For those who like the serenity of trout fi shing, there are plenty of easily accessible lakes in the region to try your luck at. For those who enjoy the thrill and the fi ght associated with going after the big one, the region’s rivers provide ample opportunities to go after a variety of Pacifi c salmon.
And for those who want to hit the open waters of the Pacifi c in search of salmon, halibut,
lingcod, prawns or crabs, Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert and Kitimat all off er some exciting ocean fi shing opportunities and plenty of professional guides to help ensure your trip to the coast is a success.
Along with the exceptional fi shing opportunities is exceptional scenery. With bald eagles, grizzly bears, deer, gray whales, and the rare Kermode bear among the wildlife that calls the Northwest home, the opportunities to take in a unique wilderness experience is always present.
WITH THANKSThe Terrace Standard thanks those who
provided them and we hope you’ll share the thrill of the catch as much as did those who caught the fi sh in the fi rst place.

WHERE FRIENDS & FISHERMEN GATHER
WILD SALMON & STEELHEADScenic beauty, a vast variety of waterways
and a fl eet of powerful fi sh make this region an unparalleled destination for big scale adventures. Each year anglers are lured to the Skeena Valley in the hopes of landing the big one and it’s a known fact that more salmon and steelhead are caught in the Skeena River and its tributaries than any other place in the world.
The fi shing opportunities are diverse and last throughout the year depending on the species and watershed. Steelhead fi shing is prime in the early spring and late fall while the summer off ers a chance to catch all fi ve species of Pacifi c salmon—King, Sockeye, Coho, Pink, and Chum. Tropy-sized trout such as Rainbow, Kokanee, Lake, Dolly Varden, Mountain Whitefi sh, Lake Whitefi sh, and Burbot can also be found in the lakes year round.

FAST FACTS
A WORLD RECORDThe world record for catching (and releasing) a
99-pound Chinook Salmon is held by a visiting German tourist who had her fi rst fi shing experience in the Skeena River in 2001.
SWIMMING FROM THE HEADWATERS TO THE PACIFICIn the summer of 2009, Ali Howard swam the
length of the Skeena River, a 610-kilometre journey from the headwaters to the Pacifi c Ocean just like a migrating salmon. Supported by a team of experts, her goal was to raise awareness of the environmental threats to the Skeena including coalbed methane drilling and pipeline development.
