We are not in a Good State: Mind

S Studies show that in the last decade, mental illness in the U.S. has increased by fifty percent; over a quarter of all Americans have a mental disorder.

S Reuters news service recently reported that over 168 million Europeans suffer from mental diseases, and the U.S.

S CDC /Centers for Disease Control claims that over 10 million Americans a year contemplate or plan to commit suicide.

We are not in a Good State: Mind

S • 42,000 deaths a year occur related to psychiatric drugs, how many cures? This is about 3 or 4 years old data.

S • 9 of 13 school shooters were on or withdrawing from psychiatric drugs

S • 90% of children who visit a psychiatrist seeking help end up with a drug prescription

S • 8 million children are diagnosed with ADHD, a controversial disorder

S • 20 million children around the world are on some type of psychiatric drug

S • 1 in 6 pregnant women are diagnosed with a mental disorder and put on medication; exposing babies to these horrible drugs while their still in the womb.

A story to begin with

S There was a woman who had a son who became blind at an early age. Mother visited a saint. Someone whose supplications is accepted (mustajab al-d’awah)

S So when the mother requested the saint at that time the state of servitude (‘ubudiyyah) had overcome him and so, with much humbleness, he said, ‘I do not have the ability.’

The woman insisted and Khawaja Ahmad Jam answered the same. The exchange continued three to four times

Page 9: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

A story to begin with

S and when he saw that the woman was not accepting what he was saying, he stood up saying, ‘This work is that of Sayyiduna ‘Isa (Jesus Christ) he would cure the blind and the lepers. As to me, I don’t have the ability.’

S The shaykh had only walked a little when it was revealed to him through inspiration (ilham):‘Who are you? Who is ‘Isa (Jesus) and who is Musa (Moses)? Turn around and wipe your hand over his face. You are not able to cure and nor is ‘Isa. It is We, the Divine Authority Who do it (mami kunyam).’

Page 10: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

A story to begin with

S On hearing this, Khawaja Ahmad Jam turned around and saying mami kunyam, mami kunyam wiped his hands over the boy’s face and he was cured by the Grace of God.

After narrating this story, one of the knower of Allah said, “Foolish people may think that he is saying mami kunyamfrom himself. This is not, however, his speech, is but the speech of the Almighty. When one hears a beautiful poem, then one repeats it and takes pleasure from it. Likewise, he was repeating the Almighty’s word mami kunyam on account of the pleasure of that ilham.”

Bismillah & We Need to Think

S We need to think and think through to extract every bit of wisdom that we can extract as to why, Shaykh Fadhlallainstructed us particularly to address more on health and well-being in relation to this centre / gathering place.

S “Shaykh Fadhlalla is fully updated on your news. Shaykhnahad hoped that your Centre would be offering activities both of learning and other pursuits that could be useful in areas of health, nutrition and generally uplifting and promoting the well being of those around you.” ~ AliyaKhanum

Page 12: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Message from Shaykh

Fadhlalla Haeri (Oct 27/28)

S Essentially there are three levels of health we need to care for -

S One is our body… it has to do with nutrition, diet, exercise and all physical intake including, air, water, and other things we ingest.

S The second level is mental hygiene.. clear thoughts, good thoughts, good talk, and pure heart.

Page 13: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Message from Shaykh

Fadhlalla Haeri

S The third and most important level of health is purity at heart.

S The light of the soul is dimmed or completely veiled with a heart full of fear, hatred and anger.

S Once the body is clear of toxins and the mind is sharp and alert, and the heart is pure, then the serious challenges to humanity begins.

Page 14: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Serious flight is only after we

graduate from this level

S How to now live your divine nature, the sacred soul in your heart? The purpose of life on earth is to practice this.

S From there on, physical death becomes unimportant, you have already tasted the eternal nature of your soul. (end of message)

S First level to graduate from is the gross level and higher

freedom is attainable only when we free ourselves with

right balance.

