Randy McKinnon made a suggestion that a tally sheet be produced from a link of Rolling Thunder / BC Cancer. ..So people making donations and the owners of the car can see the contributions being made. As we have about 70 weeks before the event go out and start soliciting NOW, let’s make this a huge success. Bob Whitwick from McKenzie was present at the meeting and expressed his concerns. In respect to rolling Thunder. Read his letters in April’s Headliner, as well he feels the Headliner is getting to him too slowly (by snail mail). This is an issue with the Postal Service as Darlene sends it by the middle of the month. Terry Rea suggested that possibly a solution would be to have a Committee travel to the out of town areas. When an important event such as Rolling Thunder is on the mandate. Dan London mentioned the web site for the BCHRA is about two weeks away. It will need to be approved by the Executive. Good of the order: Jim Lyons was in St. Paul’s Hospital for day surgery (cardiac ablation) and is now at home recovering and is doing well. Coffee Break & 50/50 Draw: The winner of the 50/50 pot of $150.00 was John Paonessa who donated back to the coffee fund. Thanks John for your generosity. Joe Morris: Welcome Wagon Committee called the three new members (May). As a result two of the members were on board for the meeting. Good work Joe President Art has been in discussion with Greg Barnes from Barnes Harley Davidson Motorcycle’s and has arranged the following dates for Cruise-In Nights (7) May 28th , June 25th, July 16th and 30th, Aug 13th and 27th and Sept 9. A motion was to put to the members by Joe Morris to approve all seven nights and to allocate $1500.00 to pay for the entertainment and food. Seconded by Doug Poirier all in favor and carried by members present. President Art: Annual General Meeting usually held in April due to being overlooked will be held at the June meeting. Grant Chitty requested a few moments to address the club. He reminded us we all have a right to be heard. Grant then went on to state that he had heard enough negativity from an isolated pocket of members in the meeting about the Rolling Thunder initiative currently being discussed within the club. Using the democratic process, either the event will proceed, or it will not as determined by the overall membership and not just the executive. Grant commended the executive for the work that had been done so far and the obvious transparency, openness plus the willingness to take on suggestions to make the club not only shine but to provide us all with an activity with which we can all enjoy with the added benefit of providing an extreme amount of support behind a very worthwhile cause. Grant went on to say that while understanding that maybe not everyone may view this initiative favorably, those who don’t would then have a decision to make, and that is either get on board positively, or get out of the way. Motion to adjourn was proposed by Pete Graw and seconded by Harvey Funk. Meeting adjourned at 9:25pm **********************************************************************************************************

A Run to Prince George is being planned for the Fathers Day Show on June 19, 2011. The idea is to have a meeting place in Cache Creek at the Husky/Mohawk gas station at 11:30 am on Friday, 17th. The reason for this, is that anyone coming from the southern or Kamloops area can join up and head north with the group. The plan is to meet with the PG guys at Breakfast on Saturday morning, go for a couple of garage tours and a BBQ at a Lakeside home on Saturday night. The Car show is usually over by approx 3:30 pm on Sunday. Take your time going home or stopping for some sightseeing (eg Barkerville). I would like to hear from anyone interested. Please email Tom Whiffin at [email protected] A hotel will be booked for the people coming. Please advise the number of people in your car. Tom Whiffin ******************************************************************************************************** We are looking forward to this run (above). We are going down to PISRA's 40th deal on June 11th so it would be fun to cruise back to Prince George with a bunch of you guys. I could line up some shop tours after brekky on the Sat. I don't know if you have talked to Bruce Metcalfe, but the Bon Voyage Motel where we eat might the best place to stay with your cars. Kinda outa the way and fairly close to Bruce's place as well. I should also have mentioned the show is in Fort George Park which is a stunning location on the Fraser River with a museum nearby and a small steam train to take kids about the park. As well, you get to park on grass with shade trees too. If you stayed at the Bon Voyage west of town it would take about 10-12 minutes to get to the show location. I think the cars would be safest there for sure, rather than a motel/hotel downtown. Keith Robinson ******************************************************************************************************** Bob