FALL 2019

This summer, we had a very special reveal of our newly-remodeled Charlotte Boswell Health Foundation Playroom at our St. Louis home. Thanks to generous financial support from the Charlotte Boswell Health Foundation (furniture), The Rotary Club of St. Louis and Blues for Kids (flooring), and Saint Louis University 1818 (supplies), the vision of many creative volunteers came to light. Students from Fontbonne University and our own moms helped paint a cheerful park mural.

We also have a painted cityscape with buildings named for long-time friends and staff. Developmentally-appropriate toys and supplies have found their new homes in handcrafted storage built by three generations of the Nary family. Each area of the playroom is designed for imaginative play and family bonding. The moms and children who call Our Lady’s Inn home will be able to enjoy this joyful, colorful space for years to come!

As we near summer’s end, many of the kiddos living with us have headed back to school. Carrying backpacks filled with school supplies, wearing new clothes and sturdy tennis shoes, they are excited and ready to learn. A heartfelt thank you to all our donors who helped us prepare the children for a new school year!

Soon the holidays will be upon us. For some of our mothers and their children, sitting down to a traditional Thanksgiving meal may be a new experience, so we do it up right! We decorate, roast turkeys and bake lots of desserts. Staff members sharing this meal will infuse fun, thankfulness, and prayer into the celebration.

And before we know it, it will be the Christmas Season - the most anticipated season of the year! And nowhere is that anticipation more evident than at Our Lady’s Inn. Christmas preparations are non stop. We share the hope, joy, and love of the Holy Season in all we do. For many of the families living at the Inn, Christmas has been a time of increased stress and loneliness rather than a time for family celebrations and the joy of gift giving. We provide many opportunities for celebration; and we focus on Jesus as the reason for the season. Hundreds of donors and volunteers join us in making Christmas a time for giving and receiving. New toys and gifts supply OLI’s “Christmas Store” where mothers “shop” for their children’s gifts. We ensure that all our mothers receive gifts too. We decorate a tree, have a visit from Santa and hear the biblical account of the first Christmas. We celebrate as a family because we are a family-the Our Lady’s Inn family.

As you make your preparations for the upcoming holidays, please pray for our mothers and their children, that this holiday season may be a season of joy and change for each of them.

Jamie’s Story:

Overcoming Adversity When Jamie came to Our Lady’s Inn almost a year ago, she was coming from a place of severe trauma and domestic violence. For-tunately, at Our Lady’s Inn, she found a safe and nurturing home that was free from both of these crises. Just a month after moving in, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl. After paying all her outstanding bills, Jamie began saving for her own car.

Since then, she has reunited with her two older daughters, and is now working in a career that she loves. When new moms come to Our Lady’s Inn, Jamie takes them under her wing with a positive outlook despite facing and overcoming her own hardships. We are so excited for this family of four to be moving into their own housing soon. Congratulations Jamie!
