WELCOME TO

Time for Travel specialises in arranging luxury holidays, which we tailor-make to your own requirements. Not a package in sight so ideally we need to talk to you to get it exactly right.

We will not only find you some of the finest safaris in Africa, but can organise island-hopping in the Caribbean, cultural and wildlife visits in India and Sri Lanka, and outback and wilderness adventures in Australia and New Zealand. In addition we can arrange glorious beach breaks in all these places, as well as in Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives and the Gulf States. And to tempt you to sample the beaches and cultural treasures of south-east Asia, we have just added Thailand and Indochina to our travel portfolio.

In the following pages we hope to convey a flavour of our enthusiasm for sensitive and discerning travel off the beaten track. There is nothing more refreshing than well planned journeys to far-off lands: they recharge the body, strengthen the mind and enhance the senses.

It is our pleasure to share our experience and knowledge with you and to create for you a unique and memorable holiday.

More detailed information and suggested itineraries are available on our website www.timefortravel.co.uk or do please call us for first hand advice.

There has never been a better time to take the children, or grandchildren, on adventures

in far-flung destinations. Family holidays in the African bush, across the plains of India or in the Australian outback are good examples of this new approach, and a select number of locations now welcome children of all ages. Top-notch care and special adventure activities for both younger children

and teenagers are increasingly available in wilderness lodges and private hotels around the world. These activities, with or without Mum and Dad, are not only great fun but extremely stimulating and the perfect introduction to the life and style of other countries. Knowing that the children are happily occupied allows the whole family to relax and enjoy the holiday with complete peace of mind.

RIS Safaris come in all different

shapes and sizes, and you can do them in India, Oman, Sri

Lanka and Australasia as well as in Africa. You can walk, canoe, fly, have your own private 4x4 and driver guide, be carried by horse, elephant, balloon or boat, or stay put and let the wildlife come to you.

Do you want to follow the game in a classic safari tent with bucket shower and ‘long drop’ loo, or stay somewhere a little (or a lot) more luxurious and permanent with a pool and personal butler? There are endless possibilities. We would be delighted to help choose the right one for you.

Getting married on a tropical island with clear blue waters lapping a sandy

shore doesn't have to be a distant fantasy. In fact, almost any spot is possible, from the sophistication of Cape Town or Sydney to the remote wilderness of the African bush to the heights of the Himalayas – a unique location to suit every taste. We can arrange everything from the paperwork right down to the minister, witnesses and even an on-line wedding list. Apart from the lasting memory of tying the knot in such a stylish way, the cost

compares very favourably with a conventional wedding at home.

Your honeymoon has to be an idyllic holiday, full of romantic indulgence and some calculated extravagance. We specialise in planning perfect honeymoons that can include relaxation, seclusion, adventure or a perfect combination of all three. Many luxury hotels and game lodges now have dedicated honeymoon suites including private gardens, pools, outside baths, 'starbeds' and secluded hideaways for romantic dining.

South Africa has something for even the most demanding traveller, with one of the

greatest displays of animal and plant life in the world, including superb ‘big five’ game viewing in spectacular, contrasting landscapes. Here you will find many world-class, private game reserves, some in malaria free areas. Cape Town, with its famous Table Mountain trademark, is frequently voted the ‘best city in Africa’. Elsewhere you can explore the extensive Winelands, choose from the varied activities and scenery of the Garden Route, take a luxurious train journey or go whale watching – while never being far from excellent restaurants and first class wines.

In contrast, head for the sub tropical beaches on the Dolphin Coast and spectacular mountain landscapes in KwaZulu Natal, often overlooked but never forgotten. Wherever you go, you will be entranced by the friendliness of the people. Then there is the luxury! Top international facilities and service combined with the excellent standards of hotels, lodges, spas and estates compete with the unparalleled natural beauty of the land.

A vast country of compelling beauty and one of the world’s true wilderness

areas, this sparsely populated land is rich in spectacular scenery, wonderful game parks, limitless horizons, incredible geology and intriguing cultures. Travellers to Namibia have a huge choice of landscapes to explore including the ancient Namib Desert, containing the highest of all sand dunes, the desolate Skeleton Coast, littered with decaying shipwrecks and bleached whalebones, and the spectacular Fish River Canyon. In the north, Damaraland has some of Namibia's most rugged and remote areas, which miraculously support desert-adapted black rhino and elephant together with ostriches and gemsbok. Also

found here are ancient San rock paintings and the colourful Himba people whose nomadic lifestyle has survived into the 21st century. The Etosha National Park consists of a vast salt pan surrounded by huge areas of grassland, scrub and a multitude of animals, while the lush Caprivi Strip with its riverine forests teems with wildlife. To the west at Swakopmund, the rich cold waters of the Atlantic support a great variety of marine and birdlife. A well-maintained road network makes a self-drive holiday very appealing, or get off the beaten track with an exclusive guided mobile safari into the remote Kaokoland. For an unforgettable and unique experience take a fly-in safari by light aircraft over this land of deserts, seascapes and salt pans.

