The word communication is used in a variety of ways. Communicate

comes from the Latin

communicare which means “to make common.”

•Communication is the process of understanding and sharing meaning.

•Communication is considered a process because it is an activity, exchange, or set of behavior, not an unchanging static product. It is an activity in which we participate.

•Communication requires understanding. People involved in communication must understand what they are saying and hearing.

1. Speech Communication Connects One Person With Another

* You, as a speaker may leave a major share of yourself and your thoughts and beliefs to the many people you are communicating with.

2. Speech Communication Develops High Mental Process

* Consulting your mind on what to say with the effort to make it coherent and in line with what is being talked about; to scrutinize the deepest recesses of your working brain in search of what to say next.

Interpersonal Communicatio

nThis is a

transactional process of exchanging a message. This is between people.

This usually but not always, occurs a face to face. Dyadic and Small group communication belong to this type.

Level 1: Dyadic Communication

This is the basic form of speech communication. This

involves two parties at least one of them has a serious purpose. Both of them speak and listen alternately as the conversation

goes on. Examples of this form are the conversations between two

friends and an interview between an applicant for a job and a

personal manager.

The SourceAs the sender of the

effective communication. Your objective is to achieve

satisfactory results: thus, you have to find ways and means by which your message could best

be understood.
