i The Chinese University of Hong Kong Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages 3rdTerm 2013-2014 Course code & title: SPANISH LANGUAGE: INTERMEDIATE SPAN3050 A,B,C Language of instruction: Spanish /English Units: 6 Course description: This is the third and the fourth of a 6term language course and it aims at providing training in spoken and written Spanish, oral practice through class interaction and essential grammatical structures. It goes one step deeper into the introduction of the Spanish speaking countries’ society and culture. Prerequisite: SPAN 1001 or equivalent competence. Learning outcomes: By the end of the course, students should: 1. have reviewed the previously studied grammar points and expanded the Spanish morphology and syntax and reviewed and fixed already learnt basic grammar patterns. 2. have mastered the Spanish sounds and confidently pronounce them 3. have acquired a core active vocabulary of Spanish of over 700 words 4. be able to interactively communicate in a wide number of social situations with the appropriate awareness of the pragmatic rules involved be able to write compositions in Spanish using past, present and future tense in different registers and styles Course Content: The course will cover 6 lessons (Nos vemos 1 3 chapters/ Nos vemos 2 3 chapters) Chapter Speech acts Grammar and vocabulary Lección 9 (NOS VEMOS 1) Caminando (I am walking) Talking about travels.
