Mr. Oladejo O. Ajayi is an International Statistical Consultant and a former Director-General of Nigeria National Statistical Office from 1991 – 1999, Oladejo’s Statistical career started with his appointment as Statistician in 1966 in the same Institution after acquiring degrees in statistics at both the Universities of Ibadan and Michigan respectively. Specialized trainings included survey methodology and management at Michigan and at Pittsburgh, respectively. He’s fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM). Some of his public services nationally and internationally included: Member of Nigeria Vision 2010 Committee; Chair of first session of Committee on Development Information (CODI) (UNECA 1999); Chair of the Committee on African Statistical Development (CASD) (1994 – 1995) and member (1993-1999); Part of the launching of PARIS21 (1999) and member (Steering Committee; 2003 – 2004); Lead Consultant for the evaluation of the Addis Ababa Plan of Action (AAPA) for Statistical Development in Africa (2000);Part of preparation of the Reference Regional Strategic Framework (RRSF) for Statistical Capacity Building in Africa (2005-2006); Supporting (NSDS) design efforts in Africa. Other area of contributions included Statistical Education giving semester courses in survey methodology at the Universities of Ibadan (Nigeria) and Florence (Italy). Membership of professional Societies, including, International Statistical Institute ISI(1984), International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS), International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS), and past President and fellow of the Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA). A number of awards were won with the latest being Africa Statistics Award (UNECA, 2008). Ajayi has contributed more than 90 technical papers at seminars, conferences and in journals, books and manuals.

M. Oladejo O. Ajayi est un consultant statisticien international et ancien président général de l’Office national de la statistique de 1991 à 1999. La carrière statistique de Mr. Ajayi a commencé avec sa nomination en tant que statisticien en 1966 dans la même institution après l’obtention de diplômes en statistiques à l’Université de Ibadan et celle de Michigan. Il a également suivi des formations spécialisées dans les domaines de méthodologie des enquêtes et gestion dans le Michigan et à Pittsburgh respectivement. Il est membre de l’Institut de gestion du Nigéria (NIM). Il a également contribué à l’éducation statistique en donnant des cours trimestriels de méthodologie des enquêtes à l’Université d’Ibadan (Nigeria) et celle de Florence (Italie). Il est membre de nombreuses organisations professionnelles telles que l’Institut statistique international (ISI) (1984), l’Association Internationale des Statisticiens d’Enquêtes (AISE), l’Association internationale des statistiques officielles (IAOS) et ancien président et membre de l’Association nigériane de la Statistique (NSA). Il a reçu de nombreuses récompenses dont la dernière est la récompense des statiques africaines (UNECA, 2008). Ajayi a contribué à plus de 90 documents techniques pour des séminaires, conférences, journaux, livres et manuels.

Ms. Diana Alarcón serves as Cluster Leader for the Inclusive Development Cluster in the Poverty Practice of UNDP's Bureau for Development Policy. Before joining UNDP in August 2008 she worked as a Senior Economic Affairs Officer at the United National Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), where she coordinated the research on Macroeconomic Instability and Economic Insecurity that was published in the World Economic and Social Survey 2008. Prior to that, Diana worked at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C. for 7 years. In between, she also worked with the Poverty Practice of BDP, UNDP, as Policy Adviser, Poverty Assessment and Monitoring during 2002-2003 and contributed to the shaping of the MDG agenda of the Poverty Practice. She spent a sabbatical year at the ILO in Geneva and has worked for several universities and research institutes in the U.S. and Mexico. Diana holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California-Riverside and has more than 15 years of experience in the field of economic development.

Born in Moroni in Comoros. She obtained a Master Degree in economics in 1984 at Lomé University in Togo. From 1984 to 1988, she was in charge of controlling public companies at the Ministry of Finance in Comoros. From 1988 to 1992, she managed the public company of import and distribution of meat products and conducted its privatisation. Back to the Ministry of finance in 1992 as a technical advisor of the Minister, she worked in different dossiers in the areas of cooperation with international financial institutions, privatisation of public companies. After managing a support project at the Ministry of finance on the implementation of projects funded by EU, she joined the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) in Maurice in 2001 as technical assistant in charge of EDF regional projects. From December 2003 to April 2004, she was commissioner of Ngazidja Island in Comoros, and became General Commissioner, Finance, Planning, and Budget Ministry of Comoros in 2007.

