Did You Know … that of the 1,070 member cities ofthe Texas Municipal League, 70% have populations of less
than 5,000. This is one of the reasons Texas Parks andWildlife developed the Small Cities grants program which helpedus with the latest Parks expansion. That and an active and capableParks Dept. Speaking of…if you haven’t been by the (now)McDonald Park on Dorrance and Pender after dark, you need to.It’s like a fairyland. Beautiful and peaceful. Thanks toJoe McCann, Parks Dept. and Public Works for makingit all come together. It is beautiful.
Did You Know … that long time MeadowsPlace resident Pilar Villanueva has been chosen as
one of the Top 10 nurses in Houston. There are over26,000 eligible for this honor. You really have to besomething special to receive this award. This isbittersweet for her and her family though as she has beendiagnosed with cancer and is having to step down. Ourcongratulations and best wishes to her and her family.
M. Cohlmia-Baldwin wants us to know that even thoughMeadows Place is no longer recycling glass, there is a place closeby to do that. It is Sugar Land Recycling on 90A & Gillingham. That’s just across from Schlumberger. Speaking of recycling, let’snot forget to take advantage of the City’s recycling efforts. It notonly benefits the environment, it helps offset the cost of local
garbage pickup!
Did You Know … there have been many calls ofconcern regarding scooters zipping around in
dangerous areas and in a dangerous manner. Parents, please remind your little scooter riders that they will lose a battlewith a car, pickup or SUV and remind them that they are supposedto be following traffic laws if they are in the street. Thanks.
Did You Know … Meadows Place is one ofthe few cities in the area that still participate in
the DARE program. A big round of applause forMayor McGrath and Chief Picket for keeping thiswonderful program at Meadows Elementary. Oh, andthanks to Sgt. Kirsten Lang and Officer Myra Valasquez fortheir heartfelt duties as our “Dare Officers”.
Did You Know … we have a new andimproved Web Site? It is fantastic. A special
thanks to Charles Kulhankek for his work on thesite. It’s attractive, easy to use and very informative. Be sure tocheck it out at www.cityofmeadowsplace.org. Oh, talk about aninvolved neighbor, Charles was just appointed to the MeadowsPlace Planning and Zoning Commission as an alternate member. The P&Z is going to be VERY busy for the next few weeks. Thanks again Charles.
