DETERMINATION OF CARRIER

1. Pipette 50.0 ml of the plating solution into a 100 ml separating funnel.

2. Add 1 ml concentrate hydrochloric acid and 25 ml ethyl acetate.

3. Shake for two minutes, allow to separate and run off the lower aqueous layer into a second100 ml separating funnel.

4. Add 25 ml ethyl acetate to the second separating funnel, shake for two minutes and run off thelower aqueous layer after they have separated.

5. Transfer the ethyl acetate layer from the second separating funnel to the first separatingfunnel.

6. Add 25 ml distilled water and two drops of concentrate hydrochloric acid into the firstseparating funnel, shake for two minutes and run off the lower aqueous layer after they haveseparated.

7. Repeat step 6 and transfer the ethyl acetate layer to a 300 ml Erlenmeyer flask.

8. Add 25 ml neutralized ethyl alcohol and five drops of methyl red indicator.

9. Titrate the solution with 0.1 M sodium hydroxide to a definite yellow endpoint.
