Parent Engagement Coordinator Job Description: A Parent Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the development and cultivation of parent leaders to promote positive changes at the local and state level education systems through the creation of neighborhood leadership teams.

Essential Functions Include: • Identify, train and develop parents in local public schools to be leaders in their

neighborhoods, and to mobilize parent participation in Speak UP advocacy and political campaigns.

• Build powerful parent-driven neighborhood teams that drive political advocacy work, connect with parents across other neighborhoods in LAUSD and develop parents into a powerful voice in LAUSD and in Sacramento.

• Help plan workshops and trainings to grow parents in their advocacy, organizing, and leadership skills.

• Prepare parent leaders to hold meetings with elected officials and other decision makers, participate in press events, and public actions between parents and public officials, including local school board members and decision-makers, state legislators and state officials.

• Help build social media campaigns with authentic parent stories. • Manage and maintain a timely and comprehensive database of current and potential parents

who can be called on for political action and advocacy.

Required Personal Qualifications: • A belief that all children have a right to excellent, equitable public education • Strong commitment to social and educational justice • Ability to work well within a team, maintain flexibility with last-minute adjustments, keep a

positive attitude in challenging situations, and maintain a sense of humor • Ability to create goal-oriented action plans, meet deadlines, and develop and analyze metrics

to track progress towards goals

Preferred Experience: • 2-5 years of professional work experience • Bachelor's degree preferred • Prior experience in community, school advocacy or political organizing • Comfort with multiple modes of effective communication, including social and on-line media

tools • Project management and experience working on education advocacy a strong plus

Organizational Relationships: Reports to the Director of Parent Engagement and Community Partnerships. Will work collaboratively with internal team members and external project partners.

Primary Location: This position is based in Los Angeles, California

Compensation: Based on experience and skills. Flexible hours.
