    About the Seminar

Womens Studies (WS) is an academic arm ofwomens movement which analyze the discourse ontext and context of inequalities. It is an intellectualagent to change women from an object of knowledgeinto a subject capable of appropriating knowledge.

Womens Studies has been developed more thanfive decades ago to tackle the inequalities anddisparities in the society. It is particularly interested inexamining the specific ways in which some groups areadvanced and others still at the disadvantaged state.Womens Studies as an Academic Discipline poseschallenges than opportunities. It has many challengesfrom the established mainstream disciplines andknowledge.

The discipline has to fight against the establishedsocial construct of gender, power relations andintellectual ideologies.

The womens movement began to effect socialtransformation, but they have been subject to increasingbacklash from conservative forces that resist suchchanges. Hence the studies should focus on practicalneeds of women and nations socio-economic andpolitical needs.
