CFSNet

The CFSNet initiative is designed to provide an infrastructure supporting Web-based access, analysis, synthesis, reporting and distribution of Canadian Forest Service information holdings on a distributed network of servers.

What is SDI In-A-Box

SDI In-A-Box is an initiative designed to provide an infrastructure supporting

Web-based access, analysis, synthesis, reporting and distribution of

information holdings on a distributed network of servers.

The infrastructure adheres to the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure

(CGDI) initiative and international standards such as Open GeoSpatial

Consortium (OGC) and World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

SDI In-A-Box consists of a carefully configured footprint that harnesses the

power of open source software to aid in the publishing, sharing, and analysis of

Information holdings from node to node.

What is SDI In-A-Box cont…

SDI In-A-Box encompasses a set of business practices, the most important of

which include:

– Adherence to international standards

– Provision of robust security

– Minimal impact on existing business practices

– Provision of custodial recognition

– Open source and free distribution of code/software

Who is using SDI In-A-Box

The aim of [SDI] In A Box is to assist in deployment a national information infrastructureto leverage and safeguard information assets of [SDI] In A Box partners in supportof science and policy mandate including sustainable forest management.

SDI In-A-Box is being used in a production environment at the following locations:

– Atlantic Forestry Centre (Fredericton) – Corner Brook Office (Corner Brook) – Laurentian Forestry Centre (Sainte-Foy) – Great lakes Forestry Centre (Sault Ste. Marie) – Northern forestry Centre (Edmonton) – Pacific Forestry Centre (Victoria) – Headquarters (Ottawa)– Nova Scotia Provincial Government– Prince Edward Island Provincial Government– Newfoundland provincial Government

DACS In Brief

DACS is a general purpose, distributed system that combines SingleSign-on capability and access control for web based resources.

- Any static or computational resource available through a Web server using HTTPS:

web page, file upload/download, image etc…

-Integrated with the Apache Web server (mod_auth_dacs)

-One configuration file to configure DACS environment

-Distributed control for admission to web services

-Each entity is responsible for safe-guarding theirresources.
