SPEAKERS Akif Saeed Commissioner, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP)

Akif Saeed is the Commissioner of SECP and has been associated with the department for the last 13 years. His achievements include disintegration of three stock exchanges, divestment of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) shares to strategic investors followed by its self-listing, creation of central counter party at the clearing company, introduction of e-IPO and e-dividend. He is member steering committee for National Financial Inclusion Strategy and is also member General Committee on anti-money laundering. Prior to Joining Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan he worked with American Express Bank for 9 years and Packages Limited for 3 years. Akif Saeed has done MBA from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Ayesha Aziz, CFA Managing Director, Pak Brunei Investment Company

Ayesha Aziz is associated with Pakistan Brunei since its inception. She has worked with ANZ Banking Group for over ten years in various areas including Treasury, Portfolio Management, Planning and Financial Engineering. She was also involved in business operations and subsidiaries of Pak Oman Investment Company. She is the director on the Board of Primus Investment Management and Chairs the Board of Awwal Modaraba Management Ltd. Ms. Aziz is an MBA from IBA and a qualified CFA.

Farrukh Sabzwari CEO & Founder, Alpha Frontier Consulting (Pvt) Limited

Farrukh H. Sabzwari is the Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Frontier consulting. Previously he was the Director Asian Equities Sales at Credit Suisse in Singapore. He has spent more than 20 years covering the Asian Equities asset class from New York, Singapore and Karachi in senior management positions at firms like CLSA, KASB (An ex-Merrill Lynch affiliate) and Credit Suisse. He is an MBA from the IBA in Karachi.

Inayat Hussain, CFA Executive Director, State Bank of Pakistan

Inayat Hussain has bought a diversified experience of over two decades in Banking Supervision, Regulations, Policy and Operations. He currently serves as an Executive Director of the Banking Supervision in the State Bank of Pakistan. He is responsible for Financial Stability, Supervision of Financial Institutions, Enforcement function and Banking conduct. He is a member of the Council of Regulators and Monetary Policy Committee and Financial Stability Executive Committee of the State Bank of Pakistan. He has also been on the boards of International Islamic Financial Market and Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance. He holds Master’s degrees in business administration, FRM and CFA designations and doctorate degree in economics and finance from Curtin University, Australia.

M. Ali Tabba CEO, Lucky Cement

Muhammad Ali Tabba is the Chief Executive of Lucky Cement Limited and Yunus Textile Mills Ltd (YTM). He is the Vice Chairman of the Board of ICI Pakistan Limited. Mr. Tabba serves on the Board of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). He is also a Trustee of the Fellowship Fund for Pakistan (FFFP). Additionally, Mr. Tabba is the Vice Chairman of Pakistan Business Council (PBC). He has served as the Chairman of All Pakistan Cement Manufacturing Association (APCMA). He has also been appointed by the Government of Pakistan to serve on the Board of Directors of Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC). Mr. Tabba serves on the Board of Governors at numerous renowned Universities, Institutions and Foundations. He is the Vice Chairman of Aziz Tabba Foundation, a not-for-Profit organization.

M. Aliuddin Ansari CEO, X – Co. Partners

Muhammad Aliuddin Ansari started his career as an Investment Manager at Bank of America in London, and then worked as CEO Pakistan and later as COO Emerging Europe for Credit Lyonnais Securities Asia (CLSA). Following this he was CEO AKD Securities and launched Online Trading, Venture Capital and Private Equity in Pakistan. In 2006 he partnered with an Oil & Gas company to form Dewan Drilling which he led as its CEO. He was appointed the President & CEO of Engro Corporation in 2012 and was concurrently Chairman of all its subsidiaries where he was responsible for stewarding Pakistan’s first LNG terminal and Thar coal project. He is the sponsor of X-Co Partners and Executive Chairman of its subsidiary X-Petroleum and serves as a director on the boards of Kashf Foundation, Pakistan Refinery and is a member of the Advisory boards of Acumen Fund Pakistan and the Aman Centre for Entrepreneurship Development at IBA.

Kalim Aziz CEO, KiRAdvisory Limited

Kalim Aziz runs an independent research advisory firm, KiRAdvisory as a senior analyst and is a co-manager to asset management firms, as capital structure and business viability advisory to small corporates, marketing support to merchant and investment banks and IR advisory to corporates in the Emerging European region. Kalim has a track record of acting as a sole generalist analyst to Emerging European long only fund which ranked in the top 10% percentile amongst its peers for 7 years (2010-2017). Prior to primarily working on the buy side (since 2006), Kalim has acted in the capacity of sector analyst (telecoms) and head of research since 1998 to 2006, working at firms like ING Barings and Unicredit Banca Mobiliare.

Khozem Haidermota Senior Partner, HaidermotaBNR

Khozem Haidermota is currently a Senior Partner at the firm of HaidermotaBNR & Co., with over 28 years of experience in Corporate, Banking and Commercial matters. Khozem is admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Sindh and the New York State Bar. Before joining HaidermotaBNR & Co., he was an associate at a Wall Street law firm for four years specialising in securities law. He completed a Juris Doctor and M.Sc. from Georgetown University. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from The Wharton School.

