A TECHHHNNICAAL EEVVENNTT

FOR SEEENNIORR PPROOFEESSSIOONNALLS

Dear Colleagues,

On 16-18 October 2012, Moscow will host the 4th SPE Russian Oil and Gas

Exploration and Production Technical Conference and Exhibition (ROG) - a key

international scientific and technical forum in Russia.

Since ROG 2010 the industry has seen an increase in the development of new oil

and gas fields with complex geological structures and low reservoir quality located

in adverse climatic conditions. Exploration and development of these fields require

new methods in order to tap these reserves. Today, Russian and international

oil and gas producers continue to work together, integrating their knowledge

and technology to ensure efficient management of domestic and global oil and gas

resources.

The agenda of the Russian biennual conference traditionally covers all major issues

in the area of hydrocarbon exploration and production. This includes hydrodynamic

fundamentals and petrophysics, new methods and technology for well drilling

and survey, prospecting, exploration, development of oil and gas fields, as well

as enhanced hydrocarbon recovery. There will also be a focus on environmental

protection and safety in sophisticated process operations. The conference aims

to present - the best global practices and innovations for enhanced petroleum

exploration at greater depths, drilling and increased well production, comprehensive

approaches to development of oil gas and condensate fields and improved oil and

condensate recovery.

Within the framework of the conference, this event provides attendees with the

opportunity to network with leading specialists, learn from the experiences of others

in improving operational efficiency of oil and gas fields, discuss topical issues facing

national and world science and practice, as well as gaining in-depth evaluations and

first-hand experience from some of the leading companies in the industry on the

exhibition floor.

The Programme Committee received over 600 high quality abstracts of which

205 have been selected to form the 2012 technical programme which consists

of daily technical, Knowledge sharing presentations and Poster sessions. Plenary

sessions will feature executives from large domestic and international companies

presenting overviews and forecasts of the developments in the oil and gas industry,

the role of new technologies as well as personal experiences with service companies.

Distinctively, many of the papers featured at ROG are written and presented by

specialists from producer companies.

We would like to invite you and your colleagues to register for ROG 2012.

Traditionally, students and teachers from Russian oil and gas universities can attend

for free, which, this year, has added benefits as the event will also be holding

a student paper contest and a young professional’s workshop. The exhibition will

include a dedicated “Knowledge and Science Zone” featuring some of the leading

Russian oil and gas universities and a “Technology Incubator“, which will provide

a site for young innovative companies.

PRESENTATION OVERVIEWS

Problems of Reliable Assessment of Oil and Gas Initially

in Place and Recoverable Oil and Gas Reserves at

Largest Russian Fields

Mikhail Yakovlevich Zykin, Chief Geologist of

FBU GKZ (Federal Budgetary Institution “State

Commission on Mineral Reserves“)

The world’s largest gas fields, each with initial

gas reserves of more than 1 trillion m3, are

located in the north of the Tyumen Region. Individual fields

(Medvezhiye, Urengoyskoye, Yamburgskoye) have been in

operation for a long time and fully drilled with production

wells. The geological structure of these fields and reservoir

properties (porosity and permeability) of their Cenomanian

pay zones have been studied in great detail. At the same

time, there are difficulties with amended estimate of gas

reserves in the fields. They are connected with variations of

reservoir properties in peripheral areas of reservoirs, where

there are only individual exploration and observation wells.

When gas reserves are calculated based on historical

production data, it is difficult to reliably estimate volumes of

water intruded into reservoirs.

Today, reliability of estimates of gas volumes in place for the

largest undeveloped fields is somewhat less for a number of

reasons. First, individual areas of fields such as the

Krusenstern and Kharasaveyskoye are located within the shelf.

In addition, seismic operations have been carried out recently

in these areas, and exploratory wells shall be drilled and

tested in order to assess reliability of such operations.

A serious problem is a reliable estimation of oil reserves in

deposits of the Bazhenov formation. Problems with

calculation of hydrocarbon reserves in Bazhenov formation

pay zones are associated with limited knowledge and

justification of the reservoir model and variables used to

estimate reserves.

The presentation will contain the analysis of existing methods

for determining reservoir properties of oil saturated rocks

and the results of their use for state expert evaluation of

reserves.

“Total depth” solutions for safe and quality borehole

drilling and casing – systems for casing running and

drilling

Tracy Cummins, Director of Global Total

Depth Services, Weatherford International

This presentation will familiarise you with the

waste Weatherford experienced offshore and

onshore during integrated approaches in

delivering high integrity casing and liner strings to the

bottom.

Through early collaboration and planning between the

operator and provider, mitigating drilling hazards, optimising

well architecture and drilling the un-drillable can be achieved.

The results provide the operator with improved wellbore

integrity, increased efficiency, reduces the overall cost of

drilling and allows the operator to drill more wells.

Total technologies include: a Casing Running and Drilling

Tool, Rotating Cement Head, Drilling Casing Bits, Casing and

Liner Reaming Shoes, Drillable Liners and Cementing

Products. The combination of these technologies with well

engineering a field service expertise offer an array of

solutions that include Drilling and Reaming with Casing,

Drilling and Reaming with Liner and Rotating while

Cementing. International and Russian Case Histories of the

Total Depth Approach will be provided that demonstrate the

ability of achieving TD in complex environments with cost

savings and improved safety.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS:

It’s always a pleasure to come to an SPE conference. I myself have been a member

of SPE for almost 15 years. One of the best things about coming to an SPE event is

the ability to share relevant information.

Emerson Milenski, TNK-BP

The opportunity for people to get together and discuss all of the new advances, is

something that we all look forward to. I’ve met many new clients.

Steve Segota, Halliburton

I believe that one of the objectives of this type of event is to have exchanges

between the former Western world and the Russian world in both directions. I

believe that the Russian Oil and Gas industry will benefit from having access to

Western technology.

Alain Labastie, Former SPE President
