*nt+oductionWelcome to the battle for the future of the Earf Sphere! The document you are reading at this very moment is hopefully the first book in a long line about the Noah role playing universe; the events that both have and will

ape itself and the destinies of its inhabitants. This is my first serious attempt at webpublishing this story which has been an ongoing and constantly evolving pro"ect of minnce the early #$$%s.

&nderwater 'ombat &nit( N.).*.+. otherwise known as Noah for short is an alternate universe inspired by many different works of science fiction including a lalection of ,apanese animated films; all set to work with the ,ekton -eta Pluroleplaying game system.

This document in your hands was created to provide you with as much information and structure as possible to allow you to run a gaming campaign with your playet in this world of giant robots wars revolutions and much more.. While at the same time still giving you "ust enough freedom and inspiration to allow you to craft this worlur own preferences where and when needed.

To play you will need a copy of the ,ekton -etarole playing book the ,ekton -eta Pluadvanced technical manual and understand how both of them work foarters. -n addition you may also want to have some other source material from any of the other ,ektonpublications or other related materials that you can find on the interveral suggested resources will be referred to throughout this document in case you need to epand on something in particular.

///0a+nin1 a2out P+intin1 thi Document///This book was created with the idea in mind that being in black and white will help in limiting any difficulty in printing

ultiple copies for your own personal use by not re/uiring you to use up epensive inks for heavy color graphics. &nfortunately evenhen the best of intentions are to make things simple it can lead to only more complications later down the road.

So at this point - would like to apologi0e for any problems that you may or may not have in printing copies for your own use. -m a bit old fashion when it comes to preferring the feel of a 1deadtree copy2 in my hands over a digital format on a glowing screen andould like to enable my fellow 3uddites to have the same level of indulgence.

4i+t off5 a pe+onal noteThis document represents the sum total of the gaming universe that - have run for my different gaming groups over the last 4% or so years. 5roducing this book has

abor of love for not "ust my own creativity but also an attempt at sharing those same feelings and devotion as a fan of roleplaying games anime and giant mecha with my ers.

*n no 6ay did * et fo+th to 6+ite a pe+fect 6o+ld5 no+ hould uch e7pectation 2e placed upon thi document.- am sure there will be more than a few flaws or mistakes that - will have made while writing this book since putting this book together was a mostly lone endeavor

en again that is part of the creative license that comes with writing anything in the realm of science fiction. 'onsistency is always a large burden to maintain especially whegic likes to constantly try to stick its beak into every little thing. So therefore any mistakes that may or may not eist will be retroconned erased edited denied covered upbated or simply amended in any future supplements if there are ever going to be any.

8lo5 the othe+ 1oal of thi p+o9ect 6a 6a to ho6 6hat can 2e done 6hen one put thei+ mind to it.- have tried a few times before to write this book but have constantly ran up against obstacles that had either stopped me from progressing further or have distracted

ogether from completion. Some of these were placed in my own path by myself which is unfortunately a part of the eternal curse of being a perfectionist.)ne of the biggest obstacles in /uestion was the attempt to redesign everything during the process of writing it all down; few things are as difficult as reinventing th

heel while you are rolling down the road at high speed.

Note to 2oth Playe+ and G,*s you may have guessed by now Noah was heavily influenced by the ,apanese anime 1Mobile Suit undam,2 in addition to many other resources.

This series has been popular with mecha fans for over three decades now and it is only natural that some small or a large part of its influence will be noticeablewith in the scope of the Noah universe itself. &nderstandably some may /uestion why this is the case.7irst off this was done to give the players and 89s a sense of familiarity for the world events and the people involved.

-f both sides of the gaming screen are ac/uainted and comfortable with the material presented to them their en"oyment will be enhanced so that everyone ismore likely to have an gratifying gaming eperience together.

