Conversational/Interview Podcast:

Your microphone is ready, so is your voice. Your guest is sitting across from you. So how can you be the perfect host and ask the right questions? Follow this checklist to get through

your recordings feeling comfortable and confident.

Checklist for your interview recording ❏ Be ready at the scheduled time and turn all your notifications on your phone off.

Don’t forget to ask your guest to do the same. ❏ Come prepared by researching your guest and organisation very well beforehand.

Have a really good think about what you want to get out of your guest. ❏ Are there any calls to action you want to include in this episode, any topics you

want to lead your guest towards? Have your questions for your guest ready accordingly.

❏ Create an inviting atmosphere for you and your guest. Ideally you want to create an atmosphere that makes them feel so relaxed as if they are in their own home.

❏ Start with some small talk - but with a twist, meaning you make your small talk more personal and human as I share in the training video.

❏ After breaking the ice, you can run them through the interview- roughly, remind them to turn off their phone, share how long the interview recording will take. Assure them that you will mind the time and that you are aware they are taking time out of their busy day.

❏ Warm up your guest: Do some test recordings and just keep recording and chatting with your guest to make them forget that a recorder is on.

❏ Listen intentionally as you record with your guest. ❏ Show your guest you are with them and listening intentionally by keeping

eye contact throughout the conversation. When they share something fun, smile along. Your facial expressions will show them that you actually listen and that you are in the moment with them.

❏ Wrap up the interview ask them if something came up at the conversation they rather don't have published, that way you can edit that part out. Ask if there is something that’s missing, if there is something they really wanted to share, so you can still give them a chance to record with you right there and then. Fill your guests in about the next steps eg when you intend to air the episode.

❏ Save the audio file you just recorded.

Preparing a script for your Solo Podcast recording takes time and at this point you might think, can’t I just skip this and wing it? Even if you are the most natural and talented speaker, who loves to talk freely, preparing a script comes with lots of benefits. It’s worth the time and your listeners will thank you for it.

Here is a template how you could draft a script for your Solo Podcast.

Simple & easy Co-Hosting Tipps

❏ Be very comfortable with your co-host. This relationship can make or break your Podcast. So be mindful when choosing your co-host. Make sure you are also sharing the vision and goals for your show.

❏ Use a Project Management tool e.g. Trello or another online project management tool to collaborate on putting your ideas together.

❏ Use colour codes as you structure the flow of the episode , so as you are recording your episode you know exactly who should be taking on which part depending on the colour.