Née à Moroni en Union des Comores. Mme Alfeine a obtenu une maîtrise en Sciences Economiques à l’Université de Lomé au Togo en 1984. De 1984 à 1988, Elle est chargée du contrôle des sociétés d’Etats au Ministère des Finances de l’Union des Comores. De 1988 à 1992, elle dirige la société d’Etat chargée de l’importation et de la distribution de produits carnés sur l’ensemble du territoire qu’elle conduit à la privatisation. Elle réintègre le Ministère des Finances en 1992 où elle est Conseillère technique du Ministre et travaille sur plusieurs dossiers dans les domaines de la coopération avec les institutions financières internationales, et de la privatisation des entreprises publiques. Après avoir dirigé un projet d’appui au ministère des Finances à la mise en œuvre des projets financés par l’Union Européenne ; en 2001, elle devient assistante technique dans la mise en œuvre des projets régionaux FED pour la Commission de l’Océan Indien (COI) à l’Ile Maurice. Elle est nommée Commissaire au Plan de décembre 2003 à avril 2004 de l’Ile de Ngazidja aux Comores et devient Commissaire Générale au Plan de l’Union des Comores en mai 2007.

Savas Alpay is the Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC). He received his PhD in economics from Johns Hopkins University in 1997 and has taught at different universities in Turkey. Formerly, he has worked as a consultant for an international consultancy firm and served on the Board of a Public Regulation Authority in Turkey. His research areas include environmental economics, trade and development economics, knowledge economics, science and technology policies in OIC Member Countries. His current research focuses on interactions among economic growth, international trade and the environment with an emphasis on the design and implementation of policies towards sustainable growth. His book titled “Trade and the Environment” has been published by Kluwer, and he has many articles published in different journals and conference proceedings. He is the editor of the Journal of Economic Cooperation and Development.

Savas Alpay est le Directeur Général du Centre de Recherches de Statistiques, Économiques et Sociales et de Formation pour les Pays Islamiques (SESRIC). Il a reçu son Doctorat en Sciences Économiques à l'Université de John Hopkins en 1997 et a enseigné à différentes universités en Turquie. Autrefois, il a travaillé en tant que conseiller pour un cabinet d'experts-conseils international et a servi au Conseil de l’Autorité Réglementaire Publique en Turquie. Ses domaines de recherche incluent les sciences économiques environnementales, sciences économiques du commerce et de développement, sciences économiques de la connaissance, et politiques de science et de technologie dans les Pays Membres de l'OCI. Sa recherche courante se concentre sur les interactions en ce qui concerne la croissance économique, le commerce international et l'environnement avec une emphase sur la conception et la mise en œuvre des politiques envers la croissance soutenable. Son livre intitulé « le Commerce et l'Environnement » a été édité par Kluwer, et il a publié beaucoup d'articles dans différents journaux et démarches de conférence. Shaida Badiee, an Iranian national, is director of the Development Data Group at the World Bank. The Data Group maintains the World Bank's major economic and social databases and publishes the annual World Development Indicators, the World Bank Atlas, and Global Development Finance (Volume II). The Data Group is also the focal point for the World Bank's support for statistical capacity building and follow up to the Marrakech Action Plan for Statistics, which provides a road map for improving global statistics involving many partners, users, and producers. Ms. Badiee is a member of a number of statistical coordination groups and works closely with key partner agencies on raising the profile of better statistics for managing development results, harmonization of statistical work, and support for capacity building to developing countries. She is a lead manager of the International Comparison Program (ICP). Her educational background is in computer science and information management with a MS degree and teaching experience in this field at the George Washington University, prior to joining the World Bank in 1977.

Mme Badiee est membre d’un certain nombre de groupes de coordination statistique et travaille étroitement avec les agences partenaires clé pour la promotion de meilleures statistiques pour gérer les résultats du développement, l’harmonisation du travail statistique, et le soutien dans le domaine de renforcement des capacités dans les pays en développement. Elle est le principal manager du programme de comparaison internationale (PCI/ICP en anglais). Elle est titulaire d’une maitrise en science informatique et gestion de l’information et a enseigné dans ce domaine à l’Université de George Washington, avant de travailler à la Banque Mondiale en 1977.

