~ Honoring Presence ~ Nurturing Spirit ~ Enriching the lives of all we serve~
SpiritSpeaks May-June, 2016
Volume 13 Issue 3
Dear Ones,
Summer is peeping round the corner and the year is steadily
advancing. At present I am enjoying late spring, especially
the bird choruses! They brighten my days and lighten my heart.
So where are we then in the seasons of our minds? Are our
minds open to the light and energy of summer? How will we
respond to its invitation to relax, recreate and play? Is summer
for many of us just more of the usual? Do we even notice seasonal
changes especially here in California? Nature needs change and so do we.
A good question to ask ourselves is what “season” does my mind like to hang out in mostly,
spring, summer, autumn or winter? Each one of us has a mental seasonal tendency. It is always
wonderful to discover what it is. When we do we easily see where we may need balance. The climate of
our minds is the one great aspect of our lives where we do have full control, if we so choose. Are you a
winter mind or a summer mind? Are you a spring mind or an autumn mind? Ask close friends and see if
they agree with your choice. Have fun with it! How does winter get along with another winter friend
and so on? It's just another way to get to know ourselves and others a little better. The more
self-knowledge we have the greater our lives can be.
As summer unfolds we as a community are moving forward into a new season too. Our way of
marketing ourselves with our new website, our new youth and family ministry and our new music
program are all heralds of the great, bright, energetic and fun ways to be in community. We are excited
about our new way forward and this is just the beginning of newness unfolding.
All the spiritual groups we are working with at present are seeking to discover the most spiritually
authentic way to be in our own communities and with each other. Our spiritual culture is changing and
we are excited to explore new possibilities of living impactful lives and thus impacting our local and
global communities too.
Our world right now needs all of us to be channels of new life and dynamic energy, having peaceful
minds, loving hearts and generous spirits. If ever there was a time to stop being a hostage to ego and
being a host to Spirit, surely it is now! "Insanity rules" would seem to be the appearance, but we know
that the turbulence and truculence in expression can be the birth pangs of something wonderful and
mighty to come. You and I and all spiritually unfolding truth students are called to facilitate in this
birthing process. The question is are we up for it? The answer is, YES WE ARE!
Again outside are the choruses of birds thrilling in song urged by the zestfulness of life. Flowers are
dancing in a light breeze and my rainbow windmill is constantly creating palates of fast changing colors.
Through the glass window I feel the electric dynamic of it all. I love the way nature is blessing me and
inviting me into its celebration. I love the gift of recognition. My garden is my garden every day,
always the same in its ability to make me smile and feel blessed and grateful! Always entertaining me!
In the face of it I can only choose to be happy and feel grateful, richly loved and cherished by the
Creator of it all! In these moments I feel I am adding to the uplifting energy on our plane; making a
happy difference. I wonder if you have similar experiences? So much good available to us and so little
recognition of it! Nature is saying right now: “Awake! Awake! Come out and play!” How many of us
are hearing the invitation? All scriptures are full of callings to rejoice and be glad! To sing and dance!

May June
1 How True is Your Word 5 God’s Highest Expression 8 The Intuitive Heart 12 My Life’s Imprint 15 Truth that Sets Us Free 19 A Sense of Belonging 22 What is Mine to Do? 26 Freedom from Discord
29 My Soul Sings Out!
To be of cheerful heart! The cheerful giver is applauded and in all things we are asked to give thanks! Well
in my experience only a glad heart can be truly grateful! Summer calls us into merriment and
light-heartedness. Do you laugh every day? Make it your business to do so. Again the scriptures tell us:
“Laughter is the best medicine.” Making someone else laugh is medicine for his/her soul.
A friend of mine gifted me with a subscription to “Livehappy” magazine. I smile as soon as I see it on
my desk! The energy of the magazine hugs me before I even open it. This edition shows Martin Seligman’s
five pillars upon which a flourishing happy life rests: “...positive emotions, engagement, good relationships,
meaning and purpose in life and accomplishment...well-being comes from engaging our strengths and
virtues (then) our lives are imbued with authenticity.” You and I are the only ones that can reduce our
suffering and increase our joy. NO ONE ELSE CAN DO IT FOR US. Do we want to is the question! When
do you feel most happy? Be in that space more often! The weather may change but our attitude doesn’t
have to change with it! Does it? One way to maintain lighter energy is to review everything from an energy
of gratitude. If we do, we will discover we can’t help but feel glad!
So summer asks the question, "Has the Happy You been fully revealed yet?" As spring leaves us it
reminds us to ask ourselves, "Is there more to my life that wants expression?" Are we ready to try
something different? Is it time for an adjustment and a new approach? Let's create a new life’s outlook and
commit to a happier way of being. We will be the happier and healthier for it and those around us will smile
more because of it. We are all happily empowered! Let us go happily and empower! Why? BECAUSE WE
CAN! Amaze yourselves Dear Ones! Amaze yourselves! You never fail to amaze me!
All your kind thoughts, all your affirming words, all your generous actions are making a great
difference in our world. Because of you life is lighter, the world is brighter and our human community can
breathe a little more deeply! May your summer be glorious and may you move through it in an engaged and
joyous way. Let your funny side show up. Smile often and play. Good times await you. Tell your mind
its summertime and let it shine!
With great appreciation and love,
Dr. Moira