Over many years, Time for Travel has developed a deep affection for Botswana's

immense and pristine wilderness. A stable, safe political framework has ensured a long-term conservation policy where nature is protected and visitor numbers are restricted, resulting in safaris of the highest quality.

Of the three distinct habitats found in this magnificent country, the Okavango Delta is probably the best known. 1.6 million hectares of small, palm fringed islands, lagoons and tranquil crystal clear waterways are home to one of the most numerous and diverse animal populations anywhere in the world, as well as an incredibly varied birdlife. The Moremi and Chobe National Parks, together with the Linyanti and Selinda Reserves contain vast numbers of big game, while the Kalahari Desert and Makgadikgadi Pans offers an extreme, stark landscape of desert life beneath huge African skies.

Safaris on land, in boats and on foot cover a rich variety of locations, often involving scenic flights from camp to camp, allowing breathtaking aerial views of landscapes and animals. Exclusive permanent camps provide luxurious facilities, some with private plunge pools, salas and dedicated honeymoon or family accommodation, while small mobile safaris offer independence with private guiding.

I n the heart of the African sub-continent, the vast, beautiful country of Zambia

remains impressively untainted by commercialism, yet offers exceptionally warm hospitality and an excellent selection of small luxury lodges and remote camps. Pure wilderness areas of traditional African bush and wetlands are superbly preserved, and reveal scenes unchanged for centuries.

The mighty Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River is a truly breathtaking spectacle. A multitude of white knuckle sports such as white water rafting and bungee jumping are available nearby or just enjoy the tranquil waters of the upper

Zambezi, game viewing or boating in privacy and comfort. Walking safaris between small, intimate camps are legendary and some of Africa's very best guides can be found in the superb game reserves of the Luangwa and Lower Zambezi valleys. These areas teem with a rich diversity of animals and birdlife to rival any other reserve in Africa. The Kafue is Zambia’s largest park and contains the Busanga Plains, which is home to the distinctive red lechwe antelope and ever attendant predators. Safaris by canoe, 4x4 or foot are all recommended and will leave you feeling like one of the intrepid explorers of old, marvelling at the abundant wilderness.

Also known as The Warm Heart of Africa due in part to the incomparable

friendliness of its people, Malawi is a compact jewel and is blessed with a temperate climate and stunning scenery. The fertile valleys, upland plateaus and forested mountains, including the Liwonde, Nyika Plateaux (8000ft) and Vwaza Marsh National Parks, support a rare diversity of wildlife. Home to Africa's most beautiful great lake with its deserted sand beaches and warm fresh waters, Malawi is a perfect choice for combining a safari with relaxation in lakeside lodges or secluded island retreats.

Lake Malawi contains a greater variety of fish than any other freshwater lake in the world and is a paradise for scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing and canoeing – or charter a luxury crewed yacht and sail for days in isolated contentment.

This huge country, noted for its friendly people and laid-back, almost Latin American

lifestyle, has an attractive, if gently decaying colonial heritage. However, its main attractions are its 1500 miles of coastline with sand so fine it squeaks, the clearest water and outstanding tropical island retreats, some with game viewing nearby. Exclusive beach lodges, which are becoming increasingly accessible, offer a variety of water-sports and in particular some

outstanding scuba diving. The surrounding Indian Ocean waters contain dazzling coral heads and reefs, and exceptional marine life including the rare dugong, manta rays, whale sharks and turtles.

Luxuriously simple or simply luxurious, the individual beach villas provide delightful accommodation in various styles. They are perfect for family holidays, honeymoons or just relaxing in the tropical heat, and combine well with a safari.

Synonymous with the very word 'safari', Kenya, straddling the equator and possessing a

beautiful coastline, has long been the definitive showcase for African wildlife.