Martin Balepa

Martin Balepa is a senior statistician (INSEA, Rabat, 1971). Elected Executive Manager of AFRISTAT since January 2004, he joined this institution on February 1998, as the Deputy Executive Manager. Before that, he was head of the National Bureau of Census in Cameroon, his native country, and head of the National Statistical Office. From 1982 to 1998, his contribution was very appreciated in statistics, building the national statistical system and being involved in some of major national statistical activities. He was in charge of building National Population Policy in 1990’s. He conducted the Second General Population and Housing Census in 1987. He participated to some important conferences. He was the Chief of National Technical Team of Negotiation for 1994 International Conference on Population and Development. In that position, he conducted the Cameroonian technical to to negotiation to New York before the Cairo Meeting on September 1994. M. Balepa has an appreciated experience in management and organization of statistical systems and in household surveys and population censuses. He wrote some articles in specialized journals. The informal economy linked with the poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa is also an important topic for him.

M. Balepa est statisticien senior (INSEA, Rabat, 1971). Elu au poste de manager exécutif de AFRISTAT depuis Janvier 2004, il a rejoint cette institution de puis février 1998 en tant que manager exécutif adjoint. Avant cela, il était à la tête du bureau national de recensement du Cameroun, son pays natal et chef de l’Office National Statistique. De 1982 à 1998, ses contributions ont été très appréciées dans le domaine des statistiques. Il a contribué au renforcement du system statistique national et a été impliqué dans des activités nationales majeures dans le domaine des statistiques. Il était en charge de la conception de la Politique nationale de la population dans les années 90. Il a préparé le second recensement général de la population et des ménages en 1987. Il a participé à des conférences importantes. Il était chef de l’équipe technique nationale de négociation pendant la conférence internationale sur la population et le développement en 1994. A ce titre, il a dirigé l’équipe technique du Cameroun pendant les négociations à New-York avant la conférence du Caire en septembre 1994. M. Balepa a également une grande expérience dans le domaine de gestion et organisation des systèmes statistiques et les enquêtes-ménages et les recensements de population. Il a écrit quelques articles dans des journaux spécialisés. Il s’intéresse tout particulièrement au lien entre l’économie informelle et la pauvreté en Afrique sub-saharienne.

Misha Belkindas is a US national and has worked at the World Bank since 1992. He leads the Bank’s work on statistical capacity building worldwide, and oversees several global statistical programs, such as the STATCAP lending program, the Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building, the Statistics for Results Facility Catalytic Fund, the International Comparison Program, and grants to international agencies to support the Marrakesh Action Plan. Mr Belkindas works extensively with key international partners to promote statistical capacity building, and has represented the World Bank at key international for a, such as the UN Statistical Commission, UN Regional Commissions, the OECD Statistical Committee, and the PARIS21 Steering Committee. He holds a PhD in mathematical economics, and has published widely on issues relating to economic modeling, transitional economies, and statistical capacity building.

Misha Belkindas est de nationalité américaine et travaille à la Banque Mondiale depuis 1992. Abdullateef Bello is a Nigerian who received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Applied Statistics at the University of Oxford (U.K) and a B.Sc. in Statistics (First Class Honour) from the University of Ilorin (Nigeria). He was the recipient of the prestigious Rhodes scholarship, which enabled him to complete his studies at Oxford.

Dr. Bello has published extensively in leading international journals including The Statistician; Computational Statistics and Data Analysis; Statistics in Medicine; Biometrical Journal; Communications in Statistics: Theory and Method; Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation; Australian Journal of Statistics; and International Research Journal of Finance and Economics. He has also contributed a number of short papers in Bulletins and magazines worldwide.

Over the years, Dr. Bello has had a checkered career. In the mid-eighties, he worked as Data Officer/programmer for a Nigerian government parastatal (NYSC Secretariat), followed by a stint of two years as a lecturer in one of the top universities in Nigeria (Federal University of Technology, Akure). In the nineties, shortly after completing his Ph.D, he joined the Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG, UK) as a Computational Statistician developing statistical software and analyzing complex data.

