“I draw inspiration from the simplest of things to create innovative, emotive designs

that capture and engage.”

Spark is all about the energy that ignites the creative process.

Welcome to Simplicity. We invite you to simplify…

It is the journal of a quietly understated, yet meaningful lifestyle not yet

harnessed and an inner beauty and contentment not yet realized. It is a

celebration not just of the things that touches us unexpectedly, but of the

calming and natural process that sets inspirations soaring and allows them to

form into clean, crisp ideas. In this issue, we explore the spark that improves

clarity and ultimately permits us to eliminate the unnecessary. Simplicity. It is

defined as the state of being simple, uncomplicated or uncompounded, yet is

the source of inspiration for many.

Organize:“Organization makes a system of many appear fewer.”

– John Maeda, The Laws of Simplicity: Design, Technology, Business, Life

A gold-leaf finish can add a decorative and breathtaking touch to almost any substrate

including wood, leather, metal, plastic or glass. Mark David’s expertise and capabilities

in the delicate process of gold and silver gilding is superb. We have manufactured

countless gilded pieces throughout the years, with an entire silver-leaf desk (see inside

back cover) for Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto being our latest project.

BOYARD BENCH

The burnished steel base of this bench is sculptural, angular and abrupt.

This structure is juxtaposed with a soft, hand-woven rush

to create an inviting and tactile bench.

Differences:“Simplicity and complexity need each other.” – John Maeda, The Laws of Simplicity: Design, Technology, Business, Life

RÉ LOUNGE CHAIR A contemporary lounge base supports the familiar form of a Windsor chair’s spindled

back, applying depth and character to a restrained form.

The One:“Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious and adding the meaningful.”

– John Maeda, The Laws of Simplicity: Design, Technology, Business, Life

Graphic designer and scientist John Maeda published his Laws of Simplicity

based on a research project. His book outlines ways for people to simplify their lives

in the face of growing complexity. These principles have inspired this refined,

sophisticated collection. Here we show that Simplicity is finding contentment

and beauty through the elimination of the unnecessary.
