W I L L I A M P E A C E T H E AT R ENow in its fourth season as part of William Peace University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and Bachelor of Arts Theatre program, William Peace Theatre and its professors empower students to pursue careers in the fine arts and theatre as independent, self-assessing artists. With a foundation built as part of the Peace College Theatre program, our productions and students have been nominated for various awards over the years, including: the Top Ten List by Spectator Magazine, multiple Raleigh News & Observer Top Ten Lists, Best Comic Actress by Roberts Reviews, consistently ranked and reviewed by the Independent Weekly. Additionally, we have been awarded countless grants to write and produce original pieces, including: Dreaming in Color written by students and alumni in conjunction with playwright Barbara Lebow; adaptation for the stage of Charles Dickens Dombey and Son by Dickens scholar Elliot Engel; Better Late Than Ever; On the Other Side; Far and True; and Tartuffe, the Rock Musical. Company members have gone on to New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Wilmington and other cities to pursue professional careers in theatre, film and television. WPU alumni have also gone on to study at schools like The Juilliard School, Harvard, American Academy of Dramatic Art and Virginia Commonwealth. Both the B.A. in Theatre and the B.F.A. in Musical Theatre are taught within the Theatre Department. This powerful synergy offers students specialized and focused training they need without bouncing between two different programs. Our teachers have vast professional and academic experience and continue to work in the professional theatre. Students benefit from decades’ of professional relationships with theatres, directors, casting agencies, agents, voice teachers, coaches, choreographers and directors in places like London, New York and Las Vegas. For information on enrolling in the William Peace Theatre Company, email [email protected] or schedule a tour by visiting us online or emailing [email protected].

MICHAEL BUSH is a visiting guest artist and director for William Peace University and this is his second production for William Peace Theatre. A native of Charlotte, NC, the

renowned, award-winning director is well-known for both On- and Off-Broadway productions. He resides outside of New York City with his husband, playwright Michael Aman. Bush’s most recent directorial effort, Other Desert Cities, opened at Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, NY in September and was his fifth production for the theatre. Earlier in February, he directed Tony® and Emmy Award-winning actress and singer, Leslie Uggams, at Bucks County Playhouse, in addition to directing Bikeman: A 9/11 Play by Thomas F. Flynn, based on his acclaimed book, at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center in NYC. Bush’s production of Patrick Barlow’s (author of the Broadway’s Tony®Award-winning 39 Steps) A Christmas Carol won the Times Union readers’ poll for Best Play Production in the Albany Capital region (2013). A theatre professional since the 1970s, Bush shows no sign of slowing down as he embarks on his newest adventure with the William Peace Theatre Company, while continuing other directorial ventures. In addition to directing, he is also an Artistic Associate with Amas Musical Theatre in NYC and is the former director of artistic production for the Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC). Bush was associated with MTC for more than 25 years, helping artistically guide more than 150 new plays and musicals, including the Tony® Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning Proof, Doubt, and the Tony® Award winning Love! Valour! Compassion! At MTC he most recently directed Based on A Totally True Story. Bush was also instrumental in the rebirth of the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s Cabaret & Performance Conference and served as its artistic director for eight years. Under his guidance, the conference developed more than 100 new evenings of “Cabaret Theatre” including [title of show] and The Story of My Life, both of which were produced on Broadway (2009 Tony Award for Best Regional Theatre). Mr. Bush directed Stormy Weather for the Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles and the Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia, and the New York Music Theater Festival (NYMF)

productions of The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde (2005) and Grammy Award-winning songwriter Marcus Hummon’s musicals Warrior (2006), and The Piper (2007). For the 2008 NYMF Festival he directed the Richard Rodgers Award-winning new musical, To Paint the Earth. During his tenure as producing artistic director at Charlotte Repertory Theatre in Charlotte, NC (2002-2004) he presented Hilary Swank in The Miracle Worker, Penny Fuller in The Glass Menagerie, and directed the 20th Anniversary production of Pump Boys and Dinettes. He also directed and co-wrote the book for the musical Let Me Sing, which was co-produced with George Street Playhouse in New Jersey and Charlotte Repertory Theatre. But that’s not all. Bush has worked at countless houses large and small and with a bevy of famous celebrities, actors, singers and other professionals throughout his career. With an enthusiasm and passion for teaching young actors and performers, Bush’s career also includes being the current artistic director for a New York City school program called “Leap Onstage.” Available in ten different high schools, the program annually teaches playwriting to approximately 500 students. Each spring, Mr. Bush also directs an evening of five of those plays, either On- or Off-Broadway. He has also been an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College (1994-2001) for their M.F.A. degree program. He is a proud member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