Second at the same time as things may seem to be well known to them there is still more than plenty of room to throw in new developmentsmaterial concepts ideas etc to spice up every thing. *nyone reading this document should be warned to not simply assume anything is as they suspect. *s the

popular word of advice used in the military goes 8'#en "ou assume an"t#ing, "ou onl" 'ind up making an ASS out of 0 and ME.:This is one of the many reasons why Noah takes place in an entirely different universe of its own great effort was made to distant itself from what

may be familiar as possible while still offering many new elements to interact with.)ne difference that is brought up by others is that all characters with in Noah are anthropomorphic animals called collectively 1*nthrokind2 or in

some other circles known as 17urries.2 With this detail alone it gives them a much different perspective on their world and ours than we would normally have.-f you feel that you are not comfortable with or do not desire to use such 1funny talking animals2 in your game you are more than free to work around it. Thereare no bonuses or other rules that come into play due to whatever species a character may be. -n most cases it is simply a reflection of their personalities. This detail was added to the game to make it more uni/ue than its original sources of inspiration.

*lso for your entertainment there are a few "okes planted here and there to liven up the mood a little. So chances are if you see something that takesyou a bit by surprise then more than likely it was done on purpose.

Note to Playe+-f you are reading this as preparation for an upcoming game being run by your regular or irregular 89 please be careful to not read over any

restricted material which may spoil your gaming eperience or may give you an advantage over your 89 in how they are running their game.:oing so will unbalance everything in the game and bring about a large amount of unnecessary stress and friction with in your group which will

undoubtedly ruin the shared gaming eperience over all. ole playing is about having fun not solely about winning. -f you are still unsure about the point - amtrying to make here - suggest you go and read the comic 8;nig#ts of t#e -inner Table:and see how some of the characters there handle themselves and theirrole playing habits.

Note to G,This document was meant to help you create new worlds for your players to interact in. -t is both a guide and a suggestion.-f you feel as though some parts of it may not be comfortable for you to run 1as is2 then you are given the liberty to change some and=or all details

if you feel it necessary. Such as if you feel that running the characters as 1funny talking animals2 is not your thing then there is very little to stop you from

running them as all being human.)n the other hand a lot of work has gone into keeping a certain balance in the game mechanics such as in the rules or even the stats of the givenvehicles or characters. *s a warning altering some of these details may cause problems such as tilting the scale in favor of or against your players. Thoseinvolved should feel challenged by the situations they are placed in and since not all players are e/ually e/uipped or motivated in the same ways it is the roleof the 89 to keep a watchful eye on such things.

    8ll * ak i that depite any chan1e that you make5 that you 6ill till 1ie c+edit 6he+e c+edit i due to 2oth me a the 6+ite+ of thi

O3 Oe+ie6The Sol star system consists of the star Sol and the astronomical ob"ects gravitationally bound in orbit around it all of which formed from the collapse of a giant

olecular cloud approimately H.A billion years ago. The vast ma"ority of the systemFs mass is in the 84J class star 1Sol2 itself at the center of the Sol Systeme many ob"ects that orbit around Sol most of the mass is contained within nine relatively solitary planets whose orbits are almost circular and lie within a nearly flat disc of tliptic plane.

Since the earliest time that its inhabitants have been aware of it the Sol system has been broken down into several 10ones2 based upon varying systems ofassifications. The most current system of division in use is based upon the level of habitation and eploitation in both current and proposed forms.

    *nne+ -one

The 1-nner Gone2 is composed of the systemFs star Sol and its two innermost planets 9ercury and Jenus. 6oth planets have etreme conditiothat make them very unsuitable for coloni0ation by *nthrokind and there are no known large or small scale plans for eploration in the near fu*bout the only bit of civili0ation that could be found in this 0one would be the few automated remote monitoring stations that serve as scientif

platforms directed at the parent star for research and as early warning systems for any solar flare activity.

    *nha2ited -one

This 0one represents the current etent of space eploration habitation and epansion for *nthrokind; composed of both the 1Earfhere2 and Sol34 which will be described in more detail in their own dedicated sections.