Page 15: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Are you aware of any model teacher or

spiritual authority who is weak on

health except in advanced age?

S You can hardly find any because serious spiritual progress pre-requisite that we are wise when it comes to our body, what intake goes into it

S Our metal / emotional body that affects the physical

S Our spiritual body that needs its own nourishment

S The subject of spiritual healing encompasses all of it.

Page 16: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

This Age

S In this age and time and land – we need to be particularly careful because mindless profit making mentality has driven humanity to madness

S To the extent of poisoning his own kind

S And we need not to go into every detail of it but we are

aware of all the poisons we are being fed

S And this is a reflection of our inner reality to the outer

world. Zahir must always be a reflection of Batin.

Page 17: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Aarshi NagarThe Outside Mirroring The Inside

S Fruit, looks beautiful from outside – but poison

inside

S Well is that not how human beings are out there

S Buildings looks beautiful from outside – but void

of true and deep peace inside among the

dwellers

S Zahir is reflecting the Batin

S External world is mirroring what is going on in the

Internal World

Page 18: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Spiritual Healing takes into account the

Alam ul-Ghayb or Unseen World or Batin

S Every imbalance of our physical body has its root into the more

subtler body and imbalance that is introduced in it.

S For example if no proper nutrition is given to the emotional

body it feels fatigued, lack of interest and eventually depression

kicks in. If situation continues it can become severe and

chronic.

S According to the mystical point of view there is one chief root, which can be called a common cause, from which all diseases are derived, and that is disorder of rhythm. For example: the upset or disorder of the nerves is stated by scientists to be the chief origin of all of the mental diseases.

Page 19: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Example using the heart / qalb

S The term “heart” has different and multi-level connotations in

the Islamic tradition. It is not simply the organ of emotions,

“feelings” and desires, or decisions and opinions, but goes to

encompass the soul, knowledge, bravery and more. When

purified it is the seat of the intellect, i.e. the ray of the

Divine within the creatures.

S This is why it is called the “true essence of a human being” (Al-

Jurjani), containing “all levels of inner being” (al-Hakeem al-

Tirmidhi), and for the Prophets (pbut) it is the place of

revelation.

Page 20: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Example using the heart / qalb

S At first the “heart” (qalb) is something unstable, unreliable,

easily changing. In short it can either be sick or sound, dead

or alive, due to its quality, faith and certainty and due to the

person's actions.

S Concerning God-consciousness, the Prophet said, while

pointing to his heart:

S “God consciousness is right here" (al-taqwā hāhunā) – Holy

Prophet said pointing to the heart

Page 21: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Example using the heart / qalb

S And as an unstable organ, it is continually influenced and

turned by - and eventually inspired and re-turned to - Allah s w t

Most High:

S { Allah intervenes between man and his heart } 8-24

Page 22: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Example using the heart / qalb

S “Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh which, if it be

sound, all the body is sound and which, if it be diseased, all of

it is diseased. Truly it is the heart.”

S Imam Ali said: “The disease of the heart is worse than the

disease of the body.”

Quran has many references of “diseased heart” referring to

spiritual disease:

S "Then do not be soft in speech, lest in whose heart is a disease

should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable

manner." [Al-Qur'an 33:32]

Page 23: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Diseases of the Heart

S The knowers of Allah said, “The root of all sins is hardness of

heart (qasáwat al-qalb)”

S “Do not let length of time harden your hearts as were hardened

the hearts of those before you.” (57:16)

S “But those whose breasts expand to unbelief, on them is the

wrath from God.” (16:106)

S Blindness of heart that is unable to see the of truth. Quran

declares: “For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but

blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.” (22:46)

Page 24: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Healing Recommended by the Physicians

of the Heart

S Before going into healing, let us understand why healing the

Heart to make it pure, sound and wholesome is necessary.