“As you face your deepest struggles, you reach for your highest goal. As you bring to light,
heal, and release the deepest currents of negativity within you, you allow the energy of your
soul to move directly into, and to shape, the experiences and events of physical reality, and
thereby to accomplish unimpeded its tasks upon the Earth.” (Gary Zukav, “The Seat of the
Soul”)
Join Meditation Teacher Krista Magidson for a journey into soul. Using lessons from Gary
Zukav’s ground breaking book, “The Seat of the Soul,” meditation, and visioning you’ll remove
layers of negativity and old programing, and instead reveal your truest nature. You’ll also
discover the secrets of authentic empowerment, infusing your life with meaning and purpose.
You’ll leave each class feeling centered, relaxed, and filled with the spirit of joy. Join us.
At the 2016 Spiritual Living Convention in Salt Lake City, one of the keynote speakers was Don Hobbs. He introduced us to the book “The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth behind Extraordinary Results” by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. Even though it is recognized as a top business book, people are using the simple, powerful concepts to focus on what matters most in their personal lives. It is being shared with church & community groups. The principles are universal and easily transferred into every aspect of our lives. Myths and accepted ‘success’ beliefs are looked at more closely. One of the big surprises for me was to hear that it really takes 66 days to form new habits – not 21. Many ‘lies’ are ‘busted’ in this book. We are introduced to ‘THE 4 THIEVES’ Whatever you do, don’t let these four thieves hold you up: 1. Inability to say “no” 2. A fear of chaos or things left “undone” 3. Poor health habits 4. An environment (people and place) that don’t support your goals The message is to focus our energy on the BIG question “What’s the ONE Thing I can do, such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?” There are many diagrams to illustrate the pertinent points throughout the book and there is a supporting web-site from which you can download many of the templates recommended in the book.
It has great suggestions for simplifying your life and when you use the guides you increase the possibility of having more of what you really want. “YOU WANT LESS …AND YOU WANT MORE … Less undirected attention to the things that clutter our daily lives so we have space for more of what life has to offer and more of what we desire to live fulfilled lives. We CAN have both. ‘The One Thing” will guide you in ways that deliver extraordinary results in every area of your life: work, personal, family, and spiritual. It will encourage thinking about your 5 year goal – then breaking THAT down to your 1 year goal – then to your monthly, weekly, daily goals etc. It will get you to the point of knowing “WHAT YOUR ONE THING IS” and help you stay on track if you want real change in your life. FINAL THOUGHTS from one of the reviews. “Start now. Make sure every day you do what matters most. When you know what matters most, everything makes sense. When you don’t know what matters most, anything makes sense”. So, do something right now – read the book!

