TH215 Compact Telehandler

The TH215 Telehandler is a highly versatile,compact machine, designed to delivermaximum performance with traditionalCat reliability, durability and productivityin the toughest working conditions.

Performance and Power Train

The TH215 has a maximum lift capacityof 2495 kg (5500 lb) and 5.5 m (18 ft)lift height. It utilizes a Caterpillar®

3054B direct injection, naturallyaspirated engine and a hydrostaticdrive for smooth, accurate handlingcombined with powerful performance.pg. 6

Enclosed Cab. The TH215 is equippedwith an enclosed cab allowing theoperator to work comfortably, withair conditioning available as an option.The cab structure has been designedand certified to provide falling objectand rollover protection (FOPS/ROPS).

Seat. The standard suspension seat isadjustable to provide a comfortable rideand an air suspension seat is availableas an option. The operator can adjustthe angle and the height of the steeringcolumn for maximum comfort.

Control Layout. The cab layout has beenergonomically designed to make theoperator’s job as easy as possible. Thecontrols are logical, highly responsiveand easy to reach. The instrument panelis comprehensive and clear. The gaugecluster includes a tachometer, hourmeter, fuel gauge and engine coolanttemperature indicator to monitor themachine’s systems.

Single Joystick. The cable-operatedjoystick is located within easy reachof the operator. Diagonal movementof the joystick allows a combination ofboom and tool functions to be achievedsimultaneously. To raise or lower theboom, move the joystick backward orforward respectively. Move the joystickto the right to dump and the left torack back. The colored buttons on thejoystick control the boom and auxiliaryhydraulic functions.

Hydraulics. A hydraulic header tank islocated in the engine compartment foreasy fill access. The hydrostatic circuitis supplied by the hystat gear pump,which provides 21 gal/min (80 L/min)of flow at the boom head.

Operator EfficiencyDesigned for simple, easy operation, the TH215 allows the operator to work productivelyand comfortably.

Visibility. The machine’s low profiledesign, side mounted engine, and lowboom pivot point allow the operatorto carry loads in a low position withoutobstructing visibility to the right of themachine. The mid-mounted cab alsoimproves visibility to the rear. The frontwindshield is a rounded single sheetof glass stretching from just above thedashboard, over the operator’s head forexcellent visibility. The upper portionof the cab door is independently hingedso that it can be opened and secured forventilation and ease of communication.

Maneuverability. The compactdimensions of the TH215 offerexcellent maneuverability. With its lowprofile and 3.1 m (10 ft 2 in) outsideturning radius, it can work productivelyin confined areas.

Steering Modes. Three steering modes(circle, two-wheel and crab steer)allow the operator to easily positionthe machine in small, confined areas.Steering modes are selected by usingthe steering mode switch in the operator’scompartment. An indicator light in thecab illuminates when the wheels areproperly aligned.

Fenders. The fenders are mounted to theaxle and turn with the wheels allowingthe operator to easily determine the wheelorientation while protecting them frommud, rocks and water spray.

Ease of OperationEasy operation results in greater productivity.

Engine. The TH215 is powered by thewell-proven Caterpillar 3054B-DIdiesel engine. This provides high fuelefficiency and excellent reliability,developing full torque at lowerrevolutions compared to other engines.

Power Mode. A power mode switchlocated on the right side of the operatorconsole allows the operator to selectbetween two different modes of operation.

Hydrostatic Drive. The TH215 features ahigh pressure, closed circuit hydrostaticdrive to deliver powerful but smoothacceleration while providing continuoustorque through the two speed ranges.The low speed band has a maximumtravel speed of 8 km/h (5 mph) and thehigh speed band has a maximum travelspeed of 32 km/h (20 mph).

Hystat Pump. The hystat pump is avariable displacement, axial piston pump.

Axles. Both axles steer and utilizeplanetary reduction hubs. The rear axleis center trunnion mounted, allowing5 degrees of total oscillation. The frontaxle is fixed.

Brakes. The brake system is suppliedwith hydraulic oil from the mainhydraulic system. The park brake isfoot activated. The brake system hasan accumulator that provides reservedbrake pressure in the event of ahydraulic failure.

Manual Coupler. The TH215 utilizesa manual quick coupler using thesame interface as the CaterpillarSkid Steer Loader.

Work Tools. Work tools greatly enhancethe versatility of the TH215 and increaseits ability to perform multiple tasks.The following work tools are available:

• General Purpose Bucket (0.75 m3/0.98 yd3) for loading, carrying,dumping and general purposejob site clean up.

• Light Material Bucket (2.0 m3/2.6 yd3)for loading, carrying, dumping andhandling light, loosely packedmaterials, such as mulch, hay, woodchips, snow etc. The optional doublesided bolt-on cutting edge is idealfor heavy wear applications.

• Pallet Forks and Carriages (1400 mm/55 in) for handling palletized loads,such as bricks, concrete blocks, lumber,drywall and pipe. Also available forthe carriage are 1067 mm (42 in),1120 mm (44 in) and 1220 mm (48 in)Class II forks.

VersatilityThe TH215 offers outstanding productivity in a wide range of applications.

Ease of Access. The TH215 utilizesa side mounted engine design, whichprovides easy access to major servicepoints. Regular maintenance is importantin ensuring a long, productive machinelife and helping minimize downtime onthe job. The complete service schedulecan be found in the Operation andMaintenance Manual that accompaniesthe machine.

Boom. The TH215 has a two-sectionbox-formed boom constructed froma continuously welded, high-strength,heavy-duty pressed steel plate withgenerous boom section overlaps toreduce pad loads and increase pad life.

Cooling Package. The hydraulic oil iscooled upon exit from the hystat drivemotor by an oil-to-air heat exchangerbefore returning to the main hydraulictank. The TH215 is equipped with ablower fan that pushes air out throughthe rear-mounted radiator and an oilcooler that slides out for cleaningpurposes. This directs the hot air awayfrom the operator providing a morecomfortable work environment. Anoptional reversing fan is available formore effective cooling when workingin hot or rugged environments.

Electrical System. A battery disconnectswitch is standard to help prevent theftand to minimize drain on the battery.The fuse panel is located within thecab console and is well protected bya removable plastic cover.
