For more than a century, Carpenter’s high-performance specialty alloys have been meeting the difficult challenges of advancing technologies.
Carpenter is around you every day. You’ll find that these high-performance materials
have been used in jet engines, automotive components, high-definition televisions, medical implants and instruments, and many other demanding applications. Carpenter serves the aerospace, automotive, consumer products, defense, energy, industrial and medical markets.
Carpenter manufactures hundreds of grades of specialty cast-wrought and powder metallurgy alloys including stainless steels, high temperature (nickel, iron and cobalt-base) alloys, high strength steels, magnetic and controlled expansion alloys, tool steels, and other special purpose alloys.
PRIMARY MELTING
Primary melting produces specialty alloys in ingot form for further processing. The arc melting process allows for certain alloys to be continuously cast into long “bingots” before hot rolling.
FORGING / COGGING
Here, large ingots are rolled, pressed or forged into intermediate-sized billets for further processing. Some billet product may be shipped directly to customers.
PREMIUM MELTING
Carpenter has one of the most advanced premium melting operations in the world. VIM furnaces melt raw materials under controlled vacuum onditions to produce high-purity ingots and prealloyed metal powders. The VAR and ESR processes remelt ingots to further impart desirable properties.

DISTRIBUTION
Our sales and service professionals can quickly track order status, inventory and other essential delivery data. Our commitment to manufacturing, delivery, and service assures that you can count on Carpenter to deliver the specialty materials you need.
HOT ROLLING
During hot rolling, billets are progressively formed into smaller cross sections and emerge as hot rolled bars or coils of rod, flat strip, or special shapes. Some hot rolled product may be shipped directly to customers.
COLD FINISHING
Cold finishing operations include cold drawing or rolling, turning, and grinding.
