About IIST

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST)is a Deemed to be University, established by the Departmentof Space, Government of India, with the backing of the IndianSpace Research Organization (ISR0). Started in 2007, it is the

rst space university in Asia and only the third in the world.

Led by luminaries like Former President, Bharat RatnaDr All Abdul Kalam as Chancellor and former Director of theVikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Padma Bhushan Dr B NSuresh as Former Director, IIST and former Director of theSpace Application Center, Ahmedabad, Dr K. O ur march to be a developed Nation, a leader in all sheers ofhuman activity , has to be based on advances in science andtechnology across the country. Such kind of advances happenthrough innovative minds. IIST has started its annual Astronomyand Technology fesitival- Conscientia in 2009 with a view to unravelthe talents and to enhance the knowledge of such innovative minds. In a short period of over 6 years, Conscientia has gained

momentum and is now one of the important technical events inthe country. The subject content of the technical programmesensure that they are up to date not outmoded or obsolete andeffectively ful lling the technological requirements of the country.Outstanding scientists from all over the country contribute to theprocess. Our aim to make it an event of an international standardis taking shape through the untiring efforts of our enthusiasticand dedicated faculty, staff and motivated students. Workshops,Seminars, colloquia, and a multitude of activities enrich the fest.

Conscientia -2014 spread over 4-days is entirely managed byIIST students with a two-tier team structure. The core committeeconsists of 35 members who overlook all the aspects and activitiesof Conscientia. A team of over 200 coordinators and organiserswork in sync to execute and implement the splendid spectaclecalled Conscientia. My appreciation and thanks to the entire team

of Conscientia committee, coordinators and organisers for theirefforts to make it success and I wish all the best. I take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped usdirectly or indirectly in making this event happen.

C onscientia 2014 is a Technical Festival organized bystudents of IIST, to bring together Science and Technologystudents from various institutes. During the four days of thefestival, some of the brightest youngsters from across thenation would compete with each other for prizes in some verychallenging technical competitions. These students would alsobe addressed by outstanding scientists from India and abroad.Such student events are supported by many Industries andBusiness houses because of the opportunity to associate withbright students who are going to be the leaders in science and

Presenting Conscientia 2014T he application of fundamental principles to aparticular situation requires an additional setof capacities, both that involved in deducing fromthe universal and general fundamental principlesmore speci c principles, with more immediateapplication to speci c types of situation, and thatinvolved in deriving from both of these principlesthe particular practical judgments about what is tobe done here and now or in some particular set ofcircumstances which may someday be, but is notyet, here and now. To these capacities the nameConscientia is applied.

Conscientia is the Annual Technical andAstronomy Festival of IIST offering variouschallenging events in different elds of engineeringand science including aerospace engineeringelectronics, computer science, mechanicalengineering, robotics etc.

Conscentia 2009, the rst edition was anintra-college festival where the students from both

rst and second year participated. Since then,Conscientia has grown into one of the largestand most loved technical festivals in India. Withworkshops organised by well-known entities andtalks by reputed personalities like APJ AbdulKalam, who is also the chancellor of IIST, ProfJV Narlikar and Prof Yash Pal, Conscientia issomething you absolutely dont want to miss.

A footfall of more than 10000 students from allthe corners of the country is expected, with a largenumber of them staying in the campus. Sponsorshave been bene ted by advertising their productsacross the campus. Previous sponsors includeUBI, SBI, Jet Airways, Technopark, Flipkart.com toname a few. MechamorphosisMechanical Engineering related events, like contraptions,assembly-disassembly, junkyard wars and amphibot racing areincluded in this section. The footfall is enormous due to generalpopularity of the events.

AparimitAll astronomy related events of Conscientia come under this

category. Being Indias premier space technology institute givesus an advantage not found elsewhere. Astronomy quizzes, postermaking, night sky watching sessions, and star spotting competitionsmake Conscientia nights very lively.

Bot in the ActRobotics events during Conscientia receive great footfall, often thehighest. Participants and spectators both arrive in great numbers.Robo wars is a very sought after event where the technical prowessof many institutes and students are at display.

KaleidoscopeThese events, not particularly related to technology, require greatscienti c reasoning abilities and knowledge of fundamental scienti cconcepts. Since the themes are very general, participation is high.

Business-technology quiz and sci- short story writing competitionalso come under this category.

VihangAerospace engineering, another stronghold of the institute has itsevents under this category. Apart from the professional RC Airplanecompetition, interesting events for enthusiastic participants areorganized and tutorials are provided.

ParipathEvents from the domain of electronics and electrical engineeringare organized in Paripath. Circuit debugging, logic circuit designingand problems in embedded circuits are the prime focus.

Philosophiae NaturalisSince technology is incomplete without research in pure sciences,here the focus is on encouraging talents in pure Mathematics,Physics and Scienti c Computation. Participation is high,particularly from schools due to general nature of the category.

CyberiaOnline events, where participation from all over the country is seen,come under this category. Webbed, the famous online treasurehunt is among the best in India. Online chain quiz, programming,hacking and stock market simulation also come under this category.

WorkshopsVarious workshops (from the elds of astronomy, computing,robotics and aerospace) are organized that see participation froma large number of students staying in the campus and outside,which is ideal for the publicity of your products and brands.

The Title Sponsor will have its name, logo and link of its website alongwith a 100 word description of the company on the website of Conscientia2014.