Against a backdrop of enormous lakes, imposing mountains and wilderness savannah, classic guided game viewing can be enjoyed in 4x4s, on foot or on horseback. In many wildlife areas, indigenous tribal groups are often encountered tending their herds in a way of life hardly changed in centuries. Of the many National Parks, the Masai Mara holds one of the highest densities of game and co-hosts, with the Serengeti, the annual Great Migration of wildebeest, zebra, antelope and their attendant

predators. The game viewing in the Amboseli, Laikipia and Meru Reserves is a photographer's dream, while the beauty of the Rift Valley lakes dazzles with an abundance of flamingos.

Away from the crowds we can suggest a superb array of quiet, luxurious camps, private ranches and peaceful lodges. The range of facilities is excellent for both individuals and families alike and can include hot air ballooning, camel safaris and fly camping. For some gentle relaxation after the excitement of game viewing, head for the unspoilt Swahili coast. Here you will find marvellous beach resorts including island retreats, stylish hotels, luxurious villas and family beach houses.

Tanzania contains all the classic images of Africa – the majestic snow capped peak of

Kilimanjaro, the great ‘endless plains’ of the Serengeti, the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and the tall, proud Maasai who colour the landscape in their vibrant red robes.

In the north, world famous National Parks offer outstanding game viewing and an incredible diversity of habitats within easy reach of each other. A typical safari will take in Tarangire National Park, the stunningly beautiful Ngorongoro Crater and the incomparable Serengeti, where the annual Great Migration is unquestionably the finest wildlife spectacle on earth. Safari accommodation is excellent and ranges from intimate lodges to comfortable tented camps – or stay in top-notch seasonal mobile camps and follow the game concentrations with your own guide and private 4x4.

The south is vast, wild and remote, with the Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park offering between them boat, 4x4 and guided walking safaris with exceptional game viewing. To the west in the Mahale mountains on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, exotic tented camps provide incredible opportunities to view chimpanzees in their natural environment. This 'primate and beach' experience combines well with the nearby Katavi National Park, offering a definitive wilderness experience.

Zanzibar is renowned for its warm hospitality, beautiful white beaches and tranquil turquoise waters. The island's ancient capital Stone Town

displays a fascinating mosaic of architecture, culture, sights and sounds, with a heady mixture of Arabic, African and European influences. Heavily carved Zanzibari doors, antiques, ornate balconies and romantic rooftop dining are found in the labyrinth of narrow streets. The idyllic, coral fringed coastline provides many opportunities for excellent diving and water-sports.

Around the island we have identified a good selection of private beach hotels, lodges and romantic hideaways where you will feel suitably removed from the pressures of everyday life. In addition, the nearby Islands of Mnemba and Pemba offer unrivalled barefoot luxury in a number of exclusive remote locations.

Scattered around the island are numerous National Parks where you can either stay or just visit for the day, or take an exclusive guided mobile safari to see a number of different reserves, ideal for a family. The wildlife is plentiful, including elephant, leopard, sloth bear, monkeys, crocodiles and over 130 species of birds.

The fascinating, rich tapestry of India with its potent mix of ancient past and pulsating

present has a cultural, architectural and natural diversity unlike any other country. From bustling cities to idyllic beaches and mountain retreats, you will encounter a rich variety of peoples, landscapes and religious pageantry. The scenic grandeur of the Himalayan foothills contrasts starkly with the sweeping dunes of Rajasthan and its walled cities.

In neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, the awe-inspiring Taj Mahal is but one location in ‘the golden triangle’, an area crammed with ancient forts, shrines, palaces and historical and cultural curiosities. Elsewhere, dense jungles and National Parks such as Ranthambore, Bandhavgarh and Corbett, display a rich diversity of wildlife. Here you can stay in tented luxury and ride elephant-back in search of the endangered Bengal tiger, Asiatic rhino and many fascinating lesser known mammals and birds. For relaxation, visit Kerala with its slow-paced backwater houseboats, boutique hotels and palm-fringed beaches, or sample the fragrant western ghats – verdant hills with lush spice plantations and peaceful wildlife reserves.

Indochina is a magical part of South East Asia, comprising lands of temples, traditions, inspiring

scenery and beautiful coastlines, side by side with alluring cities.

Vietnam offers a rich array of scenic and cultural highlights, from the colourful hill tribes of Sapa in the north to the vast canal network of the Mekong Delta in the south. It has World Heritage Sites at Halong Bay, with its towering limestone islands, and at Hoi An, a traditional fishing village of cobbled streets, artisan workshops, vibrant floating markets and excellent cuisine. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) are both beguiling cities of French colonial elegance that provide excellent bases for exploring and sightseeing.