BOOK REPORT
By Rev. Cathie Sinfield
If you come to the Wednesday 11 a.m. service, you will see Pat Brown at the front desk ready to help you with anything you need. She started volunteering there over four years ago, and loves connecting with the people. She claims it is when you volunteer that you really feel involved with your Center and its members. Pat was born in Omaha, Nebraska. When she was 3 years old, her family moved to California, and she has lived all over the state; but she has lived in Redondo Beach for over 50 years-in the same house! Pat has 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Pat was a senior human resources manager at TRW for 35 years before retiring in 2000 in order to take care of her youngest granddaughter Madi. She loves being retired and finds herself so busy with family and activities, she often wonders how she had time to work! Pat was raised Episcopalian, and many years ago was introduced to this Center by her mother and stepfather. She loved it immediately, but just came each week to the service. Then, in 2000, she began volunteering and everything changed. She was connected; cared for this Center on a deeper level, and it really became her spiritual home. She started in hospitality and she volunteers for most all special events, including Hidden Treasures Yard Sale, Angel Tree Project, and you can find her at the front desk after 11:00 a.m. service, several Sundays a month.
Volunteer Profile
By Reverend Erin O’Donnell Stanlee
15
She has taken SOM classes with Dr. Moira, the ministers and others. Pat is an avid reader, and likes all metaphysical books. She is a member of a local book club which reads fiction and non-fiction. She enjoys movies, plays, and the Hollywood Bowl. She enjoys watching TV shows about history and is passionate about our country’s past, the Civil War, etc. She also enjoys British TV, such as Masterpiece Theater and shows about England and its dramatic background of Kings and Queens. She travels regularly to the Carolinas, visiting her many family members. She recently spent a lovely vacation in Hawaii with her daughter and two granddaughters. Her message to the congregation: Volunteer. Remember, it takes a village to run this church. All of you are so needed and will find your special place. This is your Spiritual home, and when you really start to care for it, you begin to know other volunteers and you forget yourself in your sacred service. We are so blessed to have Pat as a member here at the Center and as a member of our volunteer stewards who serve and give so generously of their time.

By Rev. Katherine McKinney “All Is Well” is an expression we often say or hear. When I really think about the phrase, “All is Well,” I remember the words to great hymn, “It Is Well With My Soul.”
At times in our lives we all find ourselves in a place that we don’t want to be. As long as we walk this earth in this body, we will confront challenges. As you may often hear in this teaching: “It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do about it, that is important,” that defines who you are, how successful you are, how happy you are. Not liking our circumstances can range from simply being irritated or bothered to devastating reactions to what we humans mark as really serious life events—diagnosis of disease, death of loved ones, financial calamity. How do we approach those times? How can we stop focusing on what has happened to us, is happening to us? How we deal with life is the process toward getting to, “All Is Well.” Ernest Holmes says that we must come recognize our Oneness, our sense of Unity with Spirit. And it is a process of revelation. What we can learn in this teaching, especially if we keep up our spiritual practices in a regular fashion, is that the length of time for that process can get shorter and shorter. Prayer is essential in bringing us to the idea that, “All Is Well.” The story of the man who wrote the song, “It Is Well With My Soul,” is one of the most challenging situations that life can offer. His name is Horatio Spafford. It’s too detailed a story of loss to recount here, but his story in the latter part of the 19
th
century is one of continued loss of Job-like proportions—his fortune, his children—all five—and so much more. At one point, he was crossing the Atlantic and found himself at the place where four of his children were lost at sea; feeling the loss profoundly, he penned the words to the hymn. The words chart a course from anguish to All is Well:
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul.”
If we consider, we can realize that complaining, being irritated—even being angry—at what has happened, doesn’t change anything for the better. How we respond is the cue for what happens next. The situation only changes when we respond to it in the way that gets you back to your spiritual equilibrium. In your spiritual practice, you can find your own words to speak at times of stress to achieve the belief and the feeling of All Is Well. When sorrows like sea billows roll, I know, I believe and I can say, “All is well with my soul.”

Queridos lectores,
a nuestras ideas creativas. Estas están disponibles en su totalidad siempre aquí y ahora, in-
spirándonos y alentándonos a liberarlas.
Reposemos sabiendo que somos libres de elegir cómo vivir nuestra vida y que el Poder Univer-
sal siempre responde a nuestros pensamientos, creencias y fe directamente e instantáneamente.