Currently, he is the Director of Data Resources and Statistics Department in the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), a Jeddah-based international financial institution. In this capacity, he is responsible for setting the agenda of statistical activities in IDB as well as managing the IDB-STATCAP initiative. He is also the focal point for exchange of data with development partners and researchers. He supervises the flagship statistical publications of IDB and quality assures the collection, processing and dissemination of data on the activities of IDB Group and on socio-economic indicators of member countries.

Abdullateef Bello est originaire du Nigéria. Il a obtenu une maitrise et un doctorat en statistiques appliquées à l’Université d’OXFORD. Il a également obtenu une licence en statistiques (Premier de sa promotion) à l’Université de Ilorin (Nigeria). Il a reçu la prestigieuse bourse de Rhodes, qui lui a permis de terminer ses études à Oxford.

Dr. Bello a publié énormément dans les journaux internationaux de référence tels que : The Statistician; Computational Statistics and Data Analysis; Statistics in Medicine; Biometrical Journal;

Au cours des ans, Dr. Bello a eu une carrière bien remplie. Au milieu des années 80, il a travaillé en tant que programmeur chargé des données pour le Gouvernement paraétatique du Nigéria (NYSC Secretariat), puis en tant que conférencier dans l’une des meilleures universités du Nigéria (Federal University of Technology, Akure) pendant deux ans. Dans les années 90, peu de temps après avoir terminé son doctorat, il a rejoint le Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG, Royaume-Uni) en tant que statisticien quantitatif afin de développer des logiciels statistiques et analyser des données complexes.

Actuellement, il est directeur du département des ressources de données et des statistiques à la Banque Islamique de développement (BID/IDB), une institution financière internationale basée à Djeddah. Il est responsable de la mise en place du programme des activités statistiques de la BID et de la gestion de l’initiative IDB-STATCAP. Il est également le point focal pour les échanges de données entre les partenaires de développement et les chercheurs. Il supervise les principales publications statistiques de la BID et contrôle la qualité, la collecte, la transformation et la diffusion des données relatives aux activités du groupe BID et des indicateurs socio-économiques des pays membres.

She has also advised the UN Economic Commission for Africa on gender issues. Ms Chuwa is a member of the International Association of Survey Statisticians, the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population, and the Union of African Population Studies. She holds a Masters Degree in demography.

Charles Enoch is a Deputy Director in the Statistics Department of the IMF. He is a UK National and was educated at Cambridge University and at Princeton where he gained a Ph.D. in Economics. From 1976 to 1987 he worked in a variety of jobs at the Bank of England, and from 1987 to 1990 he represented the United Kingdom as Alternate Executive Director at the IMF. After a further spell at the Bank of England he returned to the IMF as Division Chief in the Monetary and Exchange Affairs Department in early 1993. He moved to the Statistics Department as Deputy Director in 2000 and, after a further spell in the Monetary Department, has been in the Statistics Department again since 2007.

Mr. Enoch has worked in over 60 countries for the Fund, on a variety of monetary and financial and statistical issues. He has led several teams conducting assessments of countries’ statistical practices. Mr. Enoch has a number of publications including on statistical standards, financial soundness indicators, and technical assistance case studies.

Pieter Everaers (55) is Director for External Cooperation, Communication and Key Indicators at Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, since April 2009. He is responsible for the dissemination of EU statistical information the technical cooperation of Eurostat with European and non European Third Countries and cooperation with International Organisations. He represents Eurostat in several international coordination meetings such as the Management Group of the Intersecretariat Working Group on National Accounts, the Friends of the Chair on Agricultural Statistics and the ICP Global Project. Previous to his current position, he held successive posts within DG Eurostat: Director of Agricultural and Environment statistics and Statistical Cooperation, Director of External Relations Statistics (2004 to 2006) and Director of Business Statistics (for a period of nine months). His main areas of expertise are in research and survey methodology and conceptual frameworks in statistics. He joined Eurostat in May 2004, after 20 years at Statistics Netherlands (CBS) where he ultimately held the post of Director of Social and Spatial Statistics (2000-2004). He has a PhD in Spatial Sciences at the University of Utrecht and originally trained in Human Geography and Mathematical Sociology.