Whitwick, Box 535, MacKenzie BC, V0J 2C0, Bela.ire @live.ca BCHRA March 8, 2011 I am writing this with my concern as to the direction of this Association and would like this to be presented at a regular meeting. As on all our Headliner cover pages we state TO PRESERVE THE PAST AND ENHANCE THE FUTURE. We as an association have done a great job of preserving the past history of the hot rodding hobby and we are doing a fantastic job on the present but we are falling down on enhancing the future. We are not promoting the future of our hobby to the young and up and coming members of the hobby. We need to do more to get the younger people in the auto body to carry on and to do this we need to spend time and help introduce young people to this hobby to preserve the hobby. To me we have to realize that all youth interested in these new imports and small newer factory produced cars are welcome and open our doors to them. All we see at any BCHRA meeting is a sea of gray hair. We need the youth. We as an association have and are doing great things that impress the public and promote our hobby as a good entity with great public respect but I feel if we continue in the direction we will just end up a great “OLD BOYS CLUB” that does great things for areas of need but we will never “ENHANCE THE FUTURE” of our hot rod community and we will just become a great fundraising club for charities and corporations that make money from promoting fundraising for needed causes and our name will rank with ‘Lions Club’, ‘Rotary Club’ and ‘Kiwanis’etc. Great clubs but not what I thought the direction was to be this club went when myself and my wife got involved in 1995 for the 40th reunion and what I saw happening for many years. HAVE WE CHANGED OUR DIRECTION? Bob & Dar Whitwick ************************************************************************************************************

RAMBLIN’s from The Prez…. May, 2011 As we push forward thru this cold, wet, miserable spring weather, it’s been way too long for some warm & sunny hotroddin’ weather, we. Lucked out last Sunday @ Poppy High School sit n’ park, weather was decent & dry, field was soggy in spots, but a good turnout of rides & lots of car BS’ing…. Quite cool today, Mother’s Day, for Tom’s deal at his Whalley shop, but held off on rain, seemed about ½ the cars of 2010, but once again, great cars & car people…BS was non-stop until I headed home to try lawn cutting…or should I say, pasture mowing…. Strong BCHRA contingent last weekend @ Tradex, both on individual entries and a 6 car BCHRA display put together by Bill Townsend…Thank You, Bill, for your skills & efforts and another good showing. Thank You’s as well to members taking their time to display their cars & enhancing the BCHRA image…numerous Awards rec’d by BCHRA Members including People’s Choice for our BCHRA VP Keith Biddlecomb’s awesome 65 Impala convertible…. Tempo on hot-rod events definitely on the upswing, now that May 1st is behind us…BCHRA & Barnes HD initial 2011 Cruise-In Nits get underway on May 28th with live music & grub, so mark your calendars…we are holding 7 Cruise-In Nits in 2011, all with live R&R music, and strong member support has been indicated…all hot-rodder’s are welcome to join us at Barnes HD, 200th & Hwy 1, so all BCHRA members bring out your car bud’s & neighbours or just pass the word around…. Rolling Thunder Against Cancer continues steaming towards its initial staging in Aug/2012, under Dan London & his Committee, with inquiries being fielded from a large variety of corporate entities…these companies have heard of our Event and wish to participate on a sponsorship level…media participation is strong and will be commencing in July this year, well over 1 year ahead of our 1st event…early Registration will be available as soon as our new BCHRA website is up & running, hopefully within another few weeks…. Additional BCHRA Exec efforts and time on getting our 4th Hot Rod Saturday at Park Royal on August 20th put together, again via the formidable team D&D, with indicators that an expansion to 200 cars may be feasible…with the 2010 event boasting a 35% size increase with non-member’s being welcomed to bring us to a 162 entry total, once again, EARLY REGISTRATION by all interested BCHRA members is a recommendation…website registration will be available soon and we likely will allow an initial period of time for BCHRA members ONLY to register with this information being displayed on the Registration Form…. Delighted with member enquiries on helping out on our various Committees and we can always use more help….so don’t be shy and come forward to any Exec Member….should you get tapped on the shoulder or get called by an Exec Member to help out, your efforts are greatly appreciated and contribute towards another successful activity for the BCHRA…. Only 5 weeks until hot-rods head out for LARS at Pomona... I’m like a kid waiting for Xmas…got some issues to attend to on the RPU, so need to bear down, type up my list & get ‘err going….
