I BELIEVE…

‘I believe,’ is a phrase often used in different contexts

to mean different things,

though it is a phrase with a deep religious sense.

We say ‘I believe in you’ or ‘please believe in me’

meaning trust in one another.

The Creed that we pray Is an expression of our faith,

a summary of all we believe in.

The first three parts deal with

the three persons of the Trinity,

and the last one about the Church,

touching everything in salvation history

from creation to eternity.

In the early Church, Creed was called

the symbol of faith.

It was memorized and recited

as a code word or a password.

The Creed was not written on paper or parchment

but on the hearts of believers.

Though no more a secret word,

we are persuaded to hold them in our hearts.

In the context of the mass,

the Creed we profess is an affirmation of our faith

in the presence of God and one another.

The words of the Creed strengthen our identity

and our hope for the future.

As we face doubts and difficulties, we need to seek

assurance from the Creed and the faith family,

opening our hearts to the

working of the Holy Spirit…

ANNUAL ECUMENICAL LENTEN WORSHIP SERVICE will be this Sunday, March 19th, at 10:30am at the Presby-terian Church of the Siuslaw on Hwy. 101 near BiMart. Come pray and worship together with our brothers and sisters from other Christian denominations.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS AND SIMPLE SOUP SUPPERS: Join us on Fridays during Lent at 5:30pm In the church for Stations of the Cross and a meditation, followed by a soup supper.

ENCOUNTER OPPORTUNITY: We encounter Fernando in El Salvador where, despite a lack of economic opportunity, youth are pursuing their dreams of building businesses to better the lives of their families. How have you worked to better the lives of others this Lent? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

LENTEN FAITH-SHARING GROUP: Join us this Monday, March 20th, at 6:30pm in the church as we Heal Relationships in Lent with Pope Francis. Study guides are on the small table in the vestibule of the church. Any questions, call Susan Kirby 541-997-2218.

FIREWOOD DONATIONS NEEDED! Do you have leftover firewood? Wood that isn't being used? Consider donating it to the High School Youth Group! We will be holding a firewood sale over Memorial Day weekend to raise funds to attend the annual Steubenville NW Catholic Youth Conference. Also Needed: A dry space to keep wood donations un-til the end of May. Please talk to Renee LaCosse if you can help in any way.

ST. BENEDICT’S HOLY WEEK RETREAT begins Thursday, April 13th, with dinner and ends Easter Sunday, April 16th, at noon. Cost for the retreat is $125.00 for private room, $90.00 for double. Send $30.00 deposit to register: 56630 North Bank Rd, McKenzie Bridge, OR 97413. For more into, call 541-822-3572 or web: sblodge.opwest.org. Please let us know of special needs.

Question: What Is the Easter Duty?

Answer: Because of the central importance of Easter to the Christian faith, the Catholic Church requires that all Catholics who have made their First Communion receive the Holy Eucharist sometime during the Easter season, which lasts through Pentecost Sunday, 50 days after Easter. (They should also take part in the Sacra-ment of Penance before receiving this Easter com-munion.) This reception of the Eucharist is a visible sign of our faith and our participation in the Kingdom of God.

3RC’s - Thank you for your continued donations of empty refundable cans and bottles. If you need us to pick up your cans/bottles, please call us at 541-991-2541.
