Speech Communication

The word communication is used in a variety of ways. Communicate

comes from the Latin

communicare which means “to make common.”

•Communication requires understanding. People involved in communication must understand what they are saying and hearing.

* Consulting your mind on what to say with the effort to make it coherent and in line with what is being talked about; to scrutinize the deepest recesses of your working brain in search of what to say next.

3. Speech Communication Regulates Speech Itself

*You are gifted with the freedom to speak, but with this, is your duty and obligation to be selective and be appropriate with

the speech communication situation you are in.

4. Speech Communication Serves As an Important Factor in the Preservation on One’s Heritage

*Speech communication marks your identity as a person who belongs to a particular culture.

It is purposive. It involves interaction. It is transitory. It occurs in specific

settings. It is influenced by the

fields of experience of the speaker. It does not contain the

usual cues of writing.

Intrapersonal

Communicati

onThis refers to the

communication processthat operates within the

communicator. This ranges from simple

thinking, meditating, reflecting, or talking to

oneself.

Interpersonal Communicatio

nThis is a

transactional process of exchanging a message. This is between people.

This usually but not always, occurs a face to face. Dyadic and Small group communication belong to this type.

Level 1: Dyadic Communication

This is the basic form of speech communication. This

involves two parties at least one of them has a serious purpose. Both of them speak and listen alternately as the conversation

goes on. Examples of this form are the conversations between two

friends and an interview between an applicant for a job and a

personal manager.

CommunicationThis is a systematic sharing of ideas among three to eight

persons in order to reach a decision, to find solutions to

problems or to obtain information. In a democratic country like the Philippines, group discussions are very

important.

The Process of

Communication

The SourceAs the sender of the

message, you have a major responsibility in affecting

effective communication. Your objective is to achieve

satisfactory results: thus, you have to find ways and means by which your message could best

be understood.

Color, words, pictures, signs and numbers are some

symbols to represent the message or code you want to transmit. The use of gestures, pictures or colors to express