S It is the Goal of goals

S { The day on which property will not avail, nor sons; except him

who comes to Allah with a sound heart (qalbeen saleem).} (26-

88/89)

Page 25: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Healing Recommended by the Physicians

of the Heart

S “The Prophets (a.s.) are (among other functions which they

have) the doctors of (the diseases of) the hearts.” – Imam al-

Ghazali

S Awliya Allah are the spiritual inheritors of the Prophets and they

continue to impart their function as physician and healers of the

heart, which if cured – everything is cured, which if pure,

success on the Day of Judgment is guaranteed, by Allah’s

command (26:88-89)

Page 26: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Healing Recommended by the Physicians

of the Heart

S It is said that a certain man complained to the Honorable

Prophet, about the hardness Question of his heart, when he

replied, “stroke the head of an orphan, and give him something

to eat.”

S The same complaint was once made to Abu Daw'ud, who said,

“Visit the sick, go to funerals, and visit graves.”

S Undoubtedly, hearts get rusted like metal. So the people asked,

“How can they [hearts] be cleaned?” The Prophet replied, “To

remember death in abundance and to recite the Holy Quran.”

Page 27: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Healing Recommended by the Physicians

of the Heart

S Quran also give us remedy / medicine for a tranquil, peaceful

heart:

S { For without doubt in the remembrance (i.e. in the invocation &

recitation of the name) of Allah do hearts find comfort.} (13-28)

Page 28: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

An Healing Episode of Jesus Christ

S Then Jesus went to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of

the Decapolis. There some people brought to him a man who

was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged him to place

his hand on the man.

S After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his

fingers into the man's ears. Then he spit and touched the

man's tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh

said: "Ephphatha!". At this, the man's ears were opened, his

tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.

- Gospel of Mark, 7

Page 29: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

An Healing Episode of Jesus Christ

S What Christ invoked in Aramaic is still invoked by the Spiritual

Healers, specially Sufi Healers who heals in the footsteps of

the message bearers of God.

S Ephphatha (ef'-a-tha, ef-a'-tha) is equivalent to Ya Fattah - one

of Allah's name, El-Fattah /al-Fattah, the Opener.

S Inna Fatahna laka Fathan Mubina. Truly We have opened out to you a manifest opening. - 48:1

S Nasrum mina Llahi, wa Fathun Qarib. Help is from Allah, and Opening (is always) Near. 61:13

Page 30: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

All are given some capacity to heal

S Hazrat Inayat Khan in his book Healing and the Mind World

wrote: "Consciously or unconsciously every being is capable of

healing himself or others. This instinct is inborn in insects,

birds, and beasts, as well as in man. All these find their own

medicine and heal themselves and each other in various ways.

In ancient days the doctors and healers learned much from

animals about the treatment of disease.

S This shows that natural intuition has manifested in the lower

creation as well as in the higher."

Page 31: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

This is When Healing Occur

Aliya B. Haeri, Psychologist said

S Healing can occur when we are prepared to face, accept, and then work through the emotional issues which are connected with the physical illness. We can also turn inward for healing by accessing that place of the “silence of one’s being”. One’s inmost silence, a place of wholeness and beyond limitations that is free from disease, is reached in deep states of dhikr (the remembrance of God) or meditation. It is accessed in those moments when losing oneself utterly in prayer for the healing of a loved one or oneself, where one is in complete self-surrender. This radical shift of consciousness can bring about a dramatic physical change leading to spontaneous healing and the sudden disappearance of symptoms. Illness, then, can be a window through which we come to discover and know our indwelling wholeness, our soul, and be grateful to our illness which has returned us to ourselves.

Page 32: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Our Own Voice & Healing

S "The voice has all the magnetism which an instrument lacks; for voice is nature's ideal instrument, upon which all the other instruments of the world are modeled.” ~ Hazrat Inayat Khan

S Our voice, the human voice, can be used as a tool for self-awareness, which is the foundational mindset to heal oneself.

S With proper training, you can use your voice as a "sonic tool" to vibrationally activate, heal, resonate/harmonize body, mind and spirit.