Prior to that, Dr. Fraihat assumed the position of Director General of the Jordan National Information Technology Center. He also served as advisor to several government ministers. In the academic track, Dr. Haidar M. Fraihat is an associate professor of Management Information Systems at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia. He also worked as Assistant Professor of MIS at Mutah University in Jordan, in addition to Sohar University in Oman, as well as several USA universities. Dr. Fraihat has more than 25 research outputs including 8 published research papers and several papers presented in conference proceedings. Dr. Fraihat has more than 20 conference papers, 3 authored textbooks, and a number of technical papers and research projects and grants.

Pietro Gennari has over 23 years of experience in the main areas of official statistics and in managing statistical programmes, both at the national and international level. He began his professional career in 1986 working with the Association of Wholesale Food Operators, and subsequently served for five years as Senior Statistician at ISCO. Between 1993 and 2003, he worked with the Italian National Institute of Statistics, first as Head of the Labour Force Survey Division and then in the Directorate for Short-Term Business Statistics.

From August 2003 to November 2005, Mr Gennari was Adviser on Economic Statistics for the UN Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), assisting the National Statistics Offices of the Region in improving basic data sources for the compilation of the main economic indicators. At the end of 2005 he became the Director of ESCAP Statistics Division, where he launched a new programme of statistical capacity building and redesigned the statistical dissemination strategy. Since the beginning of 2009 Mr Gennari is serving as Director of FAO Statistics Division.

Enrico Giovannini was recently appointed President of the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat). Before that he held the post of Director of Statistics and Chief Statistician for the Organisation for economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) since January 2001. Under his leadership, the OECD undertook a reform of its statistical work and several new publications and databases were developed, as well as new tools to disseminate statistics to the wide public and to analysts. He is a full professor of economic statistics at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". He has published many articles and books in economics and statistics, and has edited several books. He is a member of several high-level committees of the European Commission and other International Organisations. He also established the Global Project on "Measuring the Progress of Societies", hosted by the OECD and run in collaboration with other international and regional partners. This Project seeks to become the world wide reference point for those who wish to measure, or assess, the progress of their societies. He was member of the Commission on "Measurement of economic performance and social progress" established by French President Sarkozy and chaired by Prof. Stiglitz. He is also chair of the Global Council on "Benchmarking the Progress of Societies" established by the World Economic Forum.

Avant ce poste, il était directeur des statistiques et chef statisticien pour l’Organisation de la coopération économique et du développement (OCDE) depuis Janvier 2001. Sous sa direction, l’OCDE a entrepris une réforme de son travail sur les statistiques et plusieurs nouvelles publications et bases de données ont été développées, ainsi que de nouveaux instruments pour diffuser les statistiques à un large public et aux analystes. Il est professeur à temps plein de statistiques économiques à l’Université de Rome «Tor Vergata». Il a publié beaucoup d’articles et de livres en économie et en statistiques, et a édité plusieurs livres. Il est membre de plusieurs comités de haut-niveau de la Commission européenne et d’autres organisations internationales. Il a également établit le projet global sur «Mesurer le progrès des sociétés», abrité par l’OCDE et exécuté en collaboration avec d’autres partenaires internationaux et régionaux. Ce projet cherche à devenir le point de référence dans le monde pour ceux qui désirent mesurer, ou évaluer le progrès dans leurs sociétés. Il était membre de la commission sur « la mesure de la performance économique et du progrès social » établit par le président Sarkozy et présidée par le professeur Stiglitz. Pali Lehohla is the Statistician-General of South Africa and was appointed in this position since November 2000 following on Mark Orkin, his predecessor. He has 28 years working in field of official statistics. He has conducted four censuses in the jurisdiction of South African territory. Two of these were in the apartheid years under homeland government rule of Bophuthatswana and the other two were post-apartheid. Pali Lehohla led the first post-apartheid census in 1996 and he has subsequently advised on censuses in conflict and post conflict conditions. He is passionate about statistics and its role in peace, democracy and development. Pali Lehohla has led Statistics South Africa from a moribund and obscure organisation into a visible institution that holds its own in South and in world affairs.