For the beach lover there are sweeping stretches of sand along the central coast where the clear turquoise water is perfect for snorkelling or scuba diving, and the old colonial hill station of Dalat provides a cool retreat amongst spectacular mountain scenery.

The highlight of Cambodia is the astonishing temple complex of Angkor, a legacy of the once thriving Khmer Empire. Visit it in the early morning to see the sun rise over Angkor Wat, a once in a lifetime experience. Nearby, the picturesque and welcoming market town of Siem Reap offers a wealth of local interest and markets.

Between Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand is Laos: friendly and relaxed – a hidden treasure as yet unspoilt by the modern world. The former royal capital, Luang Prabang, is a World Heritage site dominated by temples and palaces, whilst atmospheric Vientiane, the slow paced modern capital beside the Mekong River, is equally endowed with museums and shrines.

All three countries offer outstanding luxury hotels, spa resorts and villas, and are easily accessed by short flights from Bangkok.

Australia is a vast land of beauty, with a huge potential for the extraordinary and the unexpected; not the least of which will be the

characters you meet. They will be down to earth people, often irreverent in a uniquely Australian way but always friendly and genuinely hospitable. The sheer size and complexity of the country make it impossible to see everything in one trip, but Sydney with its cosmopolitan society and world-famous landmarks, Uluru (Ayer’s Rock) with its deep aboriginal spiritual connections, and the marine wonders of the Great Barrier Reef would certainly be on a wish list for the first time visitor. For a gentle alternative, the winelands and rolling farmland of Western and Southern Australia contain private homesteads and sheep stations where you can enjoy some of the best hospitality, food and wine in Australia. For the more adventurous, our carefully chosen selection of outback properties, private bush camps and small lodges in wilderness locations throughout the continent, offer a unique insight into Australia’s natural environment and cultural legacy.

If the natural world on a smaller scale is your preference, Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia has a unique ecosystem that supports a rich mixture of flora and fauna now extinct on the mainland. There are also remote islands to discover in the tropical north of Queensland, while in Tasmania you can explore some of Australia’s best walking trails in a wilderness of moraine lakes, heathlands and mountains.

Wherever you go, a visit to Australia will be the experience of a lifetime.

When it’s winter in the UK it’s summer in New Zealand – a time of

warm, cloudless days and balmy, sub-tropical evenings. It’s a clean, safe and courteous country with many things that seem reassuringly familiar. As a self-drive and multi-touring destination, New Zealand is unparalleled, while the luxury and location of its fabulous lodge hideaways lead the world.

On North Island, there are vineyards, giant forests, vast lakes, bubbling geysers, and the fascinating Maori

culture at Rotorua. For beach based activities head up to the subtropical Bay of Islands with its abundant marine life, where you can swim with dolphins. Auckland and Wellington are cultured and calm, offering fine restaurants, galleries and shopping.

South Island has spectacular wide-open spaces, and Queenstown, the country’s adventure capital. From here you can take a flight to Fjordland, go whale watching, jet boating on the wildest white water rapids or set foot on the sparkling

Tasman glacier. On both islands there is plentiful and varied animal, plant and birdlife – and wherever you go there is always a huge diversity of scenic, sporting and cultural attractions.

Small wonder that all who travel to New Zealand come back utterly enchanted.

Dubai, the perfect winter sun destination, is instantly welcoming, impressive and

ambitiously progressive, with its stunning futuristic skyline of ultra luxurious hotels gleaming against vivid blue skies. The country's Jumeirah Coast is blessed with fabulous sandy beaches and warm waters sporting traditional dhows and luxury yachts.

Inland, as well as outstanding golf courses, racing and tax free shopping malls, you can explore deserts, giant sand dunes and traditional villages. There is also a lively calendar of world class events in sport, music, culture and entertainment. At a more leisurely pace, follow the age old pursuit of hunting for bargains and handicrafts in the local souks and gold bazaars.

Oman, an ancient land of beauty, has one of the oldest civilizations on the Arabian Peninsula and is rich in cultural interest. It is a country of extremes including high mountains, a desolate Empty Quarter, green hills and ancient forts with the capital city, Muscat, being renowned for its colourful souks and friendly people. Having emerged from its historical shell, Oman now offers sophisticated hotels and resorts, guided mountain adventures and luxury desert camping, as well as over 600 miles of coastline with year round sunshine, diving, watersports and abundant marine life.