Page 33: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Our Own Voice & Healing

S Human voice can change state of consciousness almost instantaneously. It balances hemispheres of the brain, re-wires neural nets, and changes the vibratory pattern of the etheric, emotional, mental, and bioelectric bodies.

S Here is an elegant Secret:

S The way we use our voice is a clear indicator of our self-esteem.

Page 34: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Our Own Voice & Healing

S Changing our voice, its tone can change the whole way of expressing ourselves in the world - and how the world sees us!

S One’s entire history is recorded in every cell of one’s body: when you speak the truth to your body you can change your life.

S Remember that in post-eternity the body will speak the truth and you will be witness, before that reality comes, may we speak the truth to our body:

S Allah speaks: That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn. ~ 36:65

Page 35: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Sound Psychology: The Human Voice in Energetic Healing

S In "Healing Sounds," by Jonathan Goldman, he states: "From a physiological viewpoint, vocal harmonics creates changes in the heart beat, respiration and brainwaves of the reciter."

S When we sigh, groan, hum or sing, we are toning.

S Laeh Maggie Garfield, in her book "Sound Medicine," writes: "Toning is a system of healing that utilizes

vowel sounds to alter vibrations in every molecule in the body.”

Page 36: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Physiology of Vibration & Human Voice / Chanting

S The immune system which includes the thymus gland, lymph nodes, bone marrow, spleen, tonsils, adenoids, appendix, Peyer's Patches are all connected and these system can be affected positive by sound and vibration.

S For example the Thymus glandplays a key role in the immunological defense system, stimulating production of white blood cells that fight disease and infection. The thymus gland is

fairly large at birth and continues to grow until adolescence, when it begins to shrink.

During the first few weeks of life, T-lymphocytes created in the thymus migrate to the blood stream and colonize lymph nodes through the body. These later begin to manufacture powerful antibodies vital for immunity.

Page 37: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Physiology of Vibration & Human Voice / Chanting

S Thymus being very adjacent to the lungs and also heart, the sound which are produced from within has direct vibratory effect and stimulates this very organ.

S This possibly is one of the exoteric (zahiri) explanation of the mechanism of healing through boosting this vital organ responsible for immune system.

Page 38: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Stimulating bodily systems with Vibration

S Example of useful sounds that are particularly beneficial to the body is a clean ”A” or “O” sound which will make the chest, sternum and neck vibrate.

S Vibrations in the sternum will stimulate the immune system because the oscillations boost the thymus which controls the production of the body’s key defence cells called T

lymphocytes.

S Some researchers even believe that different infections and cancers in old people are closely linked to the decline in T lymphocyte production.

S Hence, if you were to stimulate the thymus in some way e.g. through prayer or song, it is sure to be advantageous.

Page 39: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Stimulating bodily systems with Vibration

S Vibrations in the throat will stimulate another important gland, the thyroid. This gland produces hormones that regulate metabolism and thus the body’s energy consumption and body weight.

S In addition, it also assists in strengthening heart function.

S Apart from the fact that you can stimulate this gland to some extent with vibrations, a combination of generating sounds and movement of the neck (as done sometime in Dhikr) can increase blood flow to the neck and stimulating the benefit.

Page 40: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Stimulating bodily systems with Vibration

S Another outcome of vibrations in the throat and the resulting vagusnerve stimulation is the immediate reduction in blood pressure and number of heartbeats.

S People with heart conditions or patients who have suffered a heart attack can combine breathing exercises with sound generation as a simple preventive or therapeutic method.

S Another interesting significance of breathing while using your voice is simply that the breathing frequency is lowered and the natural breath becomes longer. The same happens when you hum or sing or chat, which causes a feeling of happiness and well-being.

Page 41: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Sound Psychology: Toning

S The 3 basic sounds are the long basic vowel sounds of A, I and U. These are what the Sufis call the universal harmonic constants and they are used in all mystic paths that utilise sound. Master these sounds and you will ascend the stairway to heaven. ~ ShaykhHakim Abu Abdullah GhulamMoinuddin

S Toning is defined as 'to make sound with an elongated vowel for an extended period.’