Pali Lehohla est le statisticien général de l’Afrique du Sud. Il a succédé à M. Mark Orkin en Novembre 2000. Il a travaillé pendant 28 ans dans le domaine des statistiques officielles. Il a dirigé quatre recensements dans la juridiction du territoire de l’Afrique du Sud. Deux de ces recensements ont été fait au cours des années d’Apartheid sous les règles du gouvernement du Homeland du Bophuthatswana et les autres ont été effectués au cours de la période post-Apartheid. Pali Lehohla a conduit le premier recensement post-Apartheid en 1996 et a ensuite été conseillé pour les recensements dans les conditions de conflit et post-conflit. Il est passionné de statistiques et de leur rôle dans la paix, la démocratie et le développement. Pali Lehohla a aidé à la transformation des « Statistiques en Afrique du Sud », organisation moribonde et obscure en une institution visible qui a aujourd’hui sa place dans le Sud aussi bien qu’au niveau international.

Denise was, until July 2007, the founding Chief Executive of the English Information Centre for Health and Social Care. Formerly she was Director of Statistics at UNESCO. Denise is very active in relevant professional associations: she was President of the Royal Statistical Society from 1999 to 2001, and has just completed a two year term as President of the International Statistical Institute. She is a Trustee of the National Centre for Social Research and a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Science, and has recently been appointed Chair of the newly established European Statistical Advisory Committee.

At SIDA, the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency, since 2000, she has a deepened knowledge and experience in aid effectiveness in practice.

She has worked in the health sector all her career, focusing on strengthening health information and surveillance systems, and statistics for health research, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia. Recognizing the need to gather data from multiple sources in order to monitor development goals, she formed Intersect - an informal group to stimulate the sharing of information across sectors. She led the PARIS21/African Development Bank/Intersect Task Team on Integrating Sectoral Statistics into National Strategies for the development of Statistics.

There she spent eight years working with non-governmental organizations to strengthen democracies in the region. Sanga is currently the Acting Director of the African Centre for Statistics (ACS) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Until end of July 2009, he was Chief of the Statistical Development and Data Management Section of the ACS. In this capacity and formerly, he contributed to the revamping of the statistical function at ECA and most notably the inception of ACS. Before joining the United Nations, he served as Senior Economic Statistician at Statistics Canada occupying several posts in areas such as price statistics, national accounts and household surveys undertaking and analysis. He was also part time Professor of economics, econometrics, and statistics in a number of Canadian universities namely Laval, Sherbrooke and Ottawa. He has substantively published in refereed journals and produced a number of textbooks in economics with special interest in index number theory and practices. An elected member of the International Statistical Institute, he currently serves on the Editorial Board of the African Statistical Journal and the African Statistical Newsletter.

Pronab Sen was appointed as the first Chief Statistician of India in 2007, and serves as the functional and technical head of the Indian national statistical system. Dr Sen also holds the position of Secretary at the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. Prior to his current position, he has taught at Johns Hopkins University and the Delhi School of Economics; conducted research in economics at the Indian Council for Research in International Economic Relations, New Delhi; worked at the World Institute for Development Economics Research, Helsinki; and has held economic advisory positions in the Indian Government. He has wide experience of policy-making, including as principal author and coordinator of the ninth and tenth five-year plans of the Indian Government. Mr Sen holds an MBA, an MA in economics, and a PhD from Johns Hopkins University.

Luay Shabaneh, Ph. D in Applied Social Statistics (1967- his DoB), is the President of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics ( PCBS ). Dr. Shabaneh's story at PCBS is one of the most remarkable success stories; he started his professional career at PCBS in 1994 as a statistician, and then specialized in labour market statistics. Two years after, promoted to be the Director of the first Household Labour Force Survey, then promoted after that to be the Director of Labour Statistics Department. After serving as a regional director in the first population and housing census, Dr.Shabaneh became the Director General of Area Statistics for two years, and then Senior Deputy Assistant of PCBS President for Statistical Affairs, and was selected to be the second PCBS President since March 2005.

