PRE-RACE DETAILS

Follow these Pre-Race instructions to ensure quick registration on race day.· Visit the San Luis Obispo Ultra, Beast, Super & Trail Event Page on our website.· Scroll down and click on the START TIME tab, they will be posted no later than Wednesday, March 4th.· Don't forget to print and bring your registration barcode and photo identification to pick up your packet on race day. Age Group competitors follow the same rules and standards as Elite racers, including being officiated and video recorded. Read up on the rules now and get ready to race.

HOW TO GET HERE

STEP 1: Proceed to Registration Tent area and locate a Spartan Volunteer.

STEP 2: Present your photo identification and registration barcode to the Volunteer. Receive your packet. Your packet will include:· Spartan Headband with Bib Number· Wristband with Start Time· Timing Chip and Wristband· Free Drink Wristband· 2019 Merchandise discount coupons

STEP 3: Once you have your race packet and timing chip, proceed to the Festival Area.

STEP 4: Visit the Festival Area where you will find Spartan-approved sponsors/vendors sampling and selling product, as well as our official merchandise tent.

STEP 5: Check your bag at On-Site Bag Check. Please note:· Bags will only be returned to the individuals whose name and number match up.· Bag Check opens at 5:00am on Saturday and 8:00am on Sunday. Bag Check closes when the last racer picks up their bags.

VENUE & COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Hundreds of sprawling acres await you at Santa Margarita Ranch, our venue in the heart of SLO CAL. You’ll dash past vineyards and epic open landscapes, all while surrounded by the towering Los Padres National Forest. Whether you run an Ultra, Beast, Super or Trail race, you’re in for an unforgettable experience. Special Gear: Racers should plan to bring appropriate fuel for their needs. Nutrition will be available on course. Hydration packs (or water containers of some variety) are strongly suggested for all racers. Please note that shoes with spikes are not allowed. AID STATIONS: At each stop you will be able to drink as much water as you want, however we ask that you only take one (1) cup.

· ULTRA: In addition to the aid stations on the Beast, there will be two (2) aid stations on the Ultra spur loop.· BEAST: There will be eleven (11) aid stations on course, including 2 hydration pack refill stations. You will also be able to fill up your pack at the Start Line.· SUPER: There will be four (4) aid stations on course. No hydration pack refill stations are available on the Super, however, you will be able to fill up your pack at the Start Line.· TRAIL 10K: There will be two (2) aid stations on course. No hydration pack refill stations are available on the 10k, however, you will be able to fill up your pack at the Start Line.· TRAIL HALF MARATHON: There will be 5 (5) aid stations on course, including 1 hydration pack refill station. You will also be able to fill up your pack at the Start Line.

ON-COURSE HYDRATION TIPS:· Make sure to fill your pack up prior to the race. You can purchase hydration packs at the merchandise tent on race day.· Make sure you carry enough water to be able to keep yourself hydrated between stations.· Make sure to stop at every aid station to get water, use your pack in between.· We highly suggest carrying some type of electrolyte drink in addition to water.· Make sure to properly hydrate in the week leading up to the event.

ULTRA INFORMATION

Mandatory Packet Pickup: There will be a MANDATORY pre-race packet pickup on Friday, March 13th from 2pm-6pm at the Registration Tents onsite. This will also be an opportunity to ask our staff any final questions before undertaking one of the toughest Spartan races.

Mandatory Gear: One working headlamp. See cutoffs for additional information. You can purchase headlamps at the merchandise tent on race day.

Recommended Gear: Extra headlamp batteries, a means of carrying at least 32oz of water with additional fluids staged in gear drop bin, electrolytes, calorie source, appropriate gear given the weather, and first aid material.

Gear Drop: Racers may drop Gear Bins on Friday March 13th between 2:00pm - 6:00pm or on Saturday from 5:00am - 6:00am. Only 1 container per racer will be allowed, and the bin may be no larger than 7.5 gallons. Racers will only be able to access gear in between laps 1 and 2, and then again after they finish. They need to keep all of their items in the transition area and in the specified container. Each lap must be completed with everything that a racer takes out of the gear drop area including trash. NO OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE WILL BE ALLOWED ON COURSE OR IN THE TRANSITION AREA AND NO ADDITIONAL ITEMS MAY BE ADDED TO THE GEAR DROP ONCE THE RACE BEGINS. Anyone who does not want to store valuables in the Gear Drop area will be allowed to check items at the Bag Check area however racers will NOT be allowed to access these items until after they finish or until DNF.

