➢ The State of Uttarakhand was formed on 9th November 2000 as the 27th State of India, when it

was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh. Located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain

ranges, it is largely a hilly State, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north

and Nepal in the east. The state is close to the National Capital Region and has excellent

connectivity with its neighboring states.

➢ The State has two domestic airports at Dehradun and Pantnagar which are well connected with

major international airports of the country and have multiple flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai,

Bangalore, Hyderabad etc.

➢ Uttarakhand is rich in natural resources especially water and forests with many glaciers, dense

forests and rivers making it an ideal destination for adventure, leisure and eco-tourism. It is

endowed with topographic diversity, pristine natural beauty and religious shrines

➢ Uttarakhand also offers many adventure tourism opportunities in the form of trekking, skiing,

paragliding, camping, angling, mountaineering and rock climbing

➢ Out of the total geographical area of the State, about 6.9 lakh hectares* of land is under

Agricultural crops

➢ Uttarakhand’s favourable agro-climatic conditions with 4 agro-climatic zones enables cultivation of

a multitude of crops, vegetables and fruits round the year

➢ A total of 148 major food processing units (which include all the segments of food) have been

established in the State

➢ Diverse Agro Climatic conditions from sub tropical, temperate to alpine, where farming is mostly

carried out organically

➢ The State has several nationally renowned colleges/ institutes/ universities related to Agriculture

& Allied sector. These include G.B. Pant, University of Agriculture & Technology, Uttarakhand

Science Training Centres, Vivekanand Hill Agriculture Research Station, etc

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project envisages setting up of manufacturing unit for the following:

➢ Value Added manufacturing unit for Amaranthus by using extrusion technology for producinghighly nutritious baby foods

➢ Value Added manufacturing unit for producing snacks using finger millet, barnyard and amaranthas inputs

➢ Manufacturing unit for producing gluten-free breads & cookies using raw and popped Amaranthusflours, Finger Millet (Ragi/ Mandua), Barnyard Millet, as inputs

Uttarakhand’s favourable agro-climatic conditions with 4 agro-climatic zones enables cultivation of amultitude of crops, vegetables and fruits round the year. Uttarakhand is majorly an organic state. Thefood commodities of Uttarakhand, such as Mandua, Barnyard Millet, Amaranthus, etc are renownedfor their extremely high nutrient value and taste.

The project envisages setting up of manufacturing unit using Mandua, Barnyard Millet andAmaranthus, etc as inputs for producing highly nutritious baby foods, snacks, gluten-free breads &cookies, etc.

RAW MATERIAL AVAILABILITY

Mandua is cultivated and produced majorly in Pauri Garhwal, Almora and Tehri Garhwal districts ofUttarakhand. Total production of Mandua is 140655 MT. Total area under cultivation is 102901hectare*

Barnyard Millet is cultivated and produced majorly in Pauri Garhwal, Almora and Tehri Garhwaldistricts of Uttarakhand. Total production of Barnyard Millet is 68120 MT. Total area under cultivationis 49753 hectare*

Amaranthus is cultivated and produced majorly in Uttarkashi and Chamoli districts of Uttarakhand.Total production of Amaranthus is 7402 MT. Total area under cultivation is 7102 hectare*