Even though 9ars is included in this 0one there are no future plans for coloni0ation due to the current conditions of this planet.ven though it is theoretically possible to 1terraform2 9ars to better suit the purposes of coloni0ation many have speculated that early on in theove to epand out further into the Sol system that the epense of coloni0ing in a gravity well was already complicated enough without

nsidering the environmental engineering that would be re/uired. Though a more cynical opinion and perhaps a little closer to the truth is thatose in power may have saw it being easier to eert control over a large number of nearby artificial colonies than a much more distant planet.

'eou+ce -one5ast the planet 9ars is the domain of the +arvester 7leets and other smaller scale mining operations. 7rom the methane deposits o

SaturnFs moon Titan to the rich clouds and moons of ,upiter to the rocky ring of the *steroid belts; a near constant river of processedmaterials flows to the Earf Sphere to feed its ever demanding hunger for resources. 7ew if any colonies eist this far out into space; as percharter the +arvester 7leets are allowed to manage its own administration and facilities in echange for its neutrality and few have ever/uestioned this. *s a result little information is available about life this far from Sol.

Oute+ -oneThe rest of the Sol system has remained mostly uneplored with very few venturing much further than Saturn due to the

treme distances and great risks involved. Jery little is known about what is out there or if there is anything to be discovered or eplored.

The discovery of comet B 94 later to be known as 1the +arbinger 'omet2 by :r. :rakeKn is the first signal of the end of this golden age.Shortly after its discovery it is reali0ed that the previously unknown comet is on an impact orbit with Earf and is a prime candidate forcausing an Etinction 3evel Event. *lmost immediately )NE begins preparations to deal with the new threat mobili0ing every ship in itsgrowing fleet as every possible option available is considered. The optimism that was the hallmark of the golden age slowly erodes into fear and panic as all resources that were originally devoted tospreading life out to the stars is now brought to defend it against the approaching comet.

    !!% G8 ( $&$ 8D )

The first attempt is made to stop the comet as the gathered fleet of the )NE space forces converge upon the +arbinger before it enters theasteroid belt. Several nuclear weapons are used against it becoming the largest use of nuclear arms in EarfFs history with little or nodifference being made. -nitial intelligence gathered prior to the attack was proven wrong as the cometFs composition is shown to be much

denser than pure dust and ice as with more traditional comets. The )NES7 fleet hurries home after the failed attack to set up the new line ofdefense against the +arbinger comet.

    !!E G8 ( $&$% 8D )

5rior to its approach into the Earf Sphere the )NES7 launches yet another attack upon the +arbinger comet using a much greater amount of force against it thanbefore including the use of a hastily constructed massive solar mirror array. The second attack at first appears to have been effective but hope turned to fear once mas the cometFs core breaks down into a series of smaller masses still being drawn in by the gravity of Earf. Some of the new core fragments are vapori0ed or pushedaway while still in space but the last seven remnants of the +arbinger comet continue on to impact with the surface of Earf. The resulting devastation is wide spreaimpacting remnants hit with the power of several millions of megatons totally altering the landscape and atmosphere of the planet.

The first effects of the impact are the numerous tsunamis that are caused by two of the comet cores crashing into EarfFs ice caps instantly vapori0ing the large icemasses causing the sea levels to rise over A% meters and reaching deep inland. These impacts would later fuel the year long 1*ge of Storms2 which created severhypercanes that buffeted all of the continents. The other five comet cores struck in North *merica South *merica *frica and the 9iddle East throwing millions tons of debris into the atmosphere bringing about a nuclear winter not to mention the destruction of several countries.

)ver the following year it is estimated that B billion have perished in the impact and the following cataclysmic events. The scattered remnants of the )NE forcesstruggle to reestablish order and lines of infrastructure to reunite any survivors. -t is decided that it would be best to move as many as possible into space so as to al

the Earf to heal itself and limiting the Earf population to "ust H billion. )NE officially declares the end of the 8* calender with %%A# 8* becoming %%*T of the new 1*fter Tragedy2 calender system.