- RIGHT AFTER YOKOHAMA TIRE FLIP of your FIRST LAP, Ultra racers finishing their first lap will be directed to the ULTRA GEAR DROP area (look for signs and/or volunteers signals). Ultra racers will NOT CROSS THE FINISH on their first lap

- Ultra racers must begin their second lap no later than 2pm. Racers will leave the gear drop area and look for signs and/or volunteer signals to re-enter the course. DO NOT CROSS THE START LINE TO START YOUR SECOND LAP. Racers that do not attempt to complete a second lap will have their timing chip removed in the gear drop area. If racers do not have their timing chip, they must proceed to the results tent to notify timing officials they will be starting the second lap. IF RACERS ARE NOT GOING TO ATTEMPT A SECOND LAP, please let the timing team know, and remove your gear from the gear drop.

- Ultra racers that only complete one lap will be considered a DNF and WILL NOT be considered a Beast finisher. It’s all or nothing.

- NOTE: The ULTRA ONLY loop will need to be completed on your first lap ONLY. When starting your second lap, after completing Hercules Hoist and before attempting A-Frame Cargo, you will turn left to approach the start area to get back out on course.

EQUIPMENT & CLOTHING· All participants are encouraged to bring a change of clothes, shoes, and a plastic bag for wet and muddy items.· Shoes with spikes are not allowed. · Our official merchandise tent will open at the same time as the festival area. Forget your racing shoes, change of clothes, spare socks? We can help.

COURSE CUTOFFS

COURSE CLOSING: Ultra, Beast, & Super participants must be at the finish line by 9:00pm. Any racers remaining on the course at 9:00pm will be removed from the course for their own safety and will be considered a DNF (Did Not Finish). This means you will not receive a finishing time, medal, or shirt. The race will not count towards your trifecta and you will not get a refund or a future race credit. Additional course cutoffs will be announced prior to Race Day and Spartan reserves the right to modify, change cutoffs, and remove racers for health and safety issues or unforeseen events. · 3:30pm: Any ULTRA or BEAST racer on the course must have a working headlamp on them. If you do not have a headlamp, you risk being pulled from the course. Any ULTRA racer who has not passed 8’ Wall(18mi) by this time will be removed.· 5:00pm: Any ULTRA racer who hasn’t passed aid station #12(23mi) by this time will be removed from course.5:30pm: Any BEAST racer who has not passed aid station #9 by this time will be removed from course.· 9:00pm: Course closed. Any racers who haven’t finished by this time will be pulled from course.

INCLEMENT WEATHERIn the event of inclement weather such as lightning, tornadoes, hurricanes, and the like, Spartan Race reserves the right to eliminate obstacles, select portions of the course or cancel the event in order to ensure the safety of racers, volunteers, and staff. As always, weather can be unpredictable. Please come prepared for chilly morning and evening temps and possible rainstorms.

KIDS AWARDS CEREMONY: The top three boys and girls from the Kids Competitive categories will be recognized with awards.

ELITE AWARDS CEREMONY: The top three males and females Elite competitors will be awarded with a Spartan Delta on the podium, in addition to earning their prize money and a Free Race code. AGE GROUP AWARDS CEREMONY: All 10 Age Groups will be recognized on the podium and awards given for the top 3 males and females from each Age Group.

PHOTOSPhotos will be posted no later than the Friday after the event. Head to our Results page to find your photos. Don’t forget to wear your headbands! The number on the front of the headband is used for identification, and properly wearing your headband increases the number of tagged photos you’ll receive back.

KIDS RACE· There are three Kid’s Race distances available to race at the event.

· 2 Mile, 1 Mile and ½ Mile· Please note, distances are determined by age. Make sure to register for the proper age group.

· Each Kid’s Race Finisher will receive a Finisher’s Medal and Finisher T-shirt.· Each family will receive two (2) free Festival Passes at registration, included in your purchase.· Timing is now available for all outdoor Kids Races (not including Stadion or standalone Kids events). This provides better photo tagging and overall experience. Kids Race FAQ here. KID’S REGISTRATION: Registration for the Spartan Kids Race will be at the Kid’s Registration tent.
