Featured in our 22nd season are the Chamber and Concert Choirs of the University of Akron, Brian Wentzel, Director of Music and organist at First Lutheran Church in Lorain, Ohio, Singers Companye (Akron’s premier chamber choir), the Baldwin-Wallace Men’s Chorus, the Falls River Brass Quintet and the Stow Heritage Ringers, a new addition to our concert series. Attendance and support for these programs has increased through time. We hope you will join us for these concerts and continue to support the efforts of the Parish Arts Committee to bring quality sacred music to the Akron area. Falls River Brass Quintet with Organ “From Baroque to Contemporary”

Sunday, March 29, 2020, 4pM

The Falls River Brass Quintet, initially known as the Mill Street Brass Quintet has been performing for nearly thirty years. They have performed for Stan Hywet Madrigal Dinners and at area churches for weddings, Christmas, Easter and special services, as well as for Stark State College graduation ceremonies. The Quintet will play selections for brass alone and several pieces with organ.

Director: Dr. Marie L. Bucoy-CalavanThe University of Akron Concert and Chamber Choir inspire and impress audiences both regionally and internationally, presenting choral music of all styles, from all time periods. Their concert consists of selections discussing humankind’s constant yearn to connect, whether it be to connect to God, with a love interest, connect to an overall meaning, or to connect with a community. The choirs will be performing works by Jonathan Dove, Knut Nystedt, Johann Sebastian Bach, and more.

Singers Companye Christmas Concert“making SpiritS Bright”

Sunday, deceMber 8, 2019, 4pM Artistic Director: Dr. Samuel Gordon Singers Companye is back again this year! Hear what Cleveland Classical refers to as “mastery and quality of sound!” The Irish Times (Dublin) hailed them “a superb American choir.” After their performance at The National Gallery of Art, The Washington Post lauded their “singing of unfailingly beautiful tone and complete charm.” You won’t want to miss this very joyous musical invitation to step right into the holiday spirit. Akron’s fabulous chamber choir will offer the best of the season, including carols from America’s folk traditions, along with brilliant arrangements of traditional Christmas music from around the world. Join in the celebration and make your spirits bright!

Brian Wentzel Organist“treaSureS - old and new”

Sunday, nOveMber 17, 2019, 4pM Brian Wentzel is Director of Music at First Lutheran Church in Lorain. He is an active performer in the Cleveland area, singing professionally with Apollo’s Singers and Quire Cleveland and regularly playing organ recitals and hymn festivals. He has degrees in organ performance, sacred music, mathematics, and philosophy and is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists (their highest certification). He is a published composer and author. Brian’s recital will feature treasures of the organ repertoire from past and present.

Baldwin-Wallace Men’s Chorus “the Joy oF muSiC”

Sunday, February 23, 2020, 4 pM Directed by Frank Bianchi The BW men’s chorus is an offering of the Community Music School and is open to men from throughout the Greater Cleveland community including BW faculty, staff and students. This collaborative effort seeks to bring outstanding male chorus singing to Northeast Ohio. The group has performed to standing room only audiences, has collaborated in concert with several outstanding music organizations and has received rave reviews from throughout the Greater Cleveland Community. The Chorus will perform an eclectic program of sacred and secular choral music by contemporary living composers and written specifically for the TTBB choir.

Stow Heritage Ringers Handbell Ensemble“a Bronze VoiCe”

Artistic Director: Sherri L. StofferStow Heritage Ringers Handbell Ensemble has been entertaining audiences with the beauty and artistry of English Handbell ringing since its inception in 1996. This 15-member ensemble performs with the majority of direction coming from behind the tables to maintain a more personal connection with their audiences. Performance repertoire includes original compositions, arrangements and transcriptions from classical to contemporary music, both secular and sacred. The ensemble performs on 6-octaves of Malmark handbells and 7-octaves of Malmark ChoirChimes®.