ECHOS FROM THE DEMONSTRATION
TABLE AND MORE
I am grateful to the Healing Ministry for
supporting me as I went through a medical crisis.
Thank you to the Redondo Beach Center for Spiritual Living for being
here at a time in my life when I didn’t know I needed your support. I
have changed for the better because of the Center.
I am grateful for this church helping me to understand that I can be how
I want to be. It’s taken me time to learn that I can hear myself and make
the choices to change.
DIVINE DINING 2016
Divine Diving is a unique fundraiser for the Center where our Spiritual family can come together for good food and good times. Looking for some events to take place May through October, 2016. How does "Divine Dining" happen? It first happens by letting people know that hosts are needed. The hosts decide on the meal or event, its location, and the number of guests attending. The time, effort, and money hosting an event is their contribution to the Center. Be-ing a contribution, the host’s expenses are a tax deduction. The event can be making a meal or having an event for four guests or having an event with 50 or more. For those interested in hosting, a sign-up sheet will be available. A mutually acceptable date is selected and once there are a couple of events "booked" the events will go to auction. Many times there are two or three co-hosts to help share the cost or the facilities. The auction is like a "silent auction" in that participants bid on the events. A program listing a description of the event and bid sheets are provided. The bidding is usually open for three weeks and the highest bidders attend the event. If there is a tie in the amount bid, the first to have bid is the winner. The money is paid to the Center and that is how the funds are raised. The price of the bid depends on the nature of the event. The hosts will want to have an event that entices people to bid. In the past bids have started between $20 and $100 and have gone as high as $150 per guest. If you want to treat your significant other or yourself, going out for a fine meal is pleasurable. You could easily spend $50 or more per person. So treat yourself to a Diving Dining event, have a great meal, and enjoy the company while supporting your Spiritual Center. Looking for a few good hosts now. Look for the sign-up sheet in the foyer or contact Marc Ruth, Divine Dining coordinator at [email protected] or on his mobile phone 310-819-2524 for more information.

Lake Arrowhead
Retreat
May 27-30, 2016
Theme: “Infinite Beginnings and Eternal Newness.” We will be contemplating how life begins at the dawn of every new day and in every now moment. We will have ample opportunity to step out of our history and leave the past where it belongs, behind us! Learning from our experiences we can make new
decisions and form a new perspective of our lives. We can choose to go forward unburdened by past mistakes and disappointments embracing the gifts of today and
the opportunities of tomorrow. We can create for ourselves “happy ever after” days to come. Lake Arrowheads invitation is always to come higher, draw aside, reflect on
blessings and be open in joy and gratitude to all the good that is now and yet to be and say “YES” to it!
Join us and be part of lifes great YES! Everyone comes down the mountain renewed, refreshed and reinvigorated! It is an awesome experience that impacts our lives,
warms our hearts and centers our minds. Our bodies too, get a chance to breathe fresh mountain air, walk, climb, run the tennis courts, stretch in yoga classes, dance with a genuine cowboy, swim in the pool and shop at the village outlets! O what fun it
is! Come play and pray with us we still have some places to fill.
See you up the mountain, Dr. Moira

Recipes Needed
If you have recipes you would like to share, please drop them off at the
front desk or mail them to the Center. We are in need of a lot more
recipes to make this a great cookbook. All recipes must be turned in by

Christmas. So go through your recipes, ask your family and friends for recipes. Feel free
to submit as many recipes as you like.
If there is a story that goes along with the recipe give us that as well. This is a great way to

Spiritual Mind Treatment By Rev. Louisa Gravelle
God is Love; he and she who lives in Love lives in God, and God in them.” 1John 4:16
I Am LOVE. So says the I Am that I Am which is Spirit. The Love that dwells within me is the
creative spark back of all Life. It is Spirit in action expressing through it’s creation. I unify with
God.
As I open my eyes, I witness unity, cooperation, oneness among friends, neighbors, and my com-
munity. I see the flowers bloom, the birds sing. I see nature gloriously express its truth: beauty
and abundance.
As I consciously align with Love and Law, my life opens to new vistas like petals to the sun. I
choose to be Love in action. I am grateful for love, for my family, friends, and community. God is
my Source. Releasing this word to the Law, I expect cheerful results.
And So It Is.

Practitioner Services Licensed Practitioners and Intern Practitioners are available for
prayer treatment consultation. A Practitioner is one who is trained
to do Spiritual Mind Treatment (prayer treatment) for clients.
The training of Practitioners is extensive, and is conducted over a
period of at least five years, including internship. Practitioners
and Intern Practitioners are governed by a Code of Ethics and are
under the supervision of the Pastor of the Church.
There is a fee charged for this service when performed by a
licensed Practitioner. Intern Practitioners do not charge a fee, as
this work is part of their professional training. Licensed Practi-
tioners charge a fee of $35 for a one-half hour treatment session.
Consult your individual practitioner for a fee schedule relative to
weekly or monthly sessions, or for house calls. It is important to
note that a Practitioner will never turn a client away because of
the client’s inability to pay the fee. In such a case, the
Practitioner will also treat the client to demonstrate abundance.
