S tudents have once again come through in a big way in helping us produce this year’s Creative Adventures feature.

This annual project produced by the Red Deer Advocate has received great

buy-in from students, teachers and schools throughout Central Alberta and has given these young, aspiring artists a chance to flex their creative muscle. The art created for this year’s section reflects a wide range of students from many different schools and backgrounds as they have done their best to design eye-catching ads for our advertisers while also putting forward other examples of their work.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who participated this year as well as Kids in Harmony. Working together, the Advocate and Kids in Harmony were able to provide a prize to every class that participated in drawing an advertisement.

The Dancing HotdogStory by Jenae Becker

One day there was a girl she was going for a

walk to donut shop to get some donuts for her and

her friends when they came over. When she came

out of the donut shop she could not believe her

eyes it was a dancing hotdog. Then she went over

to the hotdog no no the dancing hotdog.

She said um well if you are going to dance can

I dance with you? Of course the dancing hotdog

said YES. So they danced and danced and danced

until they got to the girls house. When the dancing

hotdog walked the girl to her doorstep she did not

want the dancing hotdog to leave.

She invited him over for the night. The next

morning she woke up and went down stairs for

breakfast and she had totally forgot that it was her

birthday and when she went down stairs there was

waffles and pink ribbon and balloons she was so

happy!

Then she said who did this and dancing hotdog

popped out from behind the wall and said IT WAS

ME! Happy birthday Willow! She was so happy she

came up to the dancing hotdog and gave him a hug

and he said what do you want for your birthday!

All that I want is a big teddy bear and to know your

name PLEASE. Well I guess I could tell you my

name if that is what you want.

So here I go my name is ……. Jeremy the

dancing hotdog said. Willow said that is great name

why are you hiding it! Well I guess I just don’t like it

I guess. Well I think it is AWESOME name. Let’s just

forget about that and party!!! So they partied and

partied and partied and they lived happily ever after.

PS Will got her big teddy bear.

My HouseFlo RidaAlbum Review by Dominic

I am reviewing the album My House by Flo Rida. (Best album ever!) He is known for rapping in his other albums. (Most of his albums/songs are rap.) It was published on April 7th 2015. I would recommend it for people who like rapping in slow paced songs. His other albums are Mail on Sunday, Wild Ones, Only on Flo, R.O.O.T.S. Second Flo, and Good feeling. (I would also recommend them too!) I would rate it…..5 out of 5!!! It is my favourite album it is awesome! I would recommend to look up the lyrics because the main video is just weird@ (You can still watch the main video.) It is the most epic album ever!!! The albums other songs are Once in a Lifetime, I don’t like it I love it, and My House. My favourite song from the My House album is……My House! If you want more from Flo Rida go to DJ booth. (Or google that would be easier) It was recorded in 2014. More songs in the album are Wobble, Here is is, D.D.F.R. That’s what I Like. His actual name is Tramar Lacel Dillard. Fun fact: It is house music! That is all for my review.

EXO: ExodusAlbum Review by Nahdia

The album that I will be writing today is Exo’s album Exodus.

Exo is a Korean pop band. They are spreading around the world and getting more and more popular! The songs in the album include Call Me Baby, Transformer, My Answer, Exodus, El Dorado, Playboy, Hurt, Lady Luck, What If, and Beautiful.

I recommend this album because it is a very good album. You might not be able to understand them but once you look at the lyrics you will like it very much. It has slow and upbeat songs. There is no bad words in it either.

K-pop is a type of pop music and that is the type of music they play. They play pop music and the K stands for Korean. So it means Korean-pop.

Anyway Exo has many great songs in this album. They have made many other great albums well like XOXO and Overdose. Personally this one is my favorite.

One thing that I like about this album is the music. The beat is really nice! One thing that I dislike about it is there is only a few songs. It has a lot of nice soothing songs for when you want some time alone but is also had really fun songs if you just feel like dancing! This album will get your heart racing and you will have the best time in the world.

Listening to Exo’s Exodus album makes me happy because if I have troubles doing homework or am sad I listen to the songs or album and forget all about it. It has great beats that will make you want to move. Exo will make you want to invest Koren music more and more. It will make you happy when you listen to them. Your worries will disappear when you listen to this album. All of Exo’s albums are amazing and I think that you will like it. I don’t understand what they are saying yet I listen to so many of them! Exo’s Exodus album came out not too long ago.

It came out in 2015. Exo has a ton of hit songs in this album. The one that a lot of people like is Call Me Baby. It was their first comeback after a long time so a lot of people went crazy when they first saw it. I know I did! My favorite song from this album is Hurt. They had a ton of hit albums in the past but I think

this one was their best one yet.

Once you listen to it why don’t you tell me your

favorite song from it! I recommend this album

because it has songs for all of your moods. This

album will make you forget about things that you are

stressed about only if you listen to it! I recommend it

because it will really get your mind off of it.

Once you know the lyrics you will be jamming out!

You will like this album once you listen to it. Some of

the lyrics are really nice. You can listen to the album

on trips, at home, even when you go to sleep! As

long as you get this album you will be able to listen

to it anywhere anytime of the day. If you don’t mind

listening to albums or songs that are in different

language then this album is definitely for you no

doubt! You can learn the lyrics in Korean and start

singing to it.

You can look at the dance practices to one of the

songs in this album and show it off to your friends as

well! We want to make this album the most popular

out of all the albums.

Let’s show them a lot of love for this album.

