can have at the base of Mount Cheam.

WHY SCENIC 7 AND BRIDAL FALLS / POPKUM?Hope, Cascades & Canyons encompasses a

diverse area of adventure. Although on opposite

sides of the Fraser River, we see Scenic 7 and

Bridal Falls / Popkum as natural exploration

partners for any visitors looking for a day-trip

or overnighter. Urban refinement meets raw

wilderness in this natural loop through the Fraser

Valley.

Whether you are training for a tour or just hunting for hills, the road riding around Hope is unbeatable.

Here are two of our favourite rides.

Hope - AgAssiz

Distance: 80km round trip

Hope-Agassiz is an excellent ride for those who

have always been intrigued by road riding,

but are daunted by busy highways and big

commitment. Also a nice early season ride

for veteran cyclists who haven’t been on their

bike all winter. Highway 7 has one (short) hill

between Hope and Agassiz.

Start down Highway 7 early in the morning.

By the afternoon, the wind tends to pick up

on the Fraser River, making Highway 7 a

more grueling ride than it has any right to

be.

THe Hope slide

Distance: 35km round trip

Long distance riders in Hope will argue that once

you have ridden the Slide three times then you

are ready to tackle anything the province has to

offer.

The climb starts as soon as you leave town with

a section of 6% along the Coquihalla Connector.

After riders merge onto Highway 3, there is a slight

downhill respite before the climbing continues.

Riders will know they are at the bottom of the

Slide as the road turns abruptly uphill and the

hard, but rewarding, work begins.

As difficult as the climb is, the downhill makes up

for it all. Riders barely have to pedal to make it

back to downtown Hope.

The light trails in Hope offer families and beginners an introduction to the joys ofoff-road riding with incredible views

KettLe VaLLey raiLway - hope-otheLLo

Distance: 8 km (round-trip)Beginner

This portion of the Kettle Valley Railway offers beginner trail riders an easy introduction to the KVR. More adventurous cyclists may want to undertake the multi-day journey from Hope-Midway along the old railbed, but day riders will enjoy the nearly flat, double-wide trail that passes through the Othello Tunnels.

rotary Nature traiLsDistance: 2 km (round trip)Beginner

With a few more twists and turns than the KVR, the Rotary Trails is a fun place to ride with kids and anyone who is new to trail riding. The trail follows the Coquihalla River, so is a good place to see the salmon spawning. It also connectsto the Town Bike Route.

MouNtaiN:Heading to Kamloops or Kelowna for a weekend of riding? Why not stretch your legs and warm up in Hope?

hope BiKe sKiLLs parKBeginner-Advanced

Before you hit the gnarly downhill on Mount Hope and Dog Mountain, test your skills at the Hope Bike Park. The skills park was completed in early 2015 and is the newest addition to the mountain biking scene in Hope. The park includes skinnies, pump tracks, and dirt jumps for all skill levels.

Mt. hope LooKoutDistance: 3km (round trip)Advanced

The mountain bike trail on Mount Hope starts just below the hikers’ trail-head and – at points – crosses the hiking trail. The advanced trail has some man-made features and follows the Joan Greenwood Loop.

A trip along Scenic7 would not be complete without a stop at the Ruby Creek Art Gallery

(10 minutes west of Hope).

Owned by the Skawahlook First Nation, Ruby Creek Art Gallery features an amazing collection of Aboriginal art from the Pacific Northwest. If you’re looking for something

special, pieces can be commissioned for a reasonable price.

All roads lead to Hope; as a major highway junction, Hope is perfectly positioned as your base camp for adventures in the Hope, Cascades & Canyons region.

With free parking, it is easy to forget about your car while exploring the trails and green space near our downtown. The Mt. Hope Lookout Trail (Hope’s answer to the Grouse Grind) is only a 5 minute walk from downtown. The Lookout is the ideal setting for a picnic because of its benches and incredible views of Hope.

Within easy driving distance from downtown are a myriad of other hikes. Be sure to pick up the Trails of Hope brochure at the Hope Visitor Centre to help guide your adventures through our mountains. We would hate for you to miss any of the views!

Maybe you would prefer a nice walk along the river or through the marsh? Perhaps you would prefer to play bocce,

football, or tennis after your morning coffee? Our parks and green space offer incredible beauty within minutes from our downtown coffee shops and restaurants.

The newest addition to Hope’s considerable amenities is the Coquihalla Community Park, which includes an upgraded Fort Hope Trail, improved Sports Bowl, and - maybe most importantly and impressively - a mountain bike skills park.

The completion of the Coquihalla Community Park project was truly a labour of love and community. The multi-year plan was 80% complete in the first year thanks to an incredible effort by many volunteers who call Hope home.

We honestly cannot understand why you are still reading and not throwing your bikes in the car. What are you waiting for?

If you start looking around and wondering why you don’t live here, you’re not alone. Hope is more than just a place to play and eat. Thanks to a recent multi-million dollar infrastructure investment, we have some of the fastest fibre optic internet in the province. So whether you need to check in with the office before you hit the trail or want to relocate an at-home business to a more affordable community, we are ready for you.

Hope is one of the most easily accessible towns in British Columbia. We sit at the junction of four major highways and our access to the Fraser Valley is unimpeded by snow throughout the winter.

Four-bedroom homes in Hope are comparably priced (though typically less expensive) than one-bedroom apartments in Greater Vancouver. Just think about that for a minute. Think about how much more space you could have and how much further your money can go. Not to mention how much less time you would spend in your car each day.

For more information on working and playing in Hope, make sure you stop by the Hope Visitor Centre and Museum Complex at 919 Water Avenue (or give us a call at 604.869.2021). We can’t wait to meet you!

Watch for the next installment, featuring the Fraser Canyon!

LIFESTYLE

Located at the base of Mount Cheam, Bridal Veil Falls Provincial Park is home to Bridal Veil Falls. A short hike (half an hour return) takes visitors along a lush trail lined with ferns, moss, picturesque woods. The falls are 60 metres high and as the water cascades over the smooth rock face, a veil-like effect is created.

Located on the north side of the highway, Cheam Lake Regional Park offers walking trails and birdwatching in a wetland setting. It is a must-see spot on the way back to Scenic 7.

In addition to the course, Bridal Falls Golf Club has a covered driving range, practice bunker and chipper area, and putting green. There are also qualified instructors on-site.

Bridal Falls / PoPkum

Bridal Falls / Popkum is a short drive from Scenic 7 and is where families can play. This oasis at the base of Mount Cheam offers a plethora of activities that will entertain grandma to grandson, and everyone in between.

Bridal Falls / Popkum is a jewel in the Hope, Cascades & Canyons region that sits 20 minutes west of Hope on Highway 1. Although small, the area boasts a number of restaurants, accommodation options, and places to explore.

Bridal Falls WaterPark

Bridal Falls Waterpark features four advanced slides, two intermediate slides, one tube slide, three kiddie slides, and a giant hot tub. There is also a concession and VIP areas. Guests at the adjacent Bridal Falls Camperland RV Resort get discounted rates to the waterpark. The waterslides are open weekends from mid-May to the end of June, and daily until the beginning of September.
