Una familia de pescadores

En Puertobajo, al lado de los yates de lujo, se encuentran los barcos de pesca de la familia

Kania. Hace treinta años había dieciséis familias que practicaban la pesca en esta región,

“pero hoy en día somos casi los únicos”, explica Arturo.

Su hijo Gabriel nunca pensó en dedicarse a otro tipo de trabajo. “Siempre he querido vivir de

la pesca ¡aunque sé que nunca seré rico! Dejé los estudios a los 16 años y tenía prisa por

comenzar a pescar”, comenta.

“No podríamos hacer este trabajo si no nos gustara. Tenemos pocos días de descanso. Rara

vez descansamos el domingo”, comenta Arturo, “pero pasamos mucho tiempo al aire libre y

no hay dos días iguales. Según la temporada, pescamos a lo largo de la costa o en alta

mar”, continúa.

La familia Kania tiene un contrato con un par de restaurantes exclusivos de Madrid, pero la

mayor parte de su pescado lo vende a la gente del pueblo que espera su regreso en el

puerto.

“Antes la pesca era mucho más difícil. Ahora nuestra situación económica es mucho más

estable. Pero todavía trabajamos jornadas largas, y siempre hay accidentes”, concluye

Gabriel.
