectors such as the law, healthcare, investment banking, and the media and hotel industries have recognized the benefit of diversifying “the ponds where they fish for and cultivate talent.” Real estate organizations that mimic the diversity practices of other industries will be better positioned to lead global real estate markets in the 21st century.

Some Words From Our Alumni… REAP ATLANTA 2017 REAP ATLANTA 2017 Project REAP (Atlanta) was an amazing opportunity where I utilized direct access to leading commercial real estate practitioners, trade groups, and university programming...a unique opportunity. I recommend REAP because there is a high ROI on your social capital and personal development as a professional already in CRE or new to the industry.

REAP NEW YORK 2016 REAP is an asset I leveraged for entrepreneurial advancement in the commercial real estate industry. The education and networks I developed have made me feel even more confident and secure in my day-to-day business dealings. Indeed, REAP provides you with the tools needed to succeed in any sector of the real estate industry.

REAP DALLAS 2015 REAP built the foundation for my commercial real estate career. I was working in the industry before the program, but REAP helped me to realize that brokerage was my path. While the entrepreneurial aspect of brokerage can seem daunting, the exposure the REAP instructors provided gave me the confidence to make the leap. The education and specifically the networking I gained through REAP directly translated into my current role. REAP has truly transformed my career.

REAP DC 2014 It was great to have instructors from the entire spectrum of commercial real estate. They were friendly, very knowledgeable and open to our questions. No two classes were the same, and being able to receive honest information from industry veterans, who have all done things differently, was a testament to REAP’s curriculum development.

REAP LA 2014 The access to the corporate giants was awesome as well as the association memberships. I liked the insight from industry leaders and access to a network of people. It opened my eyes to the field of commercial real estate and I am gratefl for it. I also loved the perks that came with the program, such as memberships to ULI and ICSC.

REAP NY 2013 I enjoyed everything about the program including my colleagues, the instructors, the alumni and the administrators of the program. I thought the networking sessions were great and allowed us to connect with the instructors and other professionals.