He is chairing or a member in several international, regional and local associations and research institutes. His research interests are mainly in Labour market dynamics, woman empowerment and gender equity, organizational development of statistical offices, and statistical monitoring systems. He implemented several consultancy missions for National, international Institutes, and UN agencies. Based on his achievements, he was lately recruited by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to work as chief technical advisor (CTA) for the population census in Iraq.

Luay Shabaneh est titulaire d’un doctorat en statistiques sociales appliquées obtenu en 1967. Il est président de l’office central de statistiques de Palestine (Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) en anglais). L’histoire de Dr. Shabaneh au PCBS est un vrai succès. En effet, il a commencé sa carrière professionnelle au PCBS en 1994 en tant que statisticien, et s’est alors spécialisé dans les statistiques sur le marché du travail. Deux ans plus tard, il a été promu directeur de la première enquête sur les ménages actifs avant d’être nommé directeur du Département des statistiques du travail. Après avoir servi comme directeur régional du premier recensement sur la population et le logement, Dr. Shabaneh est devenu le directeur général des statistiques pendant deux ans, et ensuite l’assistant senior adjoint du président de PCBS pour les affaires statistiques. Depuis mars 2005, il a été sélectionné pour être le second président de PCBS.

Recently she helped develop a whole-of-country tracking tool endorsed by the G8 2009 L’Aquila Summit. Over 2002-2005, Ms. Trzeciak-Duval served in the Office of the Secretary-General of the OECD as Special Advisor and Co-ordinator of Policy Coherence for Development,. In this position, she launched work across the OECD on the developmental impact of policies ranging from agriculture, fisheries and trade, to research, internet, health and migration. From 1997 to 2002, Ms. Trzeciak-Duval headed OECD’s Division for Agricultural Policies in non-OECD Economies, where she launched work to examine issues at the nexus of trade, agriculture and development; helped integrate participation of emerging economies in the OECD’s agricultural policy work; and created the Global Forum on Agriculture.

Mr. Wee has previously worked for the Norwegian Foreign Ministry. Né le 15 octobre 1966 à Tamchakett (Mauritanie), il est titulaire d’un Doctorat en Mathématiques appliquées et d’un Diplôme d’études approfondies en macroéconomie et finance internationale de l’Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis. Il a enseigné à l’Université de Nice avant d’être recruté par l’Université de Nouakchott en 1996. Il a travaillé dans le secteur bancaire mauritanien, dans le secteur public au Ministère de l’économie et à la Présidence de la République, et à la Banque Mondiale.

Abdelilah Zerrou is the chief of population survey and civil registry office at the statistic Directorate within the Planning Agency (Haut Commissariat au Plan (HCP). He conducted the last census in Morocco in 2004. He is actually coordinating a population survey. Before joining this division, he was responsible of the civil registry office service at the HCP during three years. He also conducted the first population survey from 1985 to 1990, before becoming responsible of the analysis of the population survey in 1994. Mr. Zerrou holds a solid training in statistics and demography from the national institute of statistics and applied economy of Rabat, Morocco. He has more than thirty years of experience in the areas of collecting and analysis of population census and housing data, population surveys and civil registry statistics.

Abdelilah Zerrou est chef de la division du recensement de la population et de l’état civil, à la Direction de la Statistique relevant du Haut Commissariat au Plan (HCP). A ce titre, il est à la tête de la structure qui a réalisé le dernier recensement marocain en 2004. Il conduit actuellement une enquête démographique d’envergure. Avant de se charger de cette division, il était responsable du service de l’état civil au HCP pendant trois ans. Il a également conduit la première enquête démographique de 1985 à 1990, date à laquelle il s’est vu confier la tâche de responsable des travaux d’exploitation du recensement de la population marocain de 1994. M. Zerrou détient une solide formation en statistiques et en démographie à l’institut national de statistique et d’économie appliquée de Rabat et a plus de trente ans d’expérience dans le domaine de la collecte et de l’analyse des données des recensements de la population et de l’habitat , des enquêtes démographiques et des statistiques de l’état civil.