S Toning oxygenates the body, deepens breathing, relaxes musles and stimulates the whole body.

S Regular toning helps to restore health to the mind, body and spirit.

Page 42: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Quranic Recitation as the Most Powerful Tool for Toning

S Effects of sound waves generated during Qur’anic recitation are possibly mediated by two exoteric mechanisms:

S Firstly, through the ears sound waves are converted into electrical stimuli that activate the Auditory area of the brain that in turn stimulates release of chemicals and messengers that have healing properties.

S Secondly, the sound waves especially at frequencies ranging from 50 – 800 db pass through the body and in the process they are transduced by the body tissues and cells leading to a change in the vibratory frequency of the cells and generation of electrical stimuli.

Page 43: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Brain stimulated by Words and their corresponding Vibration /Sounds

S While learning the Quran, the careful attention to listening and pronunciation of verses stimulates an area of the brain located in the temporal lobe.

S The temporal lobe is also where the hippocampus is located, which is the memory consolidation center.

S It’s also the brain region activated for processing of musical sounds such as the case when the Quran is recited.

Page 44: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Great Effects with Tiny Stimulation

S Tongue touches the walls of the oral (mouth) cavity while we speak.

S Recently scientists have found out that there are very sensitive receptors underneath the mucosal lining of the oral cavity specially the hard palate.

S Theses receptors are stimulated

when even lightly pressed by the tongue. It has been documented that this pressure at various points is responsible for initiating the swallowing reflex and other motor movements when we have food in the mouth cavity.

Page 45: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Great Effects with Tiny Stimulation

S For a moment say the word “ALLAH” and notice your tongue.

S The tip of the tongue gently presses against a spot on hard palate in the mid line just above the back of the gums of the upper front teeth (incisors). Pressure on this spot stimulates the release of signals from mechanoreceptors embedded in the mucosa

covering the hard palate.

Page 46: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Great Effects with Tiny Stimulation

S Scientific research has pointed out towards existence of very sensitive ‘Mechanoreceptors’ in the oral cavity including the hard palate.

S Signals generated through pressure at this ‘magic spot’ are transmitted to centers in the brain; what these signals do is not yet known / discovered.

S Notice the tongue movement and

touch on upper mouth when reciting the following sacred formula:

S La ilaha illallah (best dhikr and best tranquilizer of heart)

S Lahaula wala quwata illa Billahi-L-Aliyyil-Adhim (cure of 99 diseases)

S Allahu Allah (elevator of ranks)

Page 47: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

The Sound of the Qur’an

S Prophet (s) always stressed reading Qur’an loudly and not silently by saying: “The comparison between a silent reader and a recitor is like a bottle of perfume when it is closed and when it is opened”.

S In one of the few medical studies conducted on listening to the recitation of Holy Qur’an Dr. Ahmed E. Kadi and Associates (Cairo), have shown a reduction in blood

pressure, heart rate, and smooth muscle relaxation in Muslims as well as non-Muslims.

S The Qur’an itself recommend reciting it slowly (with pauses) for complete absorption of its effects. That means that if we recite very fast then the frequencies can overlap and mingle up resulting in a vibratory chaos thus rendering the beneficial effects useless.

Page 48: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Spiritual Tradition of Islam and Healing

S Islamic spiritual tradition is rich in the practice of spiritual healing.

From earlier Biblical and Quranic apostles to Muhammad and then

later passed down to spiritual masters - spiritual healing has

always been part of golden heritage and lineage of the tradition.

S The basic principle in Islamic Spiriutal Healing is that the True

Healer is God Himself, the healers only act as mediators.

S Some say that the vocation of spiritual healing is a special gift and cannot be taught or learned like other science. The secret of spiritual healing resides in the absence of the self when confronted with the all-pervading Healing Power.

