IC Church Restoration

We are celebrating the Centennial of

Immaculate Conception Ukrainian

Catholic Parish. The cornerstone of our

first Church in Hamtramck was blessed

on December 25, 1913, and the building

was completed and blessed in 1914.

Therefore, it is fitting for us to cele-

brate this very important milestone

of our Ukrainian-America Community

in 2014.

To preserve Immaculate Conception

Ukrainian Catholic Church, its beauti-

ful icons, murals, paintings, and the

artistry of Mr. Mychajlo Dmytrenko is

the responsibility of our Parishioners

and our Detroit Ukrainian-American

community. Working together, we will

secure our beautiful Church for future

generations. Here they will be baptized, have their first

communion, have their marriage blessed, and receive their

final blessing at the time appointed by God.

At this time, we are reinitiating the fundraising cam-

paign for the Third Phase of the IC Church restoration

project. We ask you to once again be zealous and generous

in your donations. The estimated cost of this next phase is

$175,000. It is a significant cost. As was the case with the

first phase of this project, it is achievable if we all do our

part.

we ask you to consider making another effort, another

sacrifice, and help us restore our beautiful Church. This will

help to preserve a historic place of worship for future gener-

ations of Ukrainian-American families in the metropolitan

Detroit area.

"The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." Let’s hear it for moms ……!

The power of mom! She keeps the family together! And hold off on the chocolate and flowers, guys. So says America

Today. What mom wants is for the whole gang to go to church. True! A research survey lately finds Mothers' Day, after

Easter and Christmas, the third peak church attendance day. Moms indeed are true apostles.

Mom will always be number one because she sheltered us, under her heart for 9 months. She was the first to know us.

On these glorious days, spring blesses us with the whisper of growth. And the magic of ‘Mothering Sunday’ casts its

spell of tenderness and poignancy, that time of saluting and honoring the gift of motherhood, a time of family celebra-

tion, a time of gathering and a time to say two words: "Thank you!"

My own mom was and is a woman of prayer and hard work (12 children). Work and Prayer, Thet two are always tightly

intertwined. She is a simple country woman, who left school at the age of 13, who was gifted with a warm humanity

and a big heart, spilling over with wisdom, generosity and the common touch. She taught me five important lessons in

life. Like Holy Communion, they continue to do their fertile work:

1. There is no one above you or below you, but God (above you).

2. If you are a carpenter, be the best in town.

3. No matter what struggle or heartbreak is going on in your life, it is not you. You are only the observer.

4. Whatever door you enter in, you bring something precious and exciting.

5. No matter how far you travel from me, the light will always be on to welcome you home.

These are the values I still stand on with pride.

The mother who dreams your dreams with you and then one day lets your hand go, setting you free to live your own

‘one wild and precious life’. Yes, ‘Mother’ the one who rocks the cradle and gives us our place in the world, the one

who sees with different eyes, who sees beyond your bad judgments and flaws and the one who puts the truth back in our

eyes.

To all Mothers and Mothers to be, happy Mother's Day !