Paul Smith CEO & President, CFA Institute

Paul Smith, leads CFA Institute, a global association of investment professionals that sets the standard of professional excellence and credentials. He has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the asset management industry, including over 18 years in Asia. Previously, he was the Chairman and CEO of Asia Alternatives Asset Partners. Before that, he was Asia head of securities services at Bank of Bermuda. He joined CFA Institute in 2012 as Managing Director for Asia Pacific and was appointed President and CEO in 2015. Smith holds a Master’s degree in History from Oxford University.

Naz Khan Managing Director, X – Petroleum Limited

Naz Khan is the Managing Director for X-Petroleum Limited. Prior to X-Petroleum, she was the Chief Financial Officer at Engro Corporation Limited. She also held the positions of Chief Executive Officer of Engro Eximp Agri Products (Private) Limited and Chief Financial Officer of Engro Fertilizers Ltd. as well as serving on the boards of various Engro companies. Naz has also worked as a consultant for the Asian Development Bank on Mortgage Backed Securities.

M. Bashir Janmohammed Chairman, MAPAK Group

Muhammad Bashir Janmohammed is the chairman of the Pak – Malaysia Business Council of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry. He also chairs the board of Wetbury Group of Companies, Dalda Foods, Mapak Edible Oils, FWQ Enterprises, Mapak Qasim Bulkers, Bulk Management (Pakistan) and Wazir Ali Industries. Mr. Bashir is the member on the board of Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan. He is also the chancellor of Institute of Business Management. He is the Official member of various Trade Delegations, entourage with Prime Minister and President of Pakistan to Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Brunei, U.K., Spain. France etc; life Member of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) and Council Member of International Seed Crushers Association (ISCA), U.K. Mr. Bashir has been awarded with the Life Time Achievement Award by the Marketing Association of Pakistan by Governor of Sindh Mr. Muhammad Zubair Umer.

Nick Pollard Managing Director, Asia Pacific, CFA Institute

Nick Pollard joined CFA Institute in 2016 as managing director for Asia Pacific. Prior to joining CFA Institute, Nick was CEO of The Royal Bank of Scotland’s Coutts Asia division and, most recently, he was the Head of International Learning and Professional Development for Coutts International. Nick began his career with NatWest Group, subsequently part of the RBS Group, where he gained experience in marketing and talent development. He earned his B.A from University College, London and is a Member of the Private Wealth Management Association.

Sakib Sherani CEO, Macro – Economic Insights (Pvt) Limited

Sakib Sherani is the Founder and CEO of Macro Economic Insights (Pvt) Ltd. He was the Former Principal Economic Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Government of Pakistan. He was an Ex-Member, PM’s Economic Advisory Council. He also worked as a Chief Economist at ABN Amro Bank (Pakistan)/Royal Bank of Scotland. He is a regular op-ed columnist on economy for Dawn.

Shabbar Zaidi Tax Expert, Partner at A.F. Ferguson & Co.

Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi is a Senior Partner at A.F. Ferguson and Co. He has been the President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and South Asian Federation of Accountants and Chairman, Professional Standards and Technical Advisory Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan. He has also been a caretaker Minister of the Province of Sindh in 2013. His current responsibilities include being Chairman of Taxation Committee of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan; Member, Developing Nations Committee of International Federation of Accountants; Member, Central Audit Committee of Board of State Bank of Pakistan; Senior Member of the Task Force for Reform of Tax Administration (2000); Advisor, Corporate Rehabilitation Committee of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan; Trustee, Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) and Member, Boards of Governors of Liaquat National Hospital, Karachi and Karachi School for Business & Leadership. Mr. Zaidi is the Chairman of Regulatory Affairs Committee and a member of Human Resources & Remuneration Committee and Taxation Committee of KSE’s Board.

Rahat Kaunain Senior Partner, HKN Legal Practitioners & Advisers

Rahat Kaunain is the Founder and Senior Partner at Hassan Kaunain Nafees, Legal Practitioners & Advisers. She was appointed as one of the founding members and later served as the Chairperson (2010-2013) of the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP). Earlier, she served at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, as General Counsel. She is also Chairperson of Women on Board Pakistan and a recipient of Women of Achievement Award 2010, Wonder Women Award 2013 and was recognized as one of 100 successful women in anti-trust globally by Global Competition Review in 2013. She has also been nominated for Sitara-e-Imtiaz by Government of Pakistan.

Sima Kamil President & CEO, UBL

Sima Kamil is the President & CEO of UBL. Sima started her career at American Express Bank and went on to work at ANZ Grindlays, Standard Chartered Bank and HBL. Sima has over 30 years of experience in Risk Management, Retail, Corporate & Investment Banking. She is also the Chair of the Board of Governors of Karachi Grammar School and on the Board of the Notre Dame Institute of Education. She has a degree in Business from Kingston University, UK, and an MBA from City University, London.

Usman Hayat, CFA

Usman Hayat, CFA, FRM is a financial services professional. He is the lead author of the CFA Institute guide on sustainable investing “Environmental, Social, and Governance Issues in Investing: A Guide for Investment Professionals” (2015) and a comprehensive literature review, co-authored with Dr. Adeel Malik from University of Oxford, “Islamic Finance: Ethics, Concepts, Practice” (2014). He is a keen writer on capital market issues and his articles have been published in a number of publications in the US, UK, UAE, and Pakistan, ranging from FTfm to DAWN. Most recently, he was executive director at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. Previously, he has served as a content director for CFA Institute based in London. He has had a contributing role in some of the major developments in Pakistan’s capital market from the introduction of the UIN system to the demutualization and integration of Pakistan’s three stock exchanges into PSX.