Page 49: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Spiritual Tradition of Islam and Healing

S Sufi Spiritual healing generally incorporates holy energy work,

herbal and natural remedies belonging to ancient wisdom and

other healing methods particularly used by Prophet

Muhammad himself and also by his companions.

S 'Abd al-Malik Ibn 'Umayr reported that the Prophet said that “Sūrah al-Fātihah is a healing for every sickness.” (Tirmīdhī, Dārimi and Bayhaqi)

Page 50: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Spiritual Tradition of Islam and Healing

Narrated Abū Saīd: Some of the companions of the Prophet went

on a journey until they reached some of the Arab tribes (at

night). They asked the latter to treat them as their guests but

they refused. The chief of that tribe was then bitten by a snake

(or stung by a scorpion) and they tried their best to treat him

but in vain.

Some of them said (to the others), “Nothing has benefited him, will

you go to the people who are spending the night here, maybe

some of them might possess something (that can cure).” They

went to the group of the companions (of the Prophet) and said,

“Our chief has been bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion)

and we have tried everything but he has not benefited.

Page 51: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Spiritual Tradition of Islam and Healing

Have you got anything (useful)?” One of them replied, “Yes, by

Allah! I can recite a Ruqya, but as you have refused to accept

us as your guests, I will not recite the Ruqya for you unless you

fix for us some wages for it.”

They agreed to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them then went

and recited (Sūrah al-Fātihah): All the praises are for the Lord

of the Worlds. He then blew with his breath over the chief who

was then healed as if he was released from shakles. He got up

and started walking, showing no signs of sickness. They paid

them what they agreed to pay.

Page 52: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Spiritual Tradition of Islam and Healing

They went to Allah’s Apostle and narrated the story. Allah’s

Apostle asked, “How did you come to know that Sūrah al-

Fātiha was recited as Ruqya?” Then he added, “You have done

the right thing. Divide (what you have earned) and assign a

share for me as well.”

Another Incident: Narrated Alaqah ibn Sahar at-Tamīmi: Alaqah

came to the Apostle of Allah and embraced Islam. He then

came back from him and passed some people who had a

lunatic fettered in chains. His people said: We are told that your

companion has brought much that is good.

Page 53: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Spiritual Tradition of Islam and Healing

Have you something with which you can cure him? I then recited

Sūrah al-Fātihah and he was cured. They gave me one

hundred sheep. I then came to the Apostle of Allah (peace be

upon him) and informed him of it. He asked: Did you say

anything other than that? I said: No. He said: Take it, for by my

life, some accept it for a worthless chain, but you have done so

for a genuine one.”

(Sunan Abū Daūd)

Page 54: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Spiritual Tradition of Islam and Healing

Isa (as) also said:

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that have faith on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do..." John 14:12

"Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils…," Matthew 10:8

Page 55: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Quran and Healing

Each and every prescribed Quranic verse has its unique healing property which differs from those of other verses. One of the major characteristics of sufi spiritual healing is the use of the healing properties of sacred verses of Quran. In the holy tradition, the Prophet Muahammad mentioned the healing properties of particular verses and sections (surah) of the Quran for different remedies.

Page 56: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Six Healing Verses

Healing in the language of Islam is known as shifa'. The following are called "Ayat Al-Shifa" or Six Verses Of Healing, used in Sufi Spiritual Healing:

1. Wayansurkum AAalayhim wayashfi sudoora qawmin mumineena. -Quran, Tauba 9:14

"And God shall heal the inner heart of the believers.“

2. Ya ayyuha alnnasu qad jaatkum mawAAithatun min rabbikum washifaonlima fee alssudoori wahudan warahmatun lilmumineena. - Yunus 10:57

"Mankind! there has come to you a guidance from your Lord and a healing for your hearts, and for those who believe a guidance and a mercy."

Page 57: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

Six Healing Verses

3. Yakhruju min butooniha sharabun mukhtalifun alwanuhu feehi shifaonlilnnasi.- Nahl 16:69

"There issues from within the bodies of the bee a drink of varying colors wherein is healing for mankind."