*t first the forced migration is slow because of the lingering confusion then each nation forms its own lottery to determine who will be forced to relocate. Some clthat a 1brain drain2 is occurring since many of the early waves of migration were mostly made up of educated and skilled individuals leaving behind the poor andilliterate to seemingly die on Earf. -n nearly all of the less developed countries riots rage on while different factions fought for either the right to leave Earf or agaithe forced eodus. Eventually order was established through military intervention by )NE forces and the forced migration into space was begrudgingly accepted areality. 9eanwhile colony construction takes on a whole new fevered pitch as many new colonies are almost /uite literally 1built over night.2 *t the same time new

population controls are enforced to keep what limited colony space available as colony construction is resumed in earnest.

Themessage was repeated during the following five minutes. 6efore the end of the seventh repeat of the message the first nuclear missiles had "ust hit their targets amothe +erd groups at 3. Then the chaos began.

)NE attempted to put up a line of defense but unfortunately the element of surprise was greatly utili0ed by the 'osmic +eavens as they set about to indiscriminateuse nuclear and chemical weapons upon the colonies. The high concentration of babel particles made communications difficult as all available forces were mustereand rescue operations began. -n the chaos the normal chain of command failed as several ship commanders took it upon themselves to not only defend the coloniestry to take the fight back to the 'osmic +eavens.

The fleets at 3# and 3H were launched to meet the attacking 'osmic +eaven fleets at 3 but were again caught by surprise when HC hours later another surprise attwas launched on the lightly defended colony herds at 3H. The herd ? colony group immediately surrendered without a shot being fired while the forces in the herd group attempted to make a stand and suffered high losses.

3ess than a week after the first attacks a third wave is sent against the main body of the )NE space fleets at the 5haros colony herd at 3# resulting in the completedestruction of all of the colony deuces. Not only are the same atrocities repeated with the blatant use of nuclear and chemical weapons but the new *vatar machinewere put to their full use and showed their full potential as several ace pilots make their names and reputations in the field of combat.-n addition several operations were attempted to engineer the forced deorbit of a colony deuce so as cause it to be dropped upon Earf. Three attempts were made wthe colony deuces 9adrid 3uembourg and 3ondon. The first two operations were thwarted when the fleets involved were intercepted by coordinated )NE forcesit was during the third operation the 1battle of 3ondon2 that a colony drop was successful when the remains of the colony deuce impacted into the Southern *fricacontinent even though it missed its original target of the )NE head/uarters in the northern region. -t was also during this operation that the 'osmic +eavens capturadmiral eisman and his flagship 1:evon.2 +eavily losses were sustained by both sides as hostilities eventually grind to a halt over the following two weeks of spofighting with little changed in the status or shape of the battle lines.

The fighting comes to a temporary stop as negotiations slowly open up to full talks representatives of )NE and the 'osmic +eavens attempt to bring about some foof 1peace2 after the unimaginable scale of destruction that was been wrought upon the Earf Sphere. The process goes back and forth as the situation is weighed by bsides. Eactly eight months to the start that the 1?% days of +ell2 the 'osmic +eavens commences a new series of offensive operations under the banner of the 1:emiurg7ront2 as its forces invade the planet Earf.

The first attack involved landing of forces to secure the )NE space ports at 6aikonur and then to spread out west and south to capture large swaths of territothroughout Europe and the 9iddle East as more units are brought in.

The second attack came in the form of several landings along along the west coast of North *merica to capture the military assets and then the food productiocenters located in the 9idwestern areas.

The third wave is composed of three separate landings of naval units in the *tlantic 5acific and -ndian oceans near the established 'osmic +eavens 0ones todisrupt all traffic and to systematically eliminate all )NE naval forces.

