Spaghetti and Tomato
• We will learn to cook pasta correctly and identify when it is ready.
• We will learn to make a simple tomato sauce which will help us to obtain our 5 a day.
• We shall learn how to safely and correctly control the heat of the cooker top.
Spaghetti and Tomato
• Ingredients
• 2 x10 ml spoon olive oil• Half an onion, sliced• Half a clove of garlic, thinly sliced• 300g canned tomatoes• 1 x 10 ml spoon tomato puree• 1 x 2.5 ml spoon mixed herbs• Salt and pepper
• 150g spaghetti or other pasta
Method Step One
• Collect all of the ingredients you need for the tomato sauce.
• That is the onion, garlic, tomatoes, tomato puree, herbs and salt and pepper.
• You should have seven items.
Method Step Two
• Remove the papery skin from the onion and slice thinly.
• Remove the papery skin from the garlic and slice thinly.
Method Step Three
• Heat the oil in a large saucepan with a little of the onion until it begins to sizzle.
• Add the remaining onion then the garlic and fry on a gentle heat until soft.
Method Step Four
• Stir in the tomatoes, tomato puree, herbs and seasoning. (4 things)
• Bring to the boil, then lower the heat, cover the pan and simmer the sauce for 20 minutes.
Method Step Five
• Place a pan half filled with cold water on a back ring of the cooker on FULL power.
• Place 1.25 mls of salt in the water then cover the pan with a lid.
Method Step Six
• When the water is boiling vigorously, carefully add the pasta and cook with the lid OFF the pan for 10 – 15 minutes.
Method Step Seven
• Drain the pasta through a colander, placed safely in the sink.
• Place the pasta in the pan with the tomato sauce and mix well.