4. Wanunazzilu mina alqurani ma huwa shifaon warahmatunlilmumineena- Bani Israel 17:82

The El-Gilani Method

During the 1976-77 demonstrations at the Psychiatric Research Institute in Taif, Saudi Arabia, El-Sheikh Gilani invented and introduced a methodology that would help, and in many cases cure, those people suffering from mental disease, schizophrenia, psychosis, epilepsy, neurosis, etc.

EGM teaches that other than the physical body there is a non-physical body that has non-physical limbs, sense faculties, and a center called the qalb. The qalb is equal to the position of the heart in the physical body. When the physical body has a disorder the illness manifests as fever, pain, injuries or cancer, or paralysis. Similarly, the inner non-physical self has diseases that manifests as mental illnesses.

Page 60: Spiritual Healing: Intro to Healing & How Healing Works

The El-Gilani Method

EGM is Quranic Healing and Healing based on Invocation of Direct Divine Energy to Heal the Patient and is proven to be successful for patients as serious as brain dead.

Modern psychiatry based on Freudism is the worse crime ever committed against humanity, and it is the biggest fraud thrust upon mankind. These so-called psychiatrists pretend to practice the science of the soul, yet they deny the very existence of the soul and the Creator of the soul as well. They refuse to acknowledge the fact that there is a correlation between mental disease and deeds, morality, and belief.

EGM method acknowledge relation between mental and physical

99 Divine Qualities and Healing

S The Divine Names are the pointer to Divine Attributes and Qualities, the reflection of which is found everywhere including within us.

S If you study them carefully you will notice that there are some Names which are indicative of Divine Beauty (Jamal), others are indicative of Divine Majesty (Jalal) while rest are pointer to Transcendent Attributes. But all names are the Names of Perfection, of the Absolute.

S In a very enigmatic Sign of the Quran, Allah the Most Sublime Majesty is transmitting to us, "All that are in the heavens and on the earth entreat Him (in their needs). Every (moment of every) day, He is in a new manifestation (with all His Attributes and Names as the Divine Being).” ~ The Quran 55:29

Balance

S Health depends upon the balance between activity and repose in the five senses: sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch; and every sense, in the normal condition of health, must be able to express itself and to respond.

S The senses need more time for repose than for activity. Therefore the mystics go into seclusion in order to give a chance of repose to the senses

Practical Healing

In order to develop healing power one must regulate and control the senses by regulating their activity and repose; and this, done with a spiritual thought, converts power of mind into divine power.

A person can heal with power of mind alone, but the results will be limited; but a person with divine power can obtain through it unlimited results.

Energy, Tiredness and Consciousness

Tiredness is due to three causes: loss of energy, which is the chief reason, and besides this excess of activity of mind and of body. The activities that specially cause tiredness are worry, fear, anxiety, and pain.

There is, however, one mental cause that is less obvious, and that is the thought of being tired. Among a hundred cases of tired people you will find ninety cases of this particular kind of tiredness. When a person thinks, 'I am tired', the very thought creates the feeling of tiredness in support of the thought.

Energy, Tiredness and Consciousness

In truth, there is no doubt that every kind of activity must take away some energy, more or less. But by one's thought one increases the loss; by preserving the energy and using it economically one saves it to a great extent.

Those who consider God to be far away in heaven keep away from Him, but those who realize the meaning of the teaching in the Bible that 'we live and move and have our being in God' feel Him at all times by their side.

Energy, Tiredness and Consciousness

If consciousness of wealth makes one feel rich, and if consciousness of strength makes one feel strong, how much stronger and richer should he feel who is really God-conscious!

Allah looks at our Heart,

so let us beautify it

Indeed

Allah does

not look at

your

appearance

or form,

but rather Allah

looks at your Heart.

And while saying

this with his blessed

finger he pointed to

his chest to indicate

this is where the

Heart is. (Muslim)