The fourth and final wave brought in larger mobile assets such as the construction machinery and mobile bases to begin the plundering of the EarfFs resourcesthe captured 0ones.

)ver the last two hundred years the )NE Navy have evolved from its original roots to its current form which can bemmed up in the phrase( 1)ne 7leet )ne 9ind.2 The current modern navy is based upon the concept of a network of smallerips working together as one larger vessel. Each fleet is built around a command cruiser or up to four command cruisers actingone which then controls the other cruisers or smaller classes of ships in their fleet as if they were simply an etension of theme ship. The networked fleet can sense all around it and react to any threat detected as a singular force. This allows for auch more affordable and modular naval force without having to invest in oversi0ed ships such as battleships that are nownsidered to be either relic dinosaurs or the pri0ed personal toys of e/ually dinosaur admirals.

Typical arrangement would be composed of one command cruiser of the *iom or *ugust class with two *rmorye to two *viary two to four 6ulwark and si or more 'utlass ships. Though this can be changed depending upon the missionsituation at hand. The only class of ship that does not participate in this cooperative action are submarines troop carriers and tender ships.

-n addition to its fleet of ships the Navy also maintains its own fleet of autonomous drones as its own air force like the *rmy.

Typical organi0ation of the navy( Space Nay # ON>SN

The youngest of all the )NE military branches the Space Navy was initially devoted to patrolling and being a first responsession to any emergency involving the orbital or lunar colonies; by being able to bring forth the necessary force to deal with any threatcarrying troops and personnel to the scene. Then slowly as the orbital populations grew a line of distrust and resentment began to formtween those administrations on Earf and the people living in space the function of the space forces slowly changed to pro"ect anways present reminder to those living amongst the stars that their lives were controlled by those on the ground.

This was momentarily put to the side when the +arbinger 'omet was discovered and the )NE council discovered eactlyw unprepared or unable it was to deal with the sudden threat to not only itself but to the future of *nthrokind as well. The eistingets lacked the abilities or the firepower needed; even when armed with nuclear weapons. *fter the +arbinger -mpact a new push was

ve the necessary support e/uipment bays 1moon pool 2 and defensive systems to carry out their dangerous function. *s the war went on some ships were built from the ground up to serve as a submersible pod carrier using t he samnstruction techni/ues used for the victor y ships of the second world war. -n essence a 6urro carrier is nothing more than a empty armored shell t o protect the cargo inside and hopefully can bring its load of submersible combat vehk home or to the net war 0one.

Either as a converted or purpose built ship the 6urro is a very vulnerable vessel most defensive armaments are installed as a second thought and none can take advantage of using a fleets control network to defend itselfmost formations the 6urros are often kept near the command vessels for protection. 6ut since they themselves are often targets for attack this often does not make the 6urrosF situation any easier.

=a++ied KehicleNormally most 6urros will have a do0en to even three do0en crab pots on board occasionally more can be crammed in if the situation re/uires it.The launching of which can be done in a very fast if not chaotic manner as all submersible pods are dumped out through the bottom of the ship in a series of chutes and /uickly dispersed. etrieving the pods after a bat

en a very long drawn out process and can take several hours.

*nte+:,echa 3inka1e 'an1e None of the systems on a 6urro class vessel are linked with those of another command and operation of the ship is done solely by its crew.

Oe+ie6The 'lipeus class is a small multifunction ship that can o perate in either littoral or deep water operations even deep inland via many rivers.

all /uiet and stealthy it is a very capable watercraft for many different types of missions ranging from insertion=recovery to reconnaissance and fleet defense. When large fleets need additional l ayers of defense many 'lipeus aressed into duty to form an outer layer around the fleet or even may serve as small packs of hunting ships to drive underwater or surface targets into range of the larger ships.

-n many cases several 'lipeus will be unmanned and remotely controlled by a command vessel to provide protection to a larger fleet or "ust for the flagship itself.
