Most of Vietnamese people still live in destitute so their major vehicle to work is motorbike. However, there are still affluent people who use cars to work. Besides, there is a steady increase in the number of people using cars. What traffic problems are there in your area?In my area, there are many traffic problems. One of the major problems is traffic jam. Especially in rush hours, there are usually traffic jams in crossroads which are awful. Another problem is accidents which cause much death and bad consequences for generations. How do traffic problems affect you?Well, firstly, traffic jams get on my nerves. It makes me late for school although I usually try to go to school early. The consequences are more serious when I have a vital test on that day. Secondly, if I am stuck in a traffic jam, I feel very uncomfortable because of noise and polluted smoke. Lastly, it is accidents that make me feel unsafe when driving. I always hope to arrive home safe and sound as soon as possible. How would you reduce the traffic problems in your area?

Page 2: Speaking

In my opinion, there are many ways to decrease traffic problems. As far as I am concerned, firstly, we can mitigate this problem by improving civilian’s awareness through education and propaganda. Secondly, we can reduce traffic problems by enlarging and developing transport systems. Lastly, traffic police should be reinforced to control vehicle lines and solve problems if possible.Part 2:In my opinion, playing sports is quite an effective way to keep fit and healthy. Therefore, I spend much time playing sports, especially, swimming. At weekend or summer vacation, my best chums and I usually go to the swimming pool near my high school. This is a good chance for me to relax and for us to meet each other. At first, I did not like swimming because I was scared of water. However, when seeing my friends feel happy and healthy when swimming, I envied them. From that time, I said to myself that I could not so coward and should surmount my scare. Year in year out, I tried to swim to prove that I could do it although it was not just a piece of cake for me. Finally, I succeeded and swam well. Firstly, I like swimming because it is a popular method to keep me healthy. Secondly, when swimming, we can simultaneously move all parts of our body, which helps our bodies fitter and more flexible. Next, when I swim, I feel very comfortable, fresh and almost forget all my tiredness and sorrow. They are the reasons why most of youngsters choose swimming.Part 3:How have games changed from the time you were a child? As I see it, games changed a lot from the time I was a child. Firstly, games in the past are not as popular as these now. Secondly, games now are more complicated and developing than these in the past because of the advance of technology in many functions. The last and the most disadvantage is the violent games now which have bad influence on players.Do you think this has been a positive change? Why?In my opinion, it is fairly difficult to confirm this has been a positive change. The reason is that this has been both positive and negative. The positive is that the development of games reflects the improvement of technology, the creation of game makers and satisfies the demands of players. However, games now are so attractive that they make many players crazy about them and ignore studying or other outdoor activities. Besides, many games contain violent details which are very harmful to players. Why do you think children like playing games? In my opinion, children like playing games for many reasons. The first reason is games help children relax after hard studying. Secondly, children were attracted by the excellent effects of graphic art, sound and even 3-dimensional effects. Lastly, games help children out of genuine life and bring them to a virtual world in which that can be a king or a queen.Do you think competitive games are good or bad for children? In what ways?In my opinion, competitive games are both good and bad for children. They are good because they teach children to fight difficulties. Besides, they teach children that nothing is easy to gain and we must fight to take it. However, competitive games still have bad effect on children. If players are not strong and astute enough, they will have blind faith in these games. They will bring what they have faced in games to real life and become violent and warlike. How can games sometimes help to unite people?

Page 3: Speaking

In my opinion, games sometimes help to unite people because there is also a virtual world in games. Games can be a world that gathers people having the same interest which is playing games. We can see that there are many websites or associations which were established by game players for many purposes such as sharing experience or even doing charity. Therefore, we can see that games sometimes help to unite people. Why is competition often seen as important in today’s society? In my opinion, there are many reasons why competition is often seen as vital in today’s society. Firstly, the more and more developing society is, the more and more competitive it is. To survive, people need competitions. For example, there are competitions between companies to get profits and customers. Secondly, competition makes the improvement of society. For example, competition makes companies have to innovate technology and make their products outstanding. Therefore, competition partially brings good things to society.

