I share this to encourage everyone who’s mom is still living to surprise your mother by doing something beyond the ordinary for this special day. If your mom like mine is now in heaven let’s take this day to give God praise for who He is and for her faith, life, and time here on earth. This weekend may Jesus bless all that we do in thanksgiving to Him and in honor or memory of our precious mother’s. FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Sunday, May 10, 2020 at 11:00am

Virtual Worship

Sermon Topic: “Praise the Lord, O My Soul!”

Sermon text: Psalm 146:1-10

As we prepare to receive God’s Word and celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday, I would like you to pause and

name three mothers whom you highly and greatly respect. Secondly, when you think of these three mothers how

would you describe their faith and relationship to the Lord? In their spiritual walk – are or were (if they are

deceased) they active in their worship and praise of God? It wouldn’t surprise me to know that all three mothers

whom you selected love to worship and praise the Lord.

The sermon this Sunday invites us to take inventory of our worship and praise of God – not based on what we

have done (good or bad) or how we feel about self or others. To be an active worshipper and one who praises the

Lord is to have our faith and focus on who God is and what He has done for humanity from creation to the

crucifixion of His Son and our Savior Jesus. Join us this Sunday as we follow our Christian Mother’s and the

Psalmist who said; “I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” (Psalm 146:2

NIV) Oh by the way please share the three names you came up with.

First Reading: Acts 6:1–9; 7:2a, 51–60 (Stephen chosen, the first martyr)

Epistle Reading: 1 Peter 2:2–10 (A living stone and a holy people)

Holy Gospel: John 14:1–14 (I am the way, the truth, and the life.)

Greetings to all and Happy Mother’s Day! This Sunday, May 10th will be my 1st Mother’s Day without my mom. I will miss calling her. In recent years on Mother’s Day my mom would say, “Is today Mother’s Day, you are the only one of my children to call and wish me a Happy Mother’s Day.” After a couple of years of this my siblings and I discovered that because of her Alzheimer’s this is what she would tell each of us. I share this to encourage everyone who’s mom is still living to surprise your mother by doing something beyond the ordinary for this special day. Drive-in Mother’s Day Worship and Holy Communion

This Sunday, May 10, 2020 join us at 10:00am for drive-in worship and Holy Communion. All

parishioners are asked to park in the back-parking lot, remain in your vehicles (this allows us to

practice social distancing) and tune your car FM radio to 88.5 to hear me and others live, as we

share in worship prior to the consecration and distribution of the Holy Communion. Being able

to worship together by way of the radio is the surprise I mention last Sunday during the virtual

announcements on YouTube. Below you will find additional information for Sunday:

• The Men’s Club will give all Mother’s a special gift.

• Communion will be distributed at the end of worship as you stop on the exit road to

leave the church grounds. Keep the communion cup/s to be disposed of by you.

• You may bring your tithes and offering to give.

• Only leave your vehicles for emergencies.

• Communion will be served until 11:00am.

• If you have any questions before Sunday contact Pastor Wiggins.

GOD – FAMILY – EDUCATION

Your life has served as a testimony to your love for these 3 values. Each day you have grown and shared that love:

In GOD With FAMILY

Through EDUCATION Isaiah 66:13 (NIV) “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you;”

This verse shows how a mother’s love is a reflection of GOD’s love. We have truly been blessed because as with God’s love,

yours has never forsaken us. For everything that we are today.

Our mother’s love has shown us the way.

Happy Mother’s Day with love Pamela, Douglas, Laurie,

Sharon and Angela

SPLC Helping Those Who Hurt During COVID-19

As I was preparing to write a personal

check earlier this week to Lutheran

Social Services of Jacksonville,

because my heart over recent days

has been convicted to help those

who are hurting due to COVID-19, Mr.

Moses Bronson called me and asked if SPLC had a special fund to help people

who are hurting. I told him that we didn't have a specific fund for COVID-19

people who are hurting, but I would talk to the leaders in my weekly ZOOM

meeting to see what we might do. Below are the results of our meeting.

SPLC will do two things:

1. From our regular operating mission and ministry budget we will give

$600.00 to Clara White Mission. This mission provides daily meals to the

homeless and hungry in Jacksonville.

2. We will ask members and friends who are able to give a special donation

to SPLC that will be given to Lutheran Social Services (LSS) of

Jacksonville. LSS has five major programs operating to serve those hurting

and in need. The program areas are Hunger Relief, Refugee Services,

HIV/AIDS Care, Career & Financial Planning and Money

Management. For more information see this link (LSS). Deadline for giving

will be May 15, 2020. Checks may be mailed or delivered to St. Paul

Lutheran Church, 2730 Edgewood Ave. West, Jacksonville, FL 32209,

earmarked “LSS.”

The bible tells us in Romans 12:13, "Share with the Lord's people who are in

need. Practice hospitality." May God continue to bless us as we strive to be a

blessing to others in this pandemic. If you have any questions please let me

know. Thanks for your generosity. Pastor Wiggins

Confirmation Class Resumes For our confirmation students DaShaun Berry, Nyah Brooks, Jason B. Marley

and Devin Terry classes will resume tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, 2020 via

ZOOM at 1:00pm. Please keep our confirmation students and parents in your

prayers as we reengage the faith formation journey for these teenagers who

face daily challenges that many of us as adults were not confronted with in

our bygone days.
