FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 11:00am

Virtual Worship

Sermon Topic: “I’m Free” Sermon Text: Romans 7:7-13 and 21-25

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to

death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Romans 7:24-25a NIV

Given all that we face in this present-day moment, the pandemic, social unrest due to racism and

our own personal issues and challenges we often yearn or long for peace and freedom to escape

and not be bothered with the problems of life. While we cannot escape having problems, God

has given us a way to have true peace and freedom in the midst of life’s challenges.

Join us this Sunday, as we spend time with the Apostle Paul who shares the Word of God, and

from personal experience how Jesus invites us to experience peace and freedom that can only be

found inside our relationship with Him. In this life we often chase after things and people of this

world to fulfill and satisfy that which was designed by God to only be made whole and complete

in connection to Him. I look forward to being with you Sunday!

Old Testament Reading: Jeremiah 28:5–9 (Jeremiah condemns Hananiah for preaching peace while

God has exiled most of the people to Babylon.) Epistle Reading: Romans 7:1–13 (The purpose of the Law is to show the gravity of our sin.)

Holy Gospel: Matthew 10: 34–42 (Jesus warns that following Him must take precedence over every relationship.)

Summer greetings brothers and sisters-in-Christ! Last Saturday, we officially entered the

season of summer. While the sun rays under the Florida sunshine at times can be quite

oppressive, it is always my hope that we as the people of God will remember that we are

positioned to enjoy God’s rays of S-U-N and His S-O-N! We need both to survive and thrive in

this world. When the sun rays or life in general becomes overwhelming or oppressive – let us

remember the benefits of living in and under God’s S-O-N rays. Through Jesus we receive

God’s rays of love, forgiveness, mercy, hope, redemption, providence and eternal salvation

shinning to bring us that which only the Lord can give. As we prepare to close out June and enter

July, let us do so faith focused upon Jesus – God’s gift to us.

Online Sunday 11:00am virtual worship to hear an encouraging Word from God.

On Sunday, June 21, at 10:00am in the church back parking we had our monthly

drive-in worship experience. Worshippers were able to sit comfortably in their vehicles

to worship, pray and hear God’s Word together while practicing social distancing. After service members lined up in their cars

as they prepared to leave the church grounds and received the sacrament of Holy Communion touched and distributed only by the pastor. Also, special gifts were provided by Youth and Worship

Ministries to our awesome SPLC fathers.

Racism and the Church

– What can we do?

At this unparallel time in our nation we find ourselves

fighting the Pandemic of COVID-19 and the roots of

racism that brought about the murder of George

Floyd, Ahmaud Arbrey and Breonna Taylor and so

many others over the generations and centuries of this nation.

It is my hope that The Church, the Body of Christ, especially the White evangelical church in

all denominations will finally rise up and be the voice of reason and truth to give biblical

guidance to an ugliness that for to long has been coddle by their pastors and

congregations. If the “White” church in America had not historically embraced slavery, Jim

Crow laws and white supremacy and said unequivocally this is not right, things would be

totally different today. I invite you to see some of the statements against racism that have

been written by our National Church body the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

President Matthew Harrison and others. To visit click on this link (LCMS-racism). May God

continue to bless our nation and people as we all work to overcome this sickness that has

lasted to long. Pastor Wiggins