This is why you should get this album and spread it

around

Meeting a Sports Hero Story by Ema

Have you ever wanted to meet a sports hero?

I got to meet one. I went to Roughriders Training

Camp. This is where they get ready for the season.

I met Belton Johnson.

Belton Johnson is a retired football pro that

I interviewed at a football camp in Moose Jaw.

He was a professional football player for a long

time. He even helped Saskatchewan win the Grey

Cup. Can you imagine playing in front of all those

people? That was a great Grey Cup. He told me

that his best achievement was winning the Grey

Cup in 2013. He told me he loves his fans and he

couldn’t have done anything he has done without

them. When he was younger he watched football

a lot and that is what inspired him to play for the

Saskatchewan Roughriders (and other teams). As

I said earlier he has won the grey cup in 2013 and

he said it was his best memory of football. During

the interview he told me the reason he retired from

football was because once he got over 30 it was a

little hard to keep up in football, so he retired, but

his love for football is still very much alive! He said

when he was younger he WANTED to play football

but he did not plan on playing football in a pro team.

His worst injury ever was a quad tendon tear, I think

that would hurt a lot. He played on a few different

teams here’s a list of them: In the NFL he played for

the Cincinnati Bengals. In the CFL he played for the

BC Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Hamilton Tiger

Cats, Edmonton Eskimos, but his heart was with the

SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS (my favorite

team).

One of the questions I was dying to ask him was

how did they get to the games, he said the CFL

paid for plane tickets for the players. I also wanted

to know the age he started to play football which

was five years old. He played football (not just on

the Roughriders) for 10 years pro which for playing

football is a pretty long time. He says if he could

have any other job in the world it would be at football

coach (of course). He played football on two teams,

the pirates and ole miss revels. His favorite sport

besides football is basketball because he is very tall

6 foot 6 (my mom is only up to his belly button). I

really enjoyed talking to him. He was very friendly.

He has a kind heart and loves to talk to his fans.

Nowadays he helps out with football players but

comes out to the football camp to help the players. I

think he misses the game quite a bit.

My Experienceat the loppetStory by Ciara

I loved the Loppet it was a one and a lifetime opportunity. I would love to go again. Only like 18 people came out of the whole school it is not that many. But the main thing is

that we had a lot of fun and that is was a good experience. It was at Riverbend Golf course and

we got to ski on the field and in some trees. It was

very beautiful. There were a lot of other schools

there. When we got there we immediately put on

our skis and then we practice I fell a lot but I had a

lot of fun in it. After we were done we got a cookie

and a juice box and it was awesome it was sooooo

good. I think you should go when you are in grade

5 or 4 it is a good thing for you to do. Like it is a day

off school and you go with the 2 best people in the

whole school the first person is Mr. Pizzey and Mrs.

Blades they are pretty cool people am I right! Here

was a really big hill. I fell but lots of people did not.

There were over 400 kids there but not that many

grade 5’s and 4’s. I rate the Loppet 10 out of 10. I

loved the Loppet the track was really long and big

there weren’t that many hills. There was one HUGE

hill I hurt my foot really bad but it was also awesome.

After that they announce the gold bronze and silver

medal I did not win one but that is ok. Thank you for

organizing this wonderful experience.

Wolf WhispererStory by Michi and Nahdia

Y ou might have noticed a bunch of new students in our school. Today we (Michi and Nahdia) will be writing about the Syrian people that came to Canada

because their homes are getting destroyed and they were in danger. The Syrian’s arrived on December 31, 2015. They came to Canada to get a fresh new start.

More than four million Syrian Refugees have left their country during the civil war. Their country

has had two different sides fighting over whom should run it. Ordinary people are caught in the middle and often they want to find a new home where their family is safe.

Canada has decided to help and welcomed 25,000 people from Turkey to Canada. Our school is also helping families from Europe feel comfortable and welcomed by helping THEIR kids attend our school and learn more about their new country.

Kids are so excited to go back to school and learn new languages. Tens of thousands of Syrian refugees camp next to the Turkey border! It is really good that we are helping so remember West Park, be nice to them and help them because they only speak a little bit of English.

Ontario is also helping by letting 10,000 Syrian Refugees come to their province by the end of the month.

Isn’t that nice of them? Turkey was the country that let most of the Syrian Refugees come to their country with close to 2.5 MILLION refugees come

to their country! If you are wondering what refugee

means it means a person who was forced to leave

because of a civil war and just a war.

The refugee crisis started in 2011 when

thousands of Syrian people get new homes. The

crisis started around 2011! WOW! It has been going

on for a while. Remember we need to help as much

as we can! We are helping because they were

FORCED out of their home! This war needs to end! It

is very hard for them. So let’s do our very best. Let’s

be on our best behavior.

The Syrian refugees want to attend school. Their

homes are being bombed and destroyed! They must

be feeling a lot of pain. We will help by showing

them kindness! Let’s show them that kindness and

acceptance are the real West Park Ways! Thank you

for reading West Park.

Taco Rain in Red DeerReport by Alivia Beuker

T uesday March 1 at 2:30 was supposed to be a normal day with average weather predicted. Suddenly a number of taco’s dropped from the sky in Red Deer. A girl named Mara was walking on the street when all of a

sudden a taco fell on her! Everyone is supposed to stay indoors until this abnormal weather is over. A witness named Alivia witnessed how it happened. The Stewardess accidentally opened the airplane door and all of the taco’s flew out of the airplane door. This event is still under investigation.