NOTES:

IELTS words (22000 từ)

Idioms

Những từ về PROBABILITYPart 1:Do you enjoy dancing? [Why/Why not?]► Yes, I find dancing really interesting. Every dance has its own specialties which distinguish it with others. In my opinion, one of the most outstanding things of each dance is that each goes along with different kinds of music, which makes dancing more attractive. As I see it dancing not only

Page 5: Speaking

makes your soul more romantic and relax but also makes your body more flexible and fit. Besides, dancing helps your health better. Therefore, if I have a chance to learn dancing, it is certain not just a piece of cake for me and very difficult to learn but I will try to study well.Has anyone ever taught you to dance? [Why/Why not?]► Yes. Although I have not ever participated in any class of dancing, I could be proud to say to you that I used to be taught to dance by my teacher. I had a memory happening about three years ago related to dancing. I did not remember clearly how it happened. I supposed that as we were studying in her extra class, inadvertently the power was cut. Therefore, instead of waiting for power, she decided to teach us some basic dancing. It is the first time that I knew what dancing is. It is a good memory in my heart that I cannot forget.Tell me about any traditional dancing in your country.► One of the unique traditional dancings in my country is Southern Lion Dance, which means “múa lân”. Itoriginated from China. Lion Dance is usually performed in Mid – Autumn Festival and Lunar New Year.  As an art, Southern Lion Dance has its principles and rules. A Lion dance usually lasts from 20 to 25 minutes. A lion dance cannot lack the Earth God which means “Ông Địa”. A Southern Lion Dance performance is very animated with instruments such as drum, firecrackers. It is really interesting. It is performed to welcome good things and wipe out all bad things.Do you think that traditional dancing will be popular in the future?

Page 6: Speaking

► I concur with you. In my opinion, traditional dancing is a precious thing of a country. Therefore, they need to be preserved and popular in the future. It is likely that the government will have plans to make Southern Lion Dance more popular in our country so that Southern Lion Dance will be a vital part of Vietnamese culture. Southern Lion Dance will probably appear more frequently in special ceremonies. It is worth being preserved.Part 2:In my family, the person I love most is my grand father who passed away about six years ago because of cancer. When I was just a child, my parents usually went to work. Therefore, I stayed at home with him and our relationship was quite good. He was very friendly and helpful. Whenever my friends came to my house, he usually greeted them with cordiality. He liked growing flowers very much. It was the reason why there were flowers galore in my garden. Every morning I tried to get up early to garden the flowers and enjoy the fresh atmosphere with him. He loved me very much and I was an apple of his eyes. When I went to primary school, it was he that rode me on his bike to take me travel back and forth between my house and school. When he passed away, I felt like having a broken heart. I was sad and cried so much. I missed him. I missed every time we had been together, missed his gentle and righteous smiles. From that time, I became reservedand did not want to talk to anyone. A long time passed. I realized that I could not continue living like this. I could not be a coward person. I must be strong despite the tragedy in life as what he had advised me to. I decided to dance to another tune to live well as my grand father hoped.

Part 3:In what ways can people in a family be similar to each other?► In my opinion, people in a family can have a resemble to each other in two basic ways which are their appearance and their characters. As I see it, there are two main reasons why people in a family can have similarity to each other. The first is their gene and the other is the environment of living together which makes them similar to each other.Do you think that daughters are always more similar to mothers than to male relatives?► I do not have the same opinion to you. As far as I know, sex just partially plays an important role in this matter. The similarities can originate from other reasons such as environment of living together. Take myself, for example. I am resembled to my father more than to my mother in both my appearance and my personalities. What about sons and fathers?► As I have mentioned, sex just partially plays an important role in this matter. The similarities can be traced from other reasons such as environment of living together. Take my father, for example. My father is similar to my grand mother in his appearance and to my grand father in most of his characters such as strictness and deservedness. In terms of personality, are people more influenced by their family or their friends? In what ways?► In my opinion, we cannot say that people’s personality totally depends on their family or their friends. Two ways affect people’s personality simultaneously. However, I divide two periods of time which they influence most. The first is when they have not gone to school. At that time, the behaviors of their family play a vital part in their characters. The other is

Page 8: Speaking

when they go to school. At that time, they will meet their friends even more than their family. Therefore, their friends will influence them more than their family during this period.Where can people in your country get information about genetic research?► As far as I am concerned, people in my country get information about genetic research through books,  magazines or newspapers. How do people in your country feel about genetic research?► It is quite new to Vietnamese people. There are many people in my country who still live in destitute so their knowledge is not high. Therefore, they cannot realize the importance of this matter.Should this research be funded by governments or private companies? Why?► I think government should have main responsibility in this research. Besides, private companies should participate in this important research if they want.
